I don't claim to be the greatest writer, hehe, and I know I don't compare to the others here. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15" /> I am working on a story for one of my characters, as she has gotten quite boring to roleplay, since there is nothing going on with her but the normal every day thing. So I decided I'd weave her story more into my main character's, Argul [I might post his story later on. Are we allowed to have multiple threads for multiple stories?]. Anyway, enjoy. I'll be updating this as I write it.And I don't follow the lore closely, out of personal preference.100 plat to who guesses what the title is from till I think of a better one, haha!EDIT: I re-did some of this, the way it was written, due to comments in how it was hard to read being all jumbled. I hope this is a bit better!

EDIT: Okay, finally done! Hope you guys enjoy.NOTES:

Argul, Esper, and Numel are my own characters. Udaox is my best friend in real life, so that is how he got weaved into this story, being mentioned as Argul's best friend. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15" /> Silwene the dragon was named after a character also owned by Udaox (he gave me the dragon in game for my birthday, ooc, and I named it after Silwene, who was then Slimey after server transfers, and now is Slxmxy on Butcherblock).

Argul is roleplayed on the Antonia Bayle (used to be Lucan D'lere, but transferred, which is the reason for his final actions, for the transition) server. She sat on the small gate surrounding the patio of Argul's estate, the guard behind her glancing at her every so often, giving her odd looks. She paid no mind, she was waiting, rain or shine. She wondered why Argul would want her to meet him, he is often so busy. She sighed softly, and looked up at the dark sky. Argul was a bit below, walking down the street, almost to the steps that rose to the level of the housing. He sighed heavily, not wanting to do this, but he figured he must, it was time. His feet felt heavy as he climbed the steps, and he kept his head down. Moments later, visible to Esper, she raised an eyebrow, thinking, 'Why does he look so upset?' He walked over to her, standing a few feet back. He looked up, and smiled a little. "How are you?" His icy hair was down covering his eyes partially, and he shook his head a little so it wouldn't stick to his skin. She smiled. "I am alright, you?" He shrugged. "Should we go inside?", she asked. He shook his head. She shrugged. "Alright." Argul's smile turned into a frown, and he sighed softly. "Esper I have to tell you something." "Yeah, sure, anything." He looked down, and bit his lip. "You are following me around, aren't you?" He looked up at her. She blushed, and frowned. "Yes.. Argul I am sorry, I just-" Argul shook his head and she stopped in mid-sentence. "I understand. Esper.." he narrowed his eyes. She looked up at him, on the verge of tears. He leaned in close to her, and opened his mouth a little, bearing fangs, and inch long. Her lips parted a little, and she stared at them. She blinked a few times, understanding completely now. All of the clues made sense, and everything was starting to fit together. Somborn.. village of vampires. Argul disappearing for weeks at a time. The rumors. He leaned back, and shifted his weight to one leg. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, but you must understand.. you're so young, you have so much already going on." He frowned, feeling guilty. She shook her head. "Its alright Argul." she tried to smile, with little success. He looked down, and muttered, "I think.. I think he is dead.." She gasped is disbelief. "Argul.." she frowned, feeling deep sympathy. "Why do you think so? What happened?" Argul tried his best to hold back the tears. "He disappeared, I have no idea where he is.. he wouldn't hide from me...." Esper stood up, and walked towards him. "I'm sorry.." she whispered. He shook his head. "Its alright." He looked back up at her. "I have decided to go through the change." "What do you mean.. change..?" "I am not a complete vampire, having never fed.. I will die if I don't do something, Esper." His thoughts trailed back to those of meeting with Maelthra, the shaman. "I can't die. I can't leave you behind, Udaox, my friends.. if this is what it takes to live, this is what I must do. He was going to be my donor for my cure.. but.." his voice trailed off. "Argul you can't...." He narrowed his eyes. "Esper I must. This is the only way." Esper crossed her arms. "Fine. You need someone to bite.. let it be me." She stared up at him. "Esper don't be ridiculous. I could never do that." Esper glared. "Argul I am willing, if this will save your life, this is the least I can do. After all you've done for me? Just let me do this!" Argul swallowed hard feeling the irritation rise within him, he couldn't lose control.. his hunger was growing by the day, and if he lost control the storms would continue, growing more violent, following him around like a pet. He couldn't destroy himself in such a manner, he couldn't destroy others. "No." She turned her back to him. "Argul.." "I'm sorry Esper.." he reached out to touch her arm, but she turned back around, and looked up at him, tears in her eyes. "Will you become a monster?" "I don't know Esper." The tears fell down her cheeks and Argul smiled a little. "I promise it will be okay." He wiped the tears from her cheek with a hand. Her face remained expressionless, and she moved closer to him, putting her arms around him, pulling him into a hug. Argul bit his lip nervously. He let his temperature drop to that of a vampire's, ice cold. His eyes lost color, and turned completely white. His simulated breathing slowed, and came to a stop. He wrapped his arms around her, and hugged her tightly. He kissed the top of her head lightly, running his fingers through her hair to sooth her, muttering over and over again, "It will be okay, it will be okay." After a few minutes, she calmed down. She pulled back a little, her arms still around his waist. She looked up at him, eyes blood-shot from crying so heavily. He didn't smile, but looked back down at her. She looked at his eyes curiously, and traced the bones showing more and more everyday on his face. She lifted a hand, placing it on his cheek, wandering to his hair, and to the back of his head. She played with his hair for a few moments, and leaned up, and kissed him on the lips. Argul stared straight ahead, in shock. He sighed, and closed them slowly, kissing her back. She broke it off a few minutes later, and turned her back to him once again. "Esper.." he whispered, instantly feeling guilty. He somehow knew that kiss was of no romantic desire, but more of just a longing for affection, some sort of touch, to something so untouchable. He didn't quite understand it, as he didn't quite understand most feelings of the people around him, ever. His thoughts lingered on Numel, his brother, and the camp they were both raised in, and how emotionless they all were. Powerful. Lifeless. Vampires. Esper shook her head, staring at the ground. She snapped her fingers, and disappeared.

