I play a necro on a pvp server. Now at the moment, im only level 25. When I get jumped by a scout I can -almost- kill them. I'll fear them, chain them, and dot em and nuke em. but that initial attack has me down pretty low. I am fully mastered, mastercrafted gear. As soon as that chain breaks, they're at 20% hp or so but . . . they still kill me. Soon as they get too me im dead. I can get my pet to taunt em off but that works for 2 seconds till they hit their PVP target key. Does this get better higher up or worse? I have a 26 brigand too, I seem to win more often with my necro, but brigs and swash kill me >.>

So can you kill a scout that gets the jump on you? and how?

As always it comes down to if you see them coming.

I'm only level 14, but if i see em coming I almost always win.

Root, DoTs, sick pet, then run and use a master-crafted wand. those things hurt, and can be cast while running.

er they dont hurt as bad as my lifetap, which i can get 2 off in the time it takes that wand. however i do always win if i see em first. The question was if they get the jump how do you win. Right now I can come [I cannot control my vocabulary] close. but as I hear scout DPS goes WAY WAY up 30+. right now a scout jumps me, i tap my pet taunt 100% chance to taunt em, I fear em and root em, and I can almost destroy em. But then when it breaks they take me out. My fear is that in the future if they get the jump on me im not even going to come close, im just going to die.

edit* mastercrafter wand is about a 200-300 damage nuke that takes forever to cast. My lifetap is a 400 damage nuke (well 350ish) that takes 2 seconds to cast with a 3 or 4 sec recast. So dont count too much on that wand later and chain never seems to land, and its harder to resist than fear >_<

I usually fear, lifeburn, send pet in, lifetap, lifetap, perceptors command, root, back off, lifetap, FD, and keep going. honestly though... the singletarget lifetap followed by the AE one usually drops scouts dead at my feet.

mines currently 330 damage single target, 230 damage ae, PVE. so pvp thats nerfed. safe to say it doesnt drop em at all.

Or the next lifeburn tick. The scouts I cant kill like this are rangers, they tend to not go into melee range. and they will usually kick my butt since theys tart attacking from wherever fear leaves them.

my experiences with fear have been less than pleasing. Usualy breaks in like 2 seconds, and i dont have lifeburn, im specced for sta/str right now, and working towards tainted heals. 5 second cast for a nuke that beats me up isnt too appealing, glad to hear it works for you tho. Im sure id wind up killing myself more often than them.

Rember NOT to use any dumbfire type pets on any class that can FD or "evade" in any way, as they lose their target.

I tried that fear->LB->tap thing and I gotta say it works pretty well, not flawless of course, but unless you get an early break on the fear you are in good shape in alot of fights. And noone says you can't root/fear, and stun them too, all the while LB is ticking.

A variation on that, and one of my favorite things to do in game is this. Find your friendly bot group, fear the tank, drop LB on the healer, tap and dot him all the while your pet is smacking on the healer too. By the time fear on the tank usually wears off, the healer is dead and it's just a matter of cleaning up the rest of the scum.

Man I hate bots.

That will leave the bots without targets, and they are perfectly harmless when they have no targets. Though, some bot crews are fast enough ont he ball to retarget the MA. Ah well, you can always fear the MA when those guys show up hehe.

Guess what happend next? Yep, thats right, fear hit the tank, and the whole group ran into the lava. It was a thing of beauty... made me cry.

YES ... WAY worse... once scouts get their neat over 50 skills it's almost impossible if you dont see them coming. The best thing is IF you see them coming try to fear them( i have M1 fear and 5 AAs in resistability and all the subj gear i can get and it still gets resisted over 50% of the time. My defiler's fear never really does with no AAs.. i think necro fear is broke tbh.) while you send scout pet and dots/lifetap. Once the fear breaks, root them and finish. Stun will help if they are ranging you, but really all of our control spells get resisted too much and just dont last long enough. Once you get undead tide, it's a LOT easier as long as fear lands. That spell does a lot of damage and gives you time to use more control spells that might have gotten resisted. The worst class is a rogue because they can interrupt and stun you so much. Really nothing you can do if you dont see them coming. I vote for tracking totems =) They have totems for every other advantage in pvp so why not?

Necro's own just about every class 1v1.

Especially since track is a radar. If someone ought to have a radar of everything around them its mages! Not to mention track being a huge thing for pvp.
