Finally have to bite the bullet and do a massive hardware upgrade

I am doing the upgrade mainly to get better performance out of Vanguard, but I need some boost in EQ2 also. I run at 1024 x 768 and don't plan to run it at a higher resolution.

This is what I am looking at in the way of new hardware:

MB= ASUS P5KV

Intel Pentium 4 LGA 775 Prescott 3.2Ghz (Not dual core)

Or Intel Penium D 940 Presler 3.2ghz 775 (Dual Core)

2 GB Memory

Video :ASUS EN8600GT/2DHT/256M GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16

Some one has said that a 7900 Card would be better in terms of driver compatibility. Also since EQ2 and none of the games I am interested in don't support dual core or have problems with them -- should I even bother with dual ( can always add later if the support comes in). I really hate buying problems which I feel the very latest and greatest and newest will get you - problems.

Any opions or advice appreciated.