My Chemical Romance. Story's pretty good, but ya need to do paragraph breaks for each time the person speaking changes. Especially if you aren't always going to put "Blah blah blah," Argul said. "Blah blah blah," Esper replied. Also, pace yourself. You got no limits on what you can write. It almost felt like you were afraid to go into as much detail as you wanted and crammed a bit at times. Let it flow out the way it is in your mind. Pick it out of yer brain and write the feelings on paper (or screen, however you do it).

Chapter Two - The Feeding
Argul sighed, and walked to his front door. He gave a short nod to his guard, and unlocked the door and stepped inside. It was freezing, but he couldn't tell the difference. He looked around, thinking for a moment on what else he should buy to decorate the home with, then headed for the stairs to the basement. He walked at a normal pace, lighting the candles in the doorway with tiny lightning bolts. He looked around the basement room, a bar in the works, and thought more about decorations. He walked across the room, careful not to bump into chairs scattered around the room, and furniture he hadn't yet placed. He made a sharp left turn, the last room in the house, and the best hidden. His eyes followed the vertical line of several locks, magical and by key, holding the door shut. He smiled to himself, sending more small lightning bolts from the tip of his finger, into five of the ten locks. The other five, he unlocked with several keys he pulled from his belt. "Silwene!!" Argul grinned, and pulled hard on the door, and a small pink and blue figure slammed him into the wall behind him, licking his face. "Down, down!" Argul laughed, as the dragon continued to lick his face, sniffing his pockets. Silwene stepped back a little, and did a hand stand, trying to impress Argul. Argul clapped, smiling. "Good girl, want a treat?" Argul smiled, and pointed at his own pocket, teasingly. Silwene nodded violently, and Argul wondered if she did it any harder if her head would fly right off. Silwene launched herself for him, licking his face once more, shooting sparks into the air. "Hey now, none of that.. don't need you to try and set my hair on fire again." Argul sighed dramatically, and laughed. He pulled some hyena jerky out of his pocket, and fed it to the dragon, smiling. He relaxed a bit, leaning against the wall, his thoughts running over everything. He closed his eyes, and relived the memories that haunted him everyday. "Argul!!" Argul looked up from a picture he was working on, his legs crossed as he perched himself on a boulder. "Yeah, what?" He smiled at Numel. "Come on, training begins in five minutes, dad's going to kill us if we're late!!" Argul groaned. "Fine, fine.. let me hide this first." Numel nodded, understanding. Argul tucked the papers and the pencils in a little hole underneath the rock. He stood up, and stretched, his bare chest glistening in the bright sun. He rubbed his arms absently. "Don't you ever get tired of the mountains?", he said to Numel. "Eh, well.. I don't know. I suppose. I wonder what its like beyond them, yes." Numel paused for a minute, and looked around. "Come on, lets go." "Son! Watch Argul, look at how much he is progressing, and he is two years younger!" Numel frowned at his father's comment, and watched Argul with envy. Argul arched his back, and pulled the swords out of the ground. He got into an offensive stance, and smiled at his opponent, showing his long canines as if to taunt them. The man across from him, a large burly fellow, growled, and held his tower shield and his large sword. "Come on pretty boy!!" He snarled, and Argul just continued to smile with a natural charm. Numel continued to frown, playing over what Argul did last time he fought him. Numel frowned, and replayed his own thoughts, 'why isn't he coming, why isn't he trying to hit me?' Argul stood there and smiled, not moving a muscle. Numel figured, if he isn't going to move, then I will. He charged for him, and soon as he was close enough, Argul was gone. 'What!? Where!?' His question was answered a split second later when he felt his back split open, Argul had cut his back, in the shape of an X. He fell to the floor, and their father cheered. Numel touched his shoulder, feeling the top of one of the scars, and watched as the man before Argul fell. Numel sighed, and thought, 'One day, I will prove them all wrong...' A few years passed, and the two were teenagers (if you count in human years, Numel, 16, Argul, 14). They were the same height, and were complete opposites in appearance, they looked like twins, in a strange way. Argul's icy blue hair was down to his shoulders now, so he kept it up with a tie. Numel preferred his long violet hair down, as it hid his usual irritated expression. Numel's skin had grown to a dark brown, and Argul's stayed fair. The days were long gone since they had shared secrets, and played games in the mountains. Numel was becoming more and more distant from everyone, filled with jealousy and rage. The night had fallen, and Argul was a bit away from the camp he lived in. He could see the camp fires, and the tiny outlines of the people, from the high place in the mountains where he now stood. He frowned slightly, thinking of how great things used to be with his brother. He sighed, and continued to look at the camp. He thought about how forbidden it was, what he was practicing. 'I don't care,' he thought. 'One day, I will prove them all wrong...' He closed his eyes to concentrate, and then green light began to dance around his feet. He concentrated harder, and the light rose around his body, circling him. Numel was walking through the mountains, looking down at the camp as well. He just happened to look up at the right time, and saw the light. 