Hi, I am new to EQ2. EQ2 seems like a really nice game, the only question I have is that it is extremely extensive on my computer. I get very low frames pr. second even on my computer which is Dual Core, 2gb ram, 8800gts graphix card, which I should expect it to run smooth on atleast very high. Do you guys have an ideas on how to improve my performance, because it is simply killing me. Hope you can help, and that this topic ain't discussed too many times before ps. I have set the shadows to lowest and distance of the different things to lowest as well.

Hey Traveller

This Happens with me too, Extremely good PC components, yet low fps...Can I ask: Do you have Windows Vista? This tends to lower the frame rate extensively.

Hope i've helped you

Regards!

Definitely Vista or your hardware configuration.. cause I get pretty good fps on a 3 year old system running XP. Unlike many of the games out there which are designed around the latest hardware and you just upgrade your system to increase performance in the game. EQ2 allows you to adjust your game settings to accommodate the existing hardware in your computer. Better hardware is nice.. but EQ2 is hardly "Plug n Play"

I really don't see this as a MS problem, since all the other games runs just fine. It must be EQ which has some problems with vista. It is really a shame because it looks like a nice game, it is just lagging too much on my computer.

Hmm just had a read through your post again and forgot to read the p.S part. If you cant run this game smoothly with complex shader distance AND rendering distance at the lowest setting then there must be A. Somthing wrong with your computer or B. Somthing wrong with your hardware.

I can't understand why so many people are having trouble with vista. I'm running vista and my pc is not that overly impressive but the game seems to be running well enough to me. My system is:

Athlon 64 3500+, Nvidia 7600gt, Creative SB X-Fi, 2 mb ram

The only time a get a bit of a judder is when something is downloading or scanning in the background. There again I haven't really altered much in the graphics settings, don't know enough about them to know what they do or how they affect performance. I've only altered the distance one so I can see shinies further away and have pushed the particle effect up to half way so I can see my spell effects. I could probably get better graphics by altering a few more settings but as I said, I don't know what I can get away with.

The problem is 90% likely your 8800 drivers. EQ2 is notorious for not working with certain versions of that graphics card's drivers. You can check all your other drivers and it won't hurt. My best advice is to go to the top of the main board>support forums>technical help. There's some awesome people posting on those boards with a wealth of knowledge about what helps you play eq2 better computer wise. I know ya probably hate hearing this, but it's hard to setup a good rig at times for eq2, but once you get it set, it's so worth it. Edit: Also, the 8800 issue has been hashed over about a dozen times on the support forums, so run a search within that forum before ya ask again. Just common courtesy, so the people there don't have to answer the same issue 20x It also occured to me that you said you run dual core. There've been issues with that at times too, since eq2 runs only on a single core. But, if your cores are each a good speed with a decent amount of cache, that shouldn't be a bottleneck.

The problem with Vista ist that it uses a new Directx10 which is not compatible with the Directx9 EQ2 is programmed for. Vista now uses a special modus for running this Directx9-games, basically it emulates a directx9 enviroment. But this is not very fast...

The other problem with Vista is that the drivers are not yet fully optimized by the developpers of the hardware. They need to do completely new drivers for Directx10. It's a whole new system and the devs have first to find out how to do it the best way. So now for some hardware it will work fine, while other hardware with less optimized drivers work worse.

On my laptop I can test the difference between Vista and XP because I have put both OS on my machine, and the difference is really huge.

The problem why some games work fine while only EQ2 has trouble is mostly because EQ2 is still way more graphic- and cpu-intensive than any other game. It was this problem when it released and it still is, only the settings of the users are now higher but the complaints are still the same

Thank you all for your answers, and I am sorry if I already had been answered before. I will try to look into getting some different drivers, and hopefully that will work Have a nice day
