Over in the Tradeskill forums we have been talking about making the broker more newb-friendly (it's at the end of TS wish list for the next dev?, page 45-46). The idea is have the Inkeepers give newbs a small broker container, 8 slots or so and placeable as furniture, along with their market board and instruct them on it's use along with the market board tutorial. So far most agree that this would go a long way toward clearing up the initial broker consignment system confusion without having a huge negative impact on the game.

The item should be No Trade (like the table and other items given by the innkeep) so that someone couldn't just create an alt to get a second. I think there could be an additional informational bit from the innkeep on how to put the salescrate into the broker interface -and- how to place it in the room.

Broker slots should only hold storage crates (not strong boxes and bags)

All storage crates placed in the broker slots should have the function of being able to place the item in your house

Placement of storage crates in a house will remain as a bonus to "shoppers" to remove the commission fee but not be required in order to sell from the crate.

A "Basic Storage Crate" should be awarded as an additional reward through the starter house quest along with the basic table, mirror, chandelier, and merchant board.

The housing NPC should inform new players on how the merchant boards function in regards to the use of storage crates as well as explain that merchant boards are only for monitoring broker status (you cannot purchase items from the merchant board).

The "Basic Storage Crate" should have a mountable option for when you decide to upgrade to a larger crate. I would suggest it being turned into a nice desk or a fancy chest of some sort and be no-trade.

I think the idea of a no-trade introductory broker box would be great! Perhaps it could give the option to be removed from the broker window and used as a house item once you've outgrown it, sort of like the Dwarven Ringmail Tunic can be either equipped or used as a house item (a huge chest). The tutorial could explain the difference between Sales Displays, Strong Boxes and Bags.

I would definitely *not* be in favor of barring the use of common strong boxes and bags in broker slots. It may take a new player quite a while to get the resources to get a sales display. The first recipe is Tier 3 and the fir salesman's crates are going for about 15g on Unrest at the moment and they just go up from there. Smaller containers are cheaper to obtain, available from tier 1, and have about 1/2 the slots of their Sales Display counterparts. This allows the sales displays to be more worth the effort to get them without robbing fledgeling players of a way to earn money to afford those upgrades.

Eliminating the broker fee is an option, not a requirement. If you want to always avoid fees, haunt the local tradeskill instance and ask crafters for their services in person.