'Magic! Ahh, telling my father about this will make him proud, if I bring him back a user of magic!' He sprinted as fast as he could up the mountains, getting behind the glowing figure. The light was almost blinding, he couldn't make out features. He stepped on a twig, and it snapped, causing the figure to turn around, all the light gone. "Argul!!" Numel yelled, more with happiness then anything. Argul frowned, and reflectively raised his fists his defense. "Please Numel, don't, please don't tell them.. you know they will kill me, Numel, please!" Numel smirked, and seemed to glide down the mountain. Argul chased after him, trying to catch up, his thoughts taken over by that of death. "Numel, please!!" Numel ran up to his father, and said a few things Argul couldn't hear from where he was standing. His father went into an uproar, and the entire camp turned and looked at him, standing here, on a boulder. Against them all. Argul's eyes filled with tears, his brother betrayed him. He loved Numel more then anything, even if they had grown distant. He would do anything for his brother, even die for him.. He thought, assuring himself it were true, 'I guess this is what I will have to do. Die for him, he deserves the fame in my father's eyes more then I.' Argul didn't struggle when his father and another large man dragged him through the mountains, the entire camp following, with torches, ready to skin him alive if he dared try to escape. They formed a circle, and the men threw Argul to the ground. His body was covered with cuts and bruises, and for the first time in his life he felt weak. So very weak. He looked up, through his swollen eyes at Numel, who stood there, smiling, arms crossed. "Numel, come here my boy!" Their father beckoned him, a wide smile on his face. He handed him a whip, and instructed him to lash Argul multiple times until he plead for mercy. Argul's tears blinded him, as Numel cracked the whip in the air, and began striking him. He could feel his skin splitting open on his back, and Numel thought, 'This is what you did to me, you [I cannot control my vocabulary].' Argul collapsed completely to the ground, struggling just to stay awake. Numel continued to hit him, 'I will reign in your victory, you will see.' The entire scene created a lot of noise, and they guess thats what woke the Lady herself. She seemed to float towards the large group of men, all surrounding Argul and Numel. She wore long black robes, her hood up. He held up one ghostly white hand, and muttered, "Stop." Numel spun around, and dropped the whip. Argul turned his head a little, and saw her. After all the events of the night, this was his pure moment of fear. She let down her hood, revealing a beautiful, slender white face. Her black eyes went from Numel, to Argul. She moved her hand a little to the left, requesting Numel move out of the way. Numel stepped aside, in horror. All of the men surrounded them, completely silent. She swooped down, and whispered into Argul's ear, "Your mother is not angry with you." The full moon came out from the clouds, and every one of the men slowly transformed into dark, disgusting creatures. The woman stood up, and turned around. "My children.." she smiled. She turned to look at Numel who seemed unchanged. She looked down at Argul, and smiled. As she rose her hands, he rose. "Argul, please remember what you are." And with those words, dark markings covered his arms, and part of his face. They glowed gold, as he floated in the air. "You and Numel.. you two are my most beautiful children. You two were so perfectly created, no one will ever know what you truly are. Unlike these disgusting beasts." The men said nothing, they respected her above all. As if on cue, all the men turned, and headed back to the camp. Once out of sight, the Lady let Argul slowly meet the floor, markings still glowing. "Numel." Numel looked at her, in fear, and stood frozen. She walked gracefully towards him, and her lips curved into a smile. "You are so unlike the others..." She traced the bones on his face with a finger, and smiled maliciously. She ran her fingers through his hair, and narrowed her eyes. "You wish to become like your mother?" Numel nodded roughly, still stricken with fear. Their mother's smile widened, and she lowered the hood, and long blonde hair fell down her back. She tilted Numel's head to the side with a gentle touch of her hand, and opened her mouth, lowering her head to his neck.. Numel shook with fear. "Numel..." Argul choked. "Don't become a monster.. don't feed...." Their mother sank her fangs into Numel's neck, and his eyes shot open, slowly turning black. His body lay limp for a moment in his mother's grasp, and she pulled back, and shook him. He steadied himself, and looked up at the moon, running his tongue over his fangs. Power slipped over him, he felt more complete then ever before, but at the same time, he felt extremely hungry. He needed to feed now more then ever. "Come show your mother what you've learned." Numel grinned, delighted, and walked towards her. He embraced her gently, and she tilted her head back a little. Argul watched in horror, and disgust. Numel opened his mouth, and mercilessly, dug his fangs into her neck, feeding. Their mother closed her eyes, smiling. A few minutes later, he pulled back, and she smiled at him, pulling her hood back up. She looked down at Argul, and as if her piercing eyes controlled it, the markings stopped glowing, and dimmed to black. She disappeared into the darkness. Numel looked down at Argul, with no sympathy. "I will always be stronger then you now." He kicked dirt into his eyes with his boot, and laughed. He turned around, and walked back to the camp, in his new glory. Argul closed his eyes in pain. He wanted to die, but he would have to wait years for it eventually come, from the lack of blood he fed off of. He thought about how the rule of the camp was, 'Do not feed. Fight until you are dead, and use vampirism as an advantage, but do never take advantage of it.' But why would their mother, all of their's mother, decide to choose Numel to become a complete vampire? Better then the rest? Argul could feel the dirt in his mouth, his throat dry. He still managed to run his tongue over his fangs, leaving tiny cuts on his tongue. He laid there in agony for days to come, animals picking off his body that refused to die and decay.

