A little about myself I tried EQ2 when it first came out and quit after a month or so. I played the original EQ for about 3 years, and spent a year and a half/two years on WoW. Briefly came back to EQ2 to try out the fae, loved the game, but RL friends insisted I come back to WoW, so I quit EQ2 yet again. After that I tried Lotro. Finally now I'd like to come back and actually "start" playing EQ2.

So while I'm not entirely new to the mechanics of the game, I'm still for all intents and purposes; a newbie

From what I've read the communities in this game seem to be mature and friendly. As a means to help me quit the last time I deleted what few characters I had. I'm starting fresh. Can anyone recommend a good starting server? Friendly, social, relaxed yet focused etc.

The evil fae race, do I need to purchase anything extra for that, or will the fact I bought echoes of faydwer cover me?

Starting classes. Any suggestions? Personally I'd like to make an evil fae shadowknight, but if that's going to cause me nothing but grief please warn me now.

Any tips or suggestions, while I get back into the game would be greatly appreciated. I'm really looking forward to finally being able to sink some time into this game and really enjoy it.

Welcome back! If you have echoes of faydwer you will have access to the evil fae. It was a free update when it was released. Evil fae shadowknight shouldn't have any problems. I have one, granted he is level 11, but had no trouble with him so far. In fact I find him quite fun. As for other tips I don't think I have any... I am still quite a noob too.

I have a evil butterfly Shadowknight, granted I am a total newbie as well, and its fun.

Kaerin, in my post I said they were real life friends, not just guildmates. One at the time was actually a co-worker. So both the nagging in game and out, they insisted I come back to WoW

As for my other question. Can anyone recommend a friendly server? I'm thinking about Antonia Bayle, but is that a strictly RP server?

So far the community is friendly and helpful on all the servers around, maybe better to go for one active at your usual playtime. When you create your character and log to the server screen, the higher loaded ones are the listed at bottom. Happy hunting and questing!
