I am new to EQ2 and have been debating which mage class to play. Given limited down time, I expect to solo frequently. Though I like illusionists, many of their spells seem to be group oriented. The summoners are interesting and are reputedly easy to solo. However, I would prefer to dish out the damage myself. Warlocks look great on paper due to their AoE focus but appear to be at a severe disadvantage to the other mage classes when it comes to monster hostility. For these reasons, I am most interested in creating a wizard. In reading through the posts in this forum as well as the info available at EQ2 Players, it is not clear to me that wizards still have the Portal and Depart spells available to them. These spells are not included among the spells and abilities listed for wizards on the EQ2 Players site. Further, a number of older posts in this forum suggest that wizards lost their evac spells at some point in the past. I know that a number of site-specific translocation spells (e.g., Translocate: Fay, Translocate: Commonlands) became available to wizards and warlocks recently. My concern is that the developers may have substituted these spells for Portal and Depart. Is this correct? If not, then how do these site-specific spells differ from Portal and Depart? Also, other than EQ2 Players, is there anywhere I can get a current list of the spells available to the different mage classes? I apologize in advance if my questions appear to be ignorant or uninformed. Thanks for your help.

Wizards still have both portal and depart, with EoF srocerers got the ability to transport to differnt places namely Antonica, Common Lands and Greater Fay with either a single target or group wide spell.

EQ2.wiki has a good write up of class spells if I remember correctly.

If I may, I'd like to ask a few more pointed questions regarding the port spells. My understanding is that Portal and Depart are "evac" spells. That is, they can be used while in combat from any location to teleport back to a designated safe point. Is the "safe point" designated at the time the spell is cast, or is it always a particular location depending on the zone in which one is located? Also, can the translocation-type spells (e.g., Translocate: Antonica) be used as evac spells, or do they only teleport from designated point to point (e.g., one Wizard spire in location X to another Wizard spire located in Antonica)?

Leonid answered while I was posting. Even if you can translocate in combat it would not be very useful due to the loooong casting time similar to he amount of time taken by a call.

Yes you can indeed use the ports in combat and as an evac so to speak. If the group happens to need a poof and all evacs are down you can try to port the group out assuming you have the time. If your fighting a mob and going to die you can also use it as an evac. just root and then cast, 10 seconds is all you need. I would recommend root+sprint instead tho.

Yes. What you should always do when one person dies is IMMEDIATELY start casting your group port. To whichever zone is the farthest away.