"Hey now!" Argul smiled at her little face, filled with joy. He lifted himself off the ground with help from Silwene, and he frowned thinking about how weak his body was getting every day. He ran his fingers through his wet hair, and started walking across the bar room, and up the stairs. Silwene trotted after him happily, taunting the dogs and the cat along the way. Argul walked up the stairs, and over to his bedroom. He dropped to his knees, and popped open a chest full of clothing, and pulled out Pour la Meute Rebelle's uniform, and a cloak with the heraldry on it. He smiled to himself thinking of Lunhilde, and the rest of the guild. He picked up the cloak and outfit, and walked up the other set of stairs, to the upstairs patio, and the bath. He kicked open the door, and ran across the patio to the bath sheltered by the tent. He stripped off his clothes, and slid in taking no time for relaxation. A few minutes later he got out, and toweled off, and pulled on the other set of clothes. He pulled the cloak over his head so he wouldn't get wet, and ran back across the patio into the house. He closed the door, and walked back down to his bedroom. Silwene had made herself comfortable on his bed, snoring, with little sparks shooting out of her nose with every exhale. Argul picked up a handheld mirror off a table, and started combing his hair, trying to put it all back in place. Finally satisfied some 20 minutes later, he turned around to check and make sure Silwene hadn't set his bed on fire yet. Mentally he argued with himself, 'I should go speak with the broker about getting more furniture while I'm here.. well, I could just lay down with Sil for a while...' He gave in to Silwene, and smiled and layed down next to her, petting her. They stayed like that for hours, while Argul thought of the love he had lost, and Silwene probably thought of more hyena jerky. Numel gritted his teeth. He looked around at the village surrounding him, that lay in ruins. Still smoldering, he walked around, crushing the bones of those still barely alive. Since that night he has not felt an ounce of regret, or emotion, besides that of hate for his brother. His mother had taught him magic of her own, that of disease and destruction, and the camp shunned him for such things. With little choice of their own, they still continued to train him, even as he passed them in knowledge and strength. Up until a few months ago he had stayed at the camp. One day his mother called for him, and told him Argul was regaining power, and travelling around Norrath with others. He left that night with the order to kill Argul no matter the cost. If it were necessary, the entire army, the camp, would back him up. Numel decided business was done here, and mounted his horse and rode off. Commonlands would be the next destination, he heard rumors of Argul heading back home. Esper reappeared on the docks in East Freeport. The rain continued to pour, so she pulled up the hood of her cloak. She looked around at the few people outside, scattered about. Some speaking in small groups, some on their horses as if waiting on call. She decided she would leave. She would visit Somborn one last time. She started walking towards the broker, and purchased food and drink, and extra weapons. She turned around, after putting everything in her bags. She inhaled deeply, her eyes looking over the city. She took off in a run, jumping into the air, and grabbing the roof of the building with a hand, slinging herself over. She ran up the steep side, now standing on the top, getting a better view. She blinked through the rain running into her eyes, and lowered her hood. "It is time." She snapped her fingers, and once more, disappeared. Numel rode swiftly through Nektulos Forest, slaying everything in his path. His jagged sword slicing off the heads of wolves, piercing snakes through the middle, and everything else still breathing. He smiled to himself with every blow, hugging his horse tighter, running faster. Reaching the gates to the Commonlands he did not even stop to open them, he just charged through, breaking it down. He slowed, and came to a stop, his horse kicking up dust. He could see the rain in the distance. "So he cannot control his emotions I see.." Numel's lips curved into a twisted grin, and kicked his horse, riding off once more. Esper had begun to run across the Commonlands, her feet moving quickly. With each step she grew weaker, and felt heavier. She couldn't decide if it was from the rain weighing her down, or the guilt she felt leaving Argul, leaving everything, with no sign or warning. Little did she know, Argul's own brother was near, very, very near. Numel got a quick glimpse of a figure running, and stopped his horse abruptly. He watched silently, and realized it was a girl, young. He decided he would follow her, surely anyone out here in the middle of this storm would have a reason other then to deliver food to her sick grandmother. As he watched, he saw her stop at the cemetary, and set up camp. "Hmm.." He smiled, and came in for a closer look. Esper muttered, "Dammit.. Argul..." she sighed, and pulled up her hood, and curled up into a ball on the ground, falling in and out of restless sleep. With those words Numel's lips parted in surprise, and he decided he would watch this girl closely, he could delay going to Freeport. Perhaps watching this girl would give him some sort of a lead.

Chapter Four - The Forest

As morning came, Argul decided it was time to get up, and go shop for furniture. He stretched, and looked down at Silwene curled up sleeping on the bed. 'Well, I won't be gone for long..' he decided he would let her roam the house while no one was home for the first time. He pulled on his boots, and headed out the door.

The sky had cleared up a bit, there was only a slight drizzle now. He nodded to the guard, and muttered, "Morning." He walked around to the side of the house, and tapped on the stone lightly, and a thunderbolt formed and glowed on the stone. A door revealed itself, and opened, and Argul stepped inside the dark room.

Blue light shot out of the room, and a horse whinnied and reared up.

"Down boy, down!"

Argul walked forward, into the now dimly lit room, and patted the black horse on the neck. Blue flames surrounded his hooves, and eyes. The horse calmed down, realizing it was Argul. Argul got more hay and water, and cleaned the stall.

"Cain, you ready to go out today?"

Cain grunted through mouthfulls of hay, with a disapproving look, the flames got wilder.

"Don't worry, no where far today boy. Just around Freeport."

Cain whinnied, and the flames dimmed down.

