Alright, I just got back in Everquest 2 after about a year and I don't recall having this problem a year ago. I can't really describe it so I have a picture. Notice the edges of my characters arms. This happens on every single setting (High Performance, High Quality, etc.)

This issue could be due to a few problems. First and most likely, is that your software in your operating systems used to set additional resolution settings in programs, is set to "let application handle" or "low". Find the icon in the bottom right hand corner of your task bar, and shuffle through it and find the two options Anti-Alising and Anti-Stropic Filtering. (in windows vista, start by right clicking your desktop, click "personalize", and then click "display settings". Then go the advanced tab, and start looking from there). Other rare problems could be RAM that has slight damage in certian areas due to static electric discharge while handling, capacitor plague (a capacitor break down on lots of older systems), a failing hard drive, or an over heated video card. If none of the above problems sound like they may be related, and the above suggestion did not work, please report back, and post your DXDiag info so we can try to figure it out.

Hey, thanks for trying to help. The anti-alising and anti-stropic filtering didn't work when I set it higher, and I don't know whether or not it could be one of the other problems you mentioned, but if it helps, it doesn't happen on any other games I play. Also, how would I post my DXDiag info? I tried pasting everything here but it says it exceeds the limit. Is there some way to upload it into an attachment?

Do you have the following line in your eq2.ini file: r_aa_blit 1

Also make certain that AA is not set to Application Controlled via your graphic card control panel.

Where is the EQ2.ini file? And yes, I made sure to uncheck Application Controlled and I set it to 6x, but that didn't change anything.

The Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering options can be set to Application Controlled without the problems indicated in the picture. I have them set accordingly and don't experience jagged lines, at least to that level. Do you have an ATi graphics card? If you do, you can open up Catalyst Control Center and see if Mipmap Detail Level has been changed. It should be on quality. I accidentally lowered that setting and experienced similar problems with lack of detail and jagged lines. Also, what resolution are you running. 800x600?

My Mipmap detail is set to quality, and I have tried the taking it off application controlled with no change. I am running on 1024x768

If you are running an ATI card make sure to have Catalyst AI disabled in the control panel.

The problem with leaving the control panel set to Application Controled is that EQ2 won't know how to set the AA levels. The command in the eq2.ini file tells the game to run AA but not how to run it. This is where your graphics card control comes into play. By setting the control panel to not allow Application Control of AA you are then allowing the card to tell EQ2 how to handle AA.

Just tried it, didn't do anything.

EQ2.ini is actually just called "eq2" and the subtext says "configuration settings". It's located in the main eq2 folder, under sony in program files if you did a default install. Right click and sort by name to make it a bit easier to find. You have to have that command string and the application control turned off to run without jaggies....just be prepared for a pretty big performance hit if you aren't running a good graphics card, bout 2gigs of ram and a decent processor.

Alright after messing around with it for a little, I reduced the jagged lines a lot. Thanks for the help guys.

Glad to hear that it's getting better for you. What do you think ended up doing the trick? Also, would you consider posting another screenshot for the sake of this particular thread having a Before and After image?

Yeah, after looking at it again, I notice there really isn't as much of a change as I thought. I am running on 6X Anti-Aliasing (not application managed) and I edited the eq2.ini. The reason I thought there was a change is because it is less noticable when I have armor on. Here's another picture to compare it.

It at least appears as if AA is now working when before it was obvious that it wasn't. Now it's just a matter of playing around with the Control Panel Settings & In-Game Settings until you find the right balance between desired image quality and performance. Poke around with that for a short time and report back if you don't mind.

FYI: don't pay any mind to the Inventory Paperdoll Image as it will more than likely always be pixelated.

Are your in game settings on Textures>characters set to max? And your overall resolution maxed (the game reso with the slider bar...not the actual 1400x900 setting or w/e)? Otherwise you'll always have jagged edges.
