Where could one find the most information on Sul'Dal, or the Sand Elves? My friend wishes to learn more about his culture and where he had descended from, but it seems like, like the Sul'Dals themselves, the books have eventually faded away.

I have so far found very minimal information, and would still love to find anything else. Maybe I could twist some of it into a song, perhaps?

I thank those who give help ahead of time!

Some of the Sul'Dal lore can be found among the grains of sand in the Desert of Ro, where their mighty empire once existed. I hear the Silent City even has references to the lesser gods and goddesses they worshipped.

The best way to learn is to complete the Peacock questline. The majority of it is soloable after 55.

The story of the Silent City is found here:

http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read.php...=dof_1001tales3

The peacock questline does have more insight into the fate of Ahket Aken ( Silent city) and I definitely recommend doing it. It's very fun and has alot of interesting lore.

The Sul'Dal and the Sand Elves are two different things. The Sand Elves were in EQ1, and were Elddar Elves who stayed behind in Takish'Hiz to try and fight back the sand... they ended up stuck in the city and used geomancy to incorporate sand into their bodies.

The Sul'Dal are undead Elves who live in the Silent City (which is not Takish'Hiz).

While Takish'Hiz exists in the lore, it's questionable that the sand elves themselves are as well, so "Sul'Dal" could mean "Sand Elf" too.

Not that having the name Sul'Dal mean Sand Elf makes much sense... wouldn't the name have originated before the city was destroyed by undeath (which would have been before the arrival of the sands)? Unless they were named by some explorer who happened to know some form of Elvish, and then we (as adventurers) somehow learned of this name.

Well Miragul's Menagerie, The Rujarkian Orcs, and the Mistmoore Catacombs were mentioned in the game's lore long before LDON arrived too.

I'm afraid I can't think up any particular instances right now, but I'm 100% certain that the Rujarkian orcs were mentioned in various tidbits of lore before LDON came out.

Catacombs...... hmm ok maybe not, but it's not based off anything from it's LDON lore, what with the lesser inferior vampires who were thrown out of the Castle and forced to live underground. But don't you think that a castle up on top of a cliff would have a cave system underneath?

Also, I think it's pretty reasonable to think that once Mistmoore got back to his castle from his trip to godhood or whatever he might do some cleaning up in the catacombs... removing what he felt he no longer needed.

As far as Sul'Dal meaning "sand elves" it's fairly unlikely when you look at what other elvish words use "Sul." We have Anashti Sul and the Ewer of Sul'Dae which both have to do with eternal life/undeath.

Like Rapha said, most likely, Sul'Dal means "Elf of Sul" refering to their goddess, Anashti Sul, as the Ewer of Sul'Dae is also her Ewer, or perhaps Sul is another word for void or oblivion, as these two words seem to also be often used with the peacock goddess. I, for one, would like to know more about her!

hmmm. Maybe Sul means... death. "Death Elf." "Anashti of Death". "Ewer of (life through) death" or something.