While Cain finished eating, Argul went and got the saddle, and placed it on his back, tying it in place. Cain grunted once more.

"I know you hate this thing, but we have to carry furniture."

Cain grunted louder, and Argul laughed, and mounted him.

"Ready?"

Cain reared up, his hooves meeting the ground with a loud crash, causing the guard to jump. Cain dashed off, jumping right over the flights of stairs, landing on the ground below. The guards at the gates to East Freeport fumbled around quickly to get the gates open so Cain wouldn't crash right into them. Barely squeezing through, Cain and Argul rode off, into East Freeport, doing laps a few times so Cain could stretch his legs, and then trotting over to the broker. Argul hopped off, and pushed through the crowd of people, to get to the man in charge.

"Oh Argul!"

The man smiled, and shook his hand.

"Back for more furniture?"

Argul smiled, and nodded. "Any new shipments?"

"Actually, yes.. hey, you know when Esper will be back?"

Argul narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean, be back?"

"She left last night during the storm, bought supplies and left. Said she was going on a long journey."

Argul's jaw dropped.

"..no.."

He spun around, and jumped on Cain.

"Home, home!"

Cain grunted with displeasure, he was just being fed an apple by a young teir'dal girl. But in obedience, he rode off towards their home. Argul jumped off when they reached the steps to the patio, and he shoved the reigns into the hand of the guard.

"Hold him for a minute!"

The guard shook with surprise, he had just been dozing off.

Argul ran inside the house, grabbing his armor, and various weapons. Running his fingers through his hair while running back to the door, pulling his boots on all at once, he pushed open the door forcefully knocking the guard over.

"Sorry, sorry, its an emergency. Guard the house day and night, please be careful." The guard nodded, realizing something more was going on then a hair emergency. Argul jumped onto Cain, and muttered a few words of a spell, and touched Cain's neck. They both glowed green for a moment, and they ran off at faster speed then ever.

Numel stood still with attention the entire night, watching Esper closely. As the sun rose, through the still raining sky, she yawned, and stood up. She stretched, and picked up her supplies, getting ready to set off again. She pulled some food out of her bag, and ate quickly while standing.

Numel tugged on the reigns a bit, sensing it was about time to move. Esper pulled her cloak tighter, and ran off towards Nektulos Forest.

It didn't take her long to reach the gates, being in a cleared area, and Numel had little trouble following her. She pushed open the gate slowly, and it creaked. She shivered partially from the rain, partially from fear.

There was no rain in the forest, but she still pulled her soaking wet cloak closer to her. She walked across the bridge slowly, nodding to the people gathered at the mouth of the forest.

Numel was at the gate still, watching her. A troll had caught eye of her, with a perverted grin on his face.

"Why hello pretty!"

The troll shrieked, and ran toward her, hands out-stretched. Numel argued with himself if this would be a good time to introduce himself to her as a 'hero to a damsel in distress', or if he should wait.

Esper turned around, and let out a scream. She took off running at full speed through the forest, dodging trees, wolves, and bats. She ran for a few minutes, and stopped to breathe. 'I think he's gone..' she thought. She frowned, and wanted to just lay on the ground curled in a ball and cry. She wanted everything to be okay. She wanted Argul, Udaox, anyone to save her. She bit her lip, regaining control of her emotions.

"I must do this."

She nodded to herself, and walked through the forest.

A few hours later Numel eventually found her again, and he watched. Esper was obviously lost, but she hadn't panicked yet. Eventually, she stopped, and paced. She could feel the fear rising within her, and started walking once more.

Numel's horse had slacked in being careful, and that would cost him. His hoof snapped a twig, and Numel cursed silently, as Esper spun around, weapons already out, ready to attack. Her eyes scanned the trees for a few minutes, and she saw nothing. Off in the distance, wolves fought chaotically, causing a lot of noise. Growling, snarling they snapped at each other's necks. Startled, she took off running again. As she ran, she stumbled, and then tripped over a rock, falling flat onto the ground. She whimpered, and picked herself up again, placing her weapons once more at her sides, and dusting herself off. She looked up, and saw the Ascent for the first time.

In amazement, she walked slowly towards it, cautious. She bit her lip nervously, it was growing dark. Night would come soon, she needed to stop. She decided here would be a semi-safe place, and set up camp next to the Ascent.

Hours later, in the darkness, Esper sat, leaning back against a stone wall of the Ascent, trying to catch a glimpse of the stars through the trees, with little luck. She thought of her love, but her thoughts turned to her journey, and what she was risking everything for. She was scared, but she decided this is what she must do, no matter what.

A light caught the corner of her eye, and she looked into the trees. A red light, growing bigger, and bigger. She stood up quickly, and unsheathed her weapons. A dark shadow of a person made its way through the trees, and the red light went out. Green lights shot towards her, and her weapons were cast aside. Golden rings surrounded the shadowed figure, a small glow on his body, his appearance could barely be made out.

"Why hello there.."

Numel smiled twistedly.

Chapter Five - Modinthalis

Esper snarled, and moved back swiftly not taking her eyes off the man, grabbing her weapons, repositioning herself to attack.

"Who the hell are you!?"

Numel smirked, the light reflecting off his dark plate armor. He shook his head, his hair falling over his eyes. His features were hidden still, Esper was barely able to make out anything.

The glow faded, and Esper's eyes darted around, trying to find him in the darkness. Numel had lunged forward, silently but swiftly, and grabbed her wrists, turning her body, her arms now behind her. He held her there, and whispered in her ear,

"You will tell me everything about Argul Vasch, or you will die the most unimaginable death, my dear girl."

