Hi I used to be a player here, got a couple chars to level 40 but hopped on the Wow bandwagon. Time to come back, but I"m worried that I'll be completely left behind because I have to re-level my chaacters to 70-80 whatever the cap is before I"ll find a guild who may want to take me raiding. I don't want to solo for the next 7months getting back into the game. (I'm sure my first rolled char will be throw away as I realize it's not what I want to play..) So, from a players standpoint.. for someone who likes guild raids and such (But I"m not hardcore.. I only play 2 nights a wek) Is this worth it for me at this late stage in the EQ 'game'? Thanks. Your honestly would be appreciated.

I sure don't understand why you'd have to solo, lol. There are still lots of new people starting the game every day. And there are certainly guilds who raid who are not hardcore. And if you do end up soloing, the solo content is great. Give it a try! Post on your server forums asking about guilds and check out the guild tool in game. If you quit at level 40 you've only got 30 levels to the cap and there's lots of great content, especially if you have the expansions. Note: Don't look at my player profile to see if leveling is possible, I'm a tradeskiller, I about only level by accident!

My guild most certainly isn't hardcore. We do some raiding though. We've recently had a whole horde of former players who'd dropped the game a while back either for other games or the dreaded REAL LIFE come back with their lower level characters. They are happily leveling up and us higher level folks will mentor or group our alts with them to help them along.

My advice is look for a casual sort of guild that either raids occassionally or is part of a raiding alliance. Many of the casual guilds don't have level restrictions or anything if you show yourself to be a decent person.

I know some guilds on my server still do lower tier targets as well (like the epics from the original game). My guild has had plans to but it seems they are only up when none of the people who would benefit from them are on hehe.

you can easily solo to lvl 70 without doing any or very little heroic (group) content unless you are willing to. and it wont take too long. there are many solo quest lines and stuff to do solo nowadays.... ++Xan

Between soloing and raiding there is of course grouping. There are guild which will take lower level toons. There are guilds which do raids below the level cap. Mine does, though only because I organise them myself.

I stopped playing 2 months after release. Fast forward 30 months later and I just started playing again last Saturday. 9 days later, I think this is an extremely newbie friendly game. I started with a new character and very little retained knowledge of the game. I am now level 21 adventurer and level 20 crafter, and I have my first platinum piece (which is way more than what a new player needs to meet her needs). I found a (fantastic) guild quickly. The level 1-9 chat channel is very helpful for new players, and the crafting channel is a great resource for new crafters. I encounter a lot of new players all the time -- in fact, I suspect it's near a quarter to a third of the players I encounter (in Kelethin on Antonia Bayle server) are new players.

I am in the same boat. I purchased the game during launch.. to be honest I couldn't stand it. I've recently (2 weeks) come back.. and I am glad I did.. this game has changed a lot, for the better. You won't feel left behind.. there is no shortage (at least on my server) of new players through all of the tiers..
