View Full Version : Alts for Tokens?

(( im just curious where people stand on this. recently ive begun to hear about people farming tokens off their alts on other boxes for t7 pvp gear. Although its not my thing, im curious about what other people think, Is it just bleh nobody cares? I heard there was some huge falling out from guilds over this issue? But then I discovered what I thought to be a token farm for a guild and nobody really cared.... Im pretty sure i stumbled upon a few token farms before in 'out-of-the-way' zones... In retrospect thats exactly what they were... was an entirely new concept for me lol, but then again if theres a design element of the game you can count on someone to take advantage of it. Now the questions are: Is it fair/moral/just/excuseable? Has this been around since EOF launched? Is it truly bad, since both accounts are paid for? Does it make token farmers feel proud of themselves to have a self-earned suit of pvp gear? If its bad, where do the token farmers usually go to hide and farm, and where can we catch them? If its good, where can we go to farm tokens? (pm me with locations!) ^^^^^^^^^^^ JUST KIDDING on that last one!!! *ducks* jeeez. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEPLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEPLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEPLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEPLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEPLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ----------> DONT NAME ANY NAMES in this thread, DONT BLACKLIST ANYONE. Just trying to have a regular un-biased, neutral discussion on a topic that seems to be taboo.

It's unfair.

If I said they should be banned for it.. I'm out on a limb... 'cause I might even get banned myself!

Banned for playing a conjuror, for trying to attack orange 70s, for getting me *** handed back most of the times, for trying to learn my do's and don'ts in pvp .. but in fact handing out tokens to the fabled level lockers . It's a thin line between giving away tokens due to playing a courageous warrior or a simple node to be harvested.

But they should get banned for token farming. Hilarious! The day we meet a pvp-geared knight and come to witness during the fight he has no pvp skills at all! Ohmy, the day that happens, lol. No, kill me, please.

It's just too lame.

The worst thing is when you have a group of people conspiring to farm tokens.

In fact a certain group of players I know of has done this and thus taint the victories of any they group with unfortunately

I laugh at them everytime I see them. To me any titles they have gained are simply void by default and in this way further makes the title system even more of a joke

edited to remove possible flamage

Already well established as a ban worthy offense. Sony banned a number of accounts for doing this previously. Please, /petition any information you have or learn about individuals doing this activity.

Sadly, in one shape or form, there have been exploits on how to get faction (pre-eof) and tokens and such (post-eof). I personally think what I said in the first sentence, an exploit. There are places that people go to hide for this event. It is one of those things that is harder to track down since it does take 2 accounts, but people have been caught doing it. I personally know of only one person that was doing this, and when the guild found out, they asked this person to leave. The person has since transferred to Naggy with his posse. On one of your other threads you brought up what it takes to fix problems like this...and that is player justice. If there are reports of such an activity, the players need to do what they can to deal with it...ie. bar from guilds and the like. Ideally, I would think SOE could support guilds and other players by actually verifying the investigations and banning and deleting one or both toons involved. I love the token idea that they implemented, but the sad fact is that when SOE comes up with a good idea (which is a chore in itself at times) there are players always looking for the way to exploit or take the easy path to getting the new gear. It is as our dark elf friend from Shadow Guard has said IMO...."it seems the players of honor and integrity in MMOs are of the older generation that may be a more and more rare breed". You will find exceptions and see some good new players with integrity, but more and more often, you see players looking for the fast track or easy way out while exhibiting the most lame tactics out there, such as griefing (especially in the newbie zones). Sadly, it seems like we are the ones looking back now and telling the old stories of how good it used to be...

I would argue PvP built around any system of reward or loss is a poor implementation. PvP should be a thing that's available to players. There needn't be a system invoked where anything is gained or lost. That's the entire problem with EQ2 PvP. Winning means something. Whether it be a title or capping faction, there's meaning and a reason to go out and kill people. Obviously, people will use any means necessary to "win". And thus, we have the PvP we have.

A novel and interesting idea perhaps. Remove faction and titles for PvP, change the faction based PvP gear into status based CITY gear, and to throw the exiles a bone, give them some slightly less powerful pvp gear as well, but earned thru status to Haven or something like it.

Makeover pvp titles into city titles paid thru coin and status as well, and then we can all be Overseers! Eventually. After accumulating about 5 million status points or so. And maybe with RoK, include a raid quest to take out guards in opposing cities? You know, the level 75 x4 Epic ones?

Overseer requirements.

15p, 83g, 75s 5,000,000 status points. Killed (1) opposing faction city epic guard (contested)

Just an example, let SOE come up with the rest, or something different at least.

The people who so adamently wanted people hung for it appearently lost their fervor for the whole thing after their intended victims were taken care of. I predicted then that they would stop caring immediately afterwards and indeed that is exactly what they did. It was never a question of right and wrong, it was a bunch of people taking out their hatred on the one enemy they couldn't destroy no matter how much they tried and tried..and having finally accomplished that..they suddenly didn't care to persue anyone else who was doing it. So long as the players involved pose no threat to them personally..the righteous crowd goes about it's business. Ooh let me find the names of the people who SWORE to me that wasn't the case..so they can now come and spam threads for you about it.. I'm sure if they SWORE no matter WHO it was, they would do the same..they would have to be here right now demanding justice..right? *laugh*

Would anyone of vox have pvp gear if they did something about token farming?

Seriously though?

I agree that a whole guild farming on one alt is wrong but someone leveling up a toon to lvl 63? (green to 70) and farming that toon on your own every 30 minutes is not very efficient and frankly difficult to stop.

Cmon Apple thats a unfair comparison =(. The ONLY reason that people want lvl twinks to level is cause they want more pvp they could care less about new player gankings.

Far as I am concerned, farming tokens from one or your alts(or a friend's alt) is an exploit, and anyone caught doing it should be banned or have the characters deleted at the very least.

This whole thread reminds me of the old days in SWG where players would farm their Jedi alts for cash or Jedi would farm each other.