She dropped her weapons on his boots, which he kicked aside, and her eyes shot open at the mention of Argul's name. Who would know his name, let alone want to know about him, threatening death?

She said nothing, but the tension left her body, and he smiled.

"Good girl."

He tied her wrists together roughly with rope, and carried her over his shoulder back to his horse, which he mounted, throwing Esper over the side of it, in front of him, and rode off.

Argul had reached the forest, and was now coming upon the Ascent, and he prepared to race up it, and search the northern, higher parts of the forest.

His sight had shifted to see all heat as he searched in the darkness, but still, a little was lit by Cain's flames both in front of him, and below him. He didn't hide his sounds, as he had no fear in whatever he may run into in his search.

Cain stepped on one of the sharp daggers, rearing back.

"Down boy!"

Cain whinnied, his hooves crashing against the ground, rattling the daggers, and Argul could instantly hear the steel blades clanking against each other. He blinked, letting the infravision fade, and unmounted.

"Come here, Cain."

Cain followed Argul, as he walked around the area, searching the ground by flame-light looking for what had made the sound. He found the weapons, and reached down to grasp them both, and looked them over in the light from Cain's eyes.

He identified them as Esper's, as one of them was actually a gift from himself, and had 'Esper' engraved in the blade. He sniffed the air, trying to trace if she had been here recently, and if anyone else he could recognize was as-

Argul dropped do his knees, screaming.

Numel heard the screams, and smirked, thinking, 'Hmm, wonder who's flesh is getting torn into tonight.'

Esper didn't even try to beat against him, or the horse, she was trying to stay strong, trying to think of any plan to escape.

Argul held the blades, one in each hand, staring up at the canopy of leaves. Tears streamed down his face.

"That f*cking b*stard!!!!!"

He couldn't believe it was true. The brother that had been chasing HIM had taken someone he loved. Oh he wouldn't just get his revenge, he promised himself many would die before Esper was safe. Some would say madness took over him, but really, his true self was showing, in a disgusting, twisted way. Argul would stop at nothing.

He stuffed the blades in a pouch on Cain's saddle, and held out his right hand before him, whispering something, and purple light covered his arm, a sword materializing. The light shone down the entire blade, he had wielded his own legendary Modinthalis.

He leaped onto Cain, and rode off, arm outstretched back, sword gripped, ready to tear through anything.

Chapter Six - The Hidden Hallway

Numel looked around the forest, now moving at just a slow walk. On his right was stone, he was looking for the entrance to one of the many hideouts of the camp.

While it is commonly known vampires reside in the forest, they have no knowledge of Numel's kind exisiting as well, so near by even. It is assumed if such facts were obtained, it would result in violence.

Finding the spot, he tapped on it softly with his knuckles, as if he were knocking on a door. The stones shifted, and a passage appeared. As they stepped inside, still on horse back, the stones shifted back to the original place, and with that, torches handing on either side of the stone hallway lit.

In the red light, Esper could see clearly if she were upright, but being sideways it was difficult for her to make out much. She saw the hallway went quite a ways, at the end of the tunnel, a huge brass door, and four other tunnels, two on each side of the door, leading into darkness.

The horse trotted down the hallway, and upon reaching the door, Numel grabbed Esper, once more throwing her over his shoulder, and he jumped off his horse, which he smacked on the side, and very much unlike Argul, he gave no words of thanks, or of praise. The horse grunted, and trotted down the tunnel farthest left of the door.

The door had a strange symbol on it, one that Esper didn't understand. But in fact, it was the ancient symbol of the camp. Numel touched the center of it with his hand, and it split in two, the two halves disappearing into the walls, producing an entrance into a large, well lit room.

Esper gasped, and Numel strode forward, smiling.

"She knows of Argul, Mother."

Argul beared his fangs, looked around. He could find nothing, no trail, but he could smell him on the air.

No one could explain it, but everyone of the camp was born with a certain scent, each individual. Numel's had always been of damp earth, and decay, while Argul's on the other hand, was of roses. It was legend that one day you would understand why you were graced with the scent. Argul didn't know it, but he was about to find out Numel's.

Argul followed the scent carefully, and ended up at a dead end... some stones. He jumped off Cain, which stood obediently in place, and Argul paced, his mind racing with possibilities. He stared at the wall of stone, beyond frusturation, and slammed both of his fists into them, sliding down, hunching over. The Modinthalis lay over his lap, still giving off a dim, violet light. A few seconds later, he heard the creak of the stone moving, and he saw the bottom of entrance way, moving, in the light.

"What the.."

He looked up, seeing the doorway, jumped on Cain, stepping inside the dark tunnel, as the doorway behind him closed.

Numel continued to smile, walking down the black carpeted path, up to the throne which his mother sat on, but cast in shadows. Esper couldn't even make out a faint outline, as she shivered from the cold. The room was degrees below freezing, and her teeth chattered as Numel's own temperature fell.

Instantly, she thought of vampires, but that was absurd. How many could there really be out there in Norrath?

Numel threw Esper onto the ground, before the steps leading up to the throne. She cowered, trembling, making her way to her knees, head down.

A quiet, but hoarse voice of a woman echoed off the walls.

"You have done well, Numel. Perhaps we will finally find that damned brother of yours."

Esper's head pivoted up into the darkness, no, that couldn't be true. Brother? Argul had a brother?

"Thankyou Mother. Am I needed of further assistance?"

"Yes, my dear boy. Please tie her to the execution table."

