This thread is to talk about things I (we) all loved about the original Kunark in the Everquest universe.

Dragons were free roamers in zones! Undoubtedly a fantastic sight was to see Gorenaire or Severilious taking dominion of their land. Not only those two but also there were other roaming super beasts protecting their lands, ie: Trakanasaurus Rex, Dragoons, Faydedar, Talendor, Gorenaire. Even more fantastic was to see a raid party trying to take down Gorenaire while levitating and running over above.

Levitating and Dreadlands. Enough said. Are there still snowy bits?

Drusella and Venril Sathir. Have they reunited in undeath, been resurrected to form a duo mob of unparalleled interactivity? Drusella throws her femur bone and it errupts into flames upon the raid party for 5000 points of fire damage. Venril sucks the life out of Jasek - the reborn halfling druid. Your party may succede in killing one part of the duo, but only the best will lay both to rest.

Multiple Boat dockings- Firiona Vie and Overthere for evils. Multiple city outposts, Cabilis, Firiona Vie, The Overthere, Chardok via faction building.

Sweet spot for spells. Juggernauts. I saw what I belive to be a Juggernaut on the RoK website as concept art - the golems with rune symbols glowing out of their bodies.

Multi layered dungeon zones. Most of the Kunark Dungeons went vertically up and down covering the same land as it did horizontally. They were not linear and often offered more than one way to reach a destination by going above and below in water tunnels (Sebilis ) and invisible ramps (City of Mist).

Clear darkness. When the sun goes down it isn't all foggy.. you can see and it's dark. It's nice to see dark sometimes and not just like a faded darkness, but black and clear green leaves close to you, glowing ghost iksars, etc.

Wurms, Wyverns, Drakes, Raptors, Frogloks, Sarnak, Witchdoctor Goblins, Iksar, Drachnids, Yeti, Drolvargs, Iksar Skellies, Iksar Ghosts.

The Combine Spires. Possibly the focus point of the Shissar evacuation from Luclin - laser whose focused energy burned a deep hole into the ground near the spires and laid the eggs of Emperor Ssra's offspring who have been building in power learned by the Creator who also managed to escape through the beam.

And of course- The anticipated Shard of Fear and Plane of Hate which was the precursor to the original will make it's debut in the coming weeks.

And... the Epic weapons. Raid encounters in RoK have been tuned with the Epics in hand. First course of action is to get everyone equipped!

ENJOY!

Its hard to explain just what I loved about Kunark.. it just -felt- right you know? The wind and sound.. the very ancient feel of everything.. Its just something that really had to be experienced..

The tie-dyed ninja chickens. The dungeons, the badger race. Ancient cities. Zombie gorillas. Froglok foragers. Roaming named. The wide open space. The differing factions in the same zone. Unexpected zonelines. Giants that looked like Abe Vegoda. Yeti and killer cactii.

I really would love to see soem more heritage/signature quests added that is basically what most people remeber when they think of eq2 quests. Hopefulyl the fungi tunic makes it return. I really think they need to plan on adding at least 2 heritage quests along with those epic quests. There is so much they could add i hope they have enough time to make a truly epic scale expansion w alot of content. If not to at least plan to include them shortly after release.

I remember my first ever trip to Kunark in EQ1, i couldnt wait for the boat so a guildy wiz ported me to the spires in Dreadlands. I'll never forget running around the combine pyramids looking for the way out, then running through the ice tunnel into the snow filled wastes and what is that big white thing in the distance?? holy [Removed for Content] its a Dragon! Gorenaire roaming around wasting innocents lol.

Then running past Karnors, dodging Drolvargs, Drachnids, Giants, Ninja chicken, Skeletons etc on the way to Firiona Vie.

Skyfire Mountains, with the red sky, the cracked earth, lava flows and Talendor feasting on unfortunate people who got in his way. Also the entrance to Veeshans Peak, just looking at the entrance you felt awe to what lay beyond.

Or going to Sebilis for my first ever time, running through Traks Teeth, past the ruins, it really set the scene. Sebilis arguably the greatest dungeon in any mmorpg, the design and layout of that place was unparalleled and unbeaten even to this day.

I really hope they can capture the atmosphere that the original Kunark had, Skyfire Mountains, Swamp of No Hope, Karnors Castle, Sebilis etc.
