Ok, brief bio : Played for about a year at games release, attained 50 and my prismatic. Quit then until PvP server came out, played for about 2 months and then quit because, for a number of reasons I was just not feeling it. Gave WoW a try, played vanguard for a bit, just came back a few weeks ago to EQ2. Now, upon coming back I loved all the changes to PvP, to crafting, to the game. Very very sweet changes I think, but this most recent change has just basically cut my desire to play in half. With regards to harvesting. A: with the market falling as fast as it did, I lost a bunch of money spent last week on rares to gear my char. B: everyone will all be fully geared with mastercrafted armor now, yes fabeled is better, but theres still alot of people running around in treasured, why do we want everyone to have exactly the same thing, that was 1 thing I thought eq2 had over WoW, was differences in attire/gear. Lots of different combinations, but making rares THAT easy to harvest, you just really narrowed it all down. C: the market is a joke now, everything even fabeled items are dropping a ton in price, I mean why spend a few plat on a nice fabeled weapon when for like 15gold you can buy and have an ebon 1 made, fabeled is'nt 3plat better then mastercrafted ebon. Theres hundreds of cobalt and xegonite clusters for under 10gold a pop, yes those rares were in the mid 20s since I came back, but dropping to 1-2gold apiece is seriously going to happen at this rate. Last week feysteel was still averaging 70gold apiece. Tons of it for 20-30gold apiece now, same with steel and ebon. Alkali and Spongy loams have gone from 2plat to 60gold and there not stopping there, let me assure you. I mean why buy a master spell when loams are that cheap? I like to aspire to be better myself, but masters and fabeled arent THAT much better then mastercrafted or legendary. Hopefully you realize the damage you caused here sony, it was perfect, the game was perfect, you didnt need to change a [Removed for Content] thing, I and 3 of my friends have come back from vanguard to play, and we were in love again, with eq2. I got 1 friend who seriously harvested about 3 hours every morning to make his money, he feels like he has been robbed of his time now, the last 2 mornings he harvested more rares then he has the last few weeks. I just dont get it. /shrug Anyway, I am going to keep playing, for awhile anyway, still having fun with other aspects of the game, hopefully you dont mess around with anything else too much~

I understand how you feel about the new 'rare' drop rate. I picked up 32 rares in about 3 hours of harvesting in EL, so I knew something was up. I agree that the market prices on the rares falling is pretty drastic, but not sure the numbers are entirely accurate... less than 10 gold each? Last I checked it was still pretty expensive... and in addition, Domino (who has been doing an awesome job) has noted the rates will be tweaked a bit again soon, although rares will still be a little less rare. On the other hand, I think a big part of their purpose in changing the rarity of rares is to allow players without level 70 characters already to more reliably afford better gear. While rares on my server have dropped quite a bit, they are still up there, but coming closer to being within reach of a new player trying to better equip themselves. I think Handcrafted gear still serves a purpose as 'starter' armor for a tier, especially for new players. My only concern, which I think I may share with you, is that Mastercrafted will become the 'standard' with which all players will be required to be in. This has been the case, however, especially for tanks in my opinion, and there really isn't much of a 'choice' in regards to different attire/gear (as you compared to WoW) - for the lower tiers, it seems that Mastercrafted (or better quested items) is the only optimal thing to wear. The choices get better towards the end-game, in my opinion, but it still isn't exceptional. I think the game is still great - I don't think this change, however short or long it may last, will ruin the game.
I keep a lot of rares in stock. I still agree with the changes. I think money in the game is hard to come by with some people. I didn't feel good about lowering my stock prices to just above the rare price to move stuff. I won't make any money off them. I do agree that some of the rare priced goods were too much. I get a feeling about selling stuff for a value. I'm not sure that 2ish plat for acrylia items is good. Seems there was some out of whack prices in the mastercrafted market but who knows. I'm trying to move stuff for the current rare prices although I bought them for more.
I personally liked the change to the drop rate, I know its going to change again slightly, but not back to the way it was. I think people make too much money from selling rares, its nice to see them at a reasonable price. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