"Yes Mother."

Esper whispered, "Execution.. table..."

Numel dragged her by the hair to the left of the throne, onto another platform, with just a simple table on it. Esper shuffled to her feet, trailing behind Numel. He slammed her onto the table, and cut the ropes with a dagger from his boot. He took her hands, and tied them down with the belts on the table, that Esper hadn't even noticed. He did the same with her feet.

"Standard procedure?"

"Yes Numel."

Numel grinned, dragging the dagger down her chest, slicing open the armor, which he ripped open, revealing her skin, which now had a small cut, extending from her collar bone down her stomach. Esper closed her eyes, as he continued to slice her skin, in the form of the camp's symbol.

The torches lit for Argul, as they did for Numel. He could make out a door at the end of the tunnel.

Blood trickled down her sides, the cuts were just flesh wounds, if she could find a healer, she would survive. But being so tiny, her body couldn't fight forever. Her fighting style was to strike and never be seen, she wasn't trained to take blows. "I will tell you nothing!"

She gritted her teeth, closing her eyes. She thought, 'Where are you Argul..' Her mind raced with flashbacks, her moments with her love, the time they met.. kissing Argul in the rain, and kicking herself for doing such a thing. She hoped he didn't think of it in a romantic way, because she had never intended for it to be. She wondered if in a time of panic people thought of the stupidest things, the things that didn't matter. She should be thinking of a plan.

"Oh, I think you better tell me what you know, if you ever want to see daylight again. That, or I'll track down your little friend like the disgusting animal he is, and kill him in front of you."

She spat in his face, clenching her teeth together. He snarled, and slapped her.

"Oh, don't like that do you? Didn't think so.. So, what're you doing out there all alone? Where's your daddy to keep an eye on you?"

He smirked, and she unclenched her jaw. Her parents..

"You [I cannot control my vocabulary], Argul will kill all of you, I know it! He's fifty times stronger then you'll EVER be!"

She shouted these words and him, and tried to grab him with her hand that was closest to him, tugging on his belt. He growled, and produced a blade from under the table, promptly driving it through her hand, which fell limp. She didn't cry out in pain, but shock had come over her face.

"My.. hand.."

He smiled, and stroked her cheek.

He signed something to Cain, who was trained not only in verbal commands, but visual ones. Cain nodded as best as a horse could, and stayed put. Argul rolled his shoulders, and cracked his neck, checking his reflection in his blade. He let it call to his side with a strong 'flick', and strode down the hallway.

As he neared the door, he made out some sort of symbol. Feet away, his jaw dropped, his fangs being revealed. "No.."

He sniffed the air. Numel. His Mother. Esper. ..blood? He ran his tongue over his teeth, careful not to cut his tongue. This moment meant everything, life or death. He would never fall to his brother.

He touched the door by coincidence, and it opened. Cast in the shadows of the hallway still, his Mother, nor Numel or Esper took any notice. He quietly whispered a spell, and invisibility came over him, and his blade.

Argul quietly made his way into the bright room, and could barely make out the throne straight ahead. He thought to himself, 'Mother. She must be sitting there, and..' He looked to the side. 'Numel. And..' He stared dead on into Numel's back, why weren't they attacking him yet? Surely they could smell him. Wait.. no. The blood was stronger. They for some reason were letting the scent take over them. Why would that be? It had always been wrong to drink from anything. You were to face death before surrendering and drinking from a living being. Perhaps..

Argul made his way towards Numel, peering over his shoulder at Esper. He frowned, trying to not let his emotions come over him, which would result in him doing something stupid.

Mother sniffed the air absent mindedly, and her eyes shot open.

"Numel! He is here!" Numel spun around, bumping into Argul, the hidden shroud fading from contact.

"YOU!"

Numel cast aside the dagger, and it landed on Esper's stomach. He pulled out a long sword from under his cloak, holding it in one hand, while he unhooked his cloak, which dropped to the ground. He gripped the sword with two hands, and smiled.

Argul had jumped back, growling, teeth glinting in the light.

"So, my dear brother, seems we have lured you in.. yes, this is quite unexpected, I didn't think you were so stupid. Did our training teach you nothing?"

Numel smirked, taunting him.

Argul glared, and his temperature dropped to that of Numel's and his Mother's. The room's temperature was cold, but it wasn't unbearable for Esper, until..

Mother had signaled somehow for vampires to file into the room, closing off the exit, and surrounding the room, standing back at the walls. Similar blades held in their hands, palms keeping it steady with the tip on the marble floor.

Argul looked around the room careful not to give Numel an advance in attack, and recognized some faces. The rest were new vampires they had apparently bred, and young.

The room was now ice cold, the floor covering with frost. Argul ground his boot into the ice, as soft snow fell from the roof, covering them all.

Argul held out his left hand, and with two fingers, taunted Numel to come forward, smiling wickedly.

"Whats wrong, scared I will defeat you again?"

Numel snarled, now the tables were turning, and he knew it. He cast a spell of disease over his body to protect him for a time duration.

"Oh, whats that? Gone against everything you stood for? Hmm, magic user?"

Argul continued to smile, but still keeping some attention on the fact that snow was covering Esper slowly, she didn't have much time in these elements in her condition.

"THIS IS YOUR END ARGUL VASCH!"

Numel charged at him, blade to his side.

He was smiling like a vampire about to attack his prey.

Argul was gone.

'What!? Where!?'

Numel was remembering the memory of that embarassing day. No one is sure if the reason his eyes shot open in surprise was because he was reliving the past, or because..

