View Full Version : (not so) Random Disconnects

Ever since Tuesday's patch I am randomly disconnected while in game. By disconnected, I mean the screen goes black then I get the "Trying Login Server #1" etc. messages and then it dumps me back to the character select. I've checked my pings/tracerts and everything is fine there, I've also made certain that I'm using Sony's recommended drivers for my video card (a Radeon x1650 with the 7.5 Catalyst drivers). I tried upgrading to the latest drivers (7. and that didn't help either. It only does this on EQ2, and not on World of Warcraft or any other online game, so what gives?

I'm having a similar issue, except I cannot even get to the character select. The game loads up after I hit PLAY on the Launcher, and then when it tries to go to Character Select it just sits there attempting to connect to each of the Login Servers and failing. After it goes through them twice it says it can't connect and to try again later. Already done that several times.

This only started happening with the patch on Aug 14th, so I know it's not my settings. I've checked my firewall, and EQ2 is allowed through, even turned the firewall off completely just to check. The computer also connects to WoW without any issues.

More details. It doesn't matter whether I use my normal UI or the default. I've tried the full file scan. I've turned the firewall off completely and turned it on with exceptions for EQ2.exe and EverQuest2.exe. Nothing. However, it pretty much always disconnects me when I open my inventory. That seems like a clue, but I don't know what it means.

On the advice of some guild mates, I also disabled Windows Defender and uninstalled the Windows Vista patches from this week. Also to no effect. If I open one bag at a time it's usually okay, but it still will randomly disconnect me in combat or during zoning, crafting, opening my quest log, etc. Basically, any time I request data from the server, there's a chance it simply disconnects me instead. Again, this only started happening after the Aug. 14th patch.

There were issue's with Belkin router's in regards to this. What is the make/mode of the router you are using?

I posted another topic not seeing this one. I am getting the same problem. Mine occurs every 18 minutes. I am not using a router, just a regular DSL modem. I was not having any problems until last night when it started going rampant.

I used to have this problem sometimes, on my old system. Try this and see if it works. Unplug the power from the modem that you use for 1 minute, plug it back in, and then hold the reset button on the back of your modem for 10 seconds and release. This is going to reset your modems "address" from the server, and attempt to reclaim a new one. __ Now, I know I know, "That doesnt make sense! If my computers address was corrupted or damage somehow, I wouldnt even be able to connect to the net!" - very true, most of the time. This is a solution that worked for me, after I had some network changes done to my intranet (note the A in intra, meaning, the network inside of my local area), done without my knowledge. This can occur at the servers source, during routine maintence. There is a very very very long list of how internet addresses are routed to other computers over the internet, and server maintence can change these "routing tables", that tell the addresses how to move through the system to get where it is going. By resetting your modems address, it asks the server "please sir, check over your routing tables, and see if maybe we should be routing my information a different way. Id like a new address, id like you to check my modems hard coded address against this new address, and then check to see if there are any connection errors that you can automatically sort for me when we do that." This should solve your problems, if nothing has changed since the last time you connected properly to the system, such as installed or removed hardware/software.

Well, it's a brand new, out of the box router as of the Sunday before the patch, but I tried the power-cycle reset as you suggested. Unfortunately, it had no effect. I'm still getting booted if I open my bags or try to craft/fight/etc. It seems that any time my computer requests data from nektulos.everquest2.com that SOE terminates my connection. The application doesn't end, my router log doesn't show anything unusual (in fact, it shows a steady connection to the internet the entire time), SOE just stops sending me data.