His question was answered a split second later when he felt his back split open, Argul had cut his back, in the shape of an X. He fell to the floor, and in his mind, their father cheered.

Argul triumphantly placed his foot on Numel's head.

He said, as if announcing to the room,

"I should crush your useless skull."

His eyes narrows, and he kneeled down to Numel, having no fear that the room would attack him. He whispered into his ear,

"I will always be strong then you now."

He grabbed him by the hair, and smashed his face into the floor, and Numel was choking on blood.

Argul shook snow out of his hair, and flexed his fingers. He turned to face the table Esper was on, to see his Mother standing over her, dagger gripped tightly in both of her hands. Blue, dead veins showed through her thin, pale skin. With a horrid shriek, she drove it into Esper's heart.

"NO!!!"

He ran forth to his Mother, only to be charged by the room. He snarled, bearing his fangs at them, slashing through them with his blade. Quickly the hundreds fell, but it had been too much time. His Mother had disappeared, and Esper was dead to the world.

He leaped up the platform, and looked down at Esper's frail, stiffening body. Modinthalis slowly dissolved into the air around him, and he unhooked the belts tying her down. He removed the dagger, letting it drop to the ground, with a 'clank'. He lifted her body from the table in both arms, careful to not let her head roll back. He held her protectively against his strong chest, and stepped over the bodies as he made his way across the room, towards the exit. The only sounds heard were the tapping of Argul's footsteps against the marble, and Numel's continous choking.

Argul touched the door with a hand that was still holding up Esper, and it creaked open, and closed once he had made his way out.

He walked down the hallway, once more, and frowned at Cain, who seemed bothered by the death. He grunted, and nuzzled Esper's cheek.

Argul mounted him, holding Esper close with one arm, and the reigns in the opposite hand. They left the cave, and rode off to the Ascent, just to get away from the cave.

His temperature returned to that of what a normal human's would be, just in case anyone approached. He touched the bridge of his nose with two fingers, and concentrated, and out of the air, a portal opened to Steamfont. He squeezed Cain's sides gently, and he jumped into the portal.

Of course, they appeared in the center of the druid rings in Steamfont. The waking hours were upon them, and light was peeking over the mountains. He rode swiftly to the exit to the Loping Plains, and his final destination, the Cemetary of Somborn.

In the back of the cemetary, he lay Esper down on the ground carefully, and his form shifted into a wolf. With large paws, he digged at the earth, creating a deep hole, about 6 feet deep, and large enough for her body. He clawed his way out, and shifted back into his normal form.

He picked up Esper again in his arms, holding her close, head down. He said a prayer for her, to what God, he knew not. He whispered into her ear, "You can join your parents now.. I am sorry I never told you they were not alive.."

Argul didn't want to let her go. He wished there was some power he could possess to bring her back, but he couldn't find the strength within him. He had failed, he had let someone he loved and held close dearly die.

He lowered her body into the grave reluctantly, and closed his eyes. He shifted back into a wolf, and filled the grave, keeping his eyes off her body. He shifted back, and nodded in respect to the newly filled grave.

He mounted Cain, and rode back to Freeport.

Argul didn't bother to tie Cain to the gate in front of his house, he knew he was disciplined enough to not run. He nodded to the guard,

"I will be gone for a while. Please guard the house, I have paid the city in advance a great sum, and put in a tip for your trouble."

The guard nodded, and thanked him. Argul unlocked the door, and stepped inside. He looked around, the depression overwhelming him. He gathered his pets, and stepped outside.

"Okay, Zera, sit in here.."

He lifted Zera off the ground, who had a sleepy look in her eyes, which wasn't unusual. He placed her in a saddle bag, leaving the flap open so she could peek her head out.

"Kauvuo, and, uh.. you,"

He pointed at the hellhound puppy, that had no name.

"You two be good, and walk alongside us."

He looked at Silwene who was plopped onto the ground, her head in the air, spitting out little puffs of smoke. She had leaned back a little too far, and rolled onto her back.

"Come on Silwene, you can practice flying beside us."

He jumped onto Cain, and nodded once more to the guard. Silwene had lifted herself into the air, and almost fell, but luckily, latched onto Argul's back, her head next to his, peeking over his shoulder.

"That works too."

Argul rode out of the Southern district, into the Eastern. He paid for a ship, and a hired crew all his own. Cain's hooved clopped against the docks, as he trotted towards the boat.

"ARGUL! ARGUL WHERE ARE YOU GOING!?"

Udaox bounded down the docks, leaping feet into the air every few steps.

"ARGUL!!!"

He shouted, frowning, jaw dropped.

Argul lowered his head, and Cain leaped onto the boat, the dogs had already boarded, as they had run ahead. One of men from the crew he cut the rope holding the ship to the docks, and the boat began to float away.

"ARGUL!"

Udaox dropped to the ground on his knees, smashing two fist size holes into the wood of the docks with his powerful fists.

Argul didn't look back, for years. He sailed on that ship with his crew, and his pets, learning about the storms, and exploring the depths of the ocean.

Over time, he had gotten over a majority of the depression. Of course he still had it in waves from time to time, but the guilt had never lifted off of him. He began to smile again, faintly. Finally, he sailed back to Freeport, and stepped off the docks, his faithful pets behind him, who wandered to his home, where the same guard stood, and let them in with the spare key.

Cain, however, stayed.

Argul patted his nose, and jumped on.

"Maybe I'll become a Knight."

With his trademark charming smile, he rode into the city.

THE END
