Getting tire of waiting on Vanguard repairs. I've decided to give EQ2 another shot. I played EQ1 from day one until Vanguard released. I only tried EQ2 briefly at launch because my system then was lacking power. My question is what is a good solo character to play in EQ2. Much of time online is at odd hours so I'm not always able to group but still want to play. If you're not on a trial, consider playing on an English Euro server or vice versa if you're already in Europe to have a better population during the times you're on. All classes can solo to some degree. Some take longer to kill things than others but they can all solo. My first character was a Swashy and she rocks soloing. Another good one are Bruisers. The counterparts to these two classes would do well as well but I'm biased to the formers as I have those classes myself.

Swashbuckler sounds interesting. Is that a Piratey Rogue?

For solo, I highly suggest something like a Fury (competent healers, and good DPS), Brawler (good DPS, abilities like Feign Death, and they just seem 'fun' ), and Summoners (good DPS and very self-sufficient). All of the above are also great in groups - go figure. One thing to note though is that any subclass can solo - some are just better than others. My choices are above are based on what I've read and heard, as well as my own experience. What is most important is you pick something you enjoy, and that you find entertaining to play! Good luck, and safe hunting! Edit: Oh, and welcome back!

It has a good mix of US, Asian, Australian and New zealand players. That may help if you play at odd hours.

btw; Welcome back!!!!

EQ2 is very different from Vanguard or EQ1 in terms of solo vs. group content. In EQ2 it is more about what conent you are playing then with what class. The game is very well split between solo, heroic (group), and raid content with a loose rule of thumb being that most overland zones are designed for solo play while most dungeons are designed for group play. Even within zones there are certain areas populated by solo content and other areas that contain heroic content.

The classes are very well balanced such that *any* class can solo pretty much as easily as any other. Don't let anyone tell you different. I havs a *lot* of alts and can solo equally well on any of them. The methods used to solo each class are quite different and some classes are much better equiped to handle certain types of heroic content while soloing then others but if yiou stick to solo content in your level range you should do uqually well no matter what class you choose.

So choose a class based on what you want to play and how you prefer to play rather then which class you think will solo better.

If you like to get up in a MoBs face then go with a brawler or paladin or another fighter based class

If you like to melee but not necessarily a head to head combat then choose a scout based class. My first EQ2 character was a Ranger and when soloing I can sometimes drop a MoB with ranged attacks before it even gets a chance to touch me.

If you want to fight groups of MoBs all at once then go with a Necro, Coercer, or Illusionist. I have the most fun with my Necro fighting 5 or more Mobs at once using a careful combinarions of DoTs on each target combined with AoE lifetaps, signle target lifetaps, and my tank pet.

If you like to kill stuff from range then go with a Summoner, Wizard, or Warlock.

I can't think of a specific style of play for priest types but i can tell you I play a Mystic, Fury, and Templar and enjoy soloing all three of them with different tactics.

If you like to melee, monk or bruiser is the way to go for soloability. They can take hits, deal damage, and feign death if you screw up.

The easiest is Necromancer or Conjurer. You can watch T.V., drink a beer, play foosball with your feet, whistle the national anthem and blast through enemies while you dream about Jessica Alba.

I think all classes are easy to play. I have a seemingly maxed out necro and he is easy to play. I don't know if I could play foosball at the same time.

Summoners are a breeze to solo, I actually quit my conjuror because it was just so boringly easy. Brawlers are fun to solo, FD cuts down on the risk and you can farm names easy for money. Enchanters have been my favorite for soloing, more of a challenge but once you get the hang of it its fairly safe.

cniles wrote:
Swashbuckler sounds interesting. Is that a Piratey Rogue?
Pretty much. It's the good aligned counterpart to Brigand. Their biggest hitters are back attacks but they also have a stun attack that you can use to make them sit still a moment while you maneuver behind them for the big hit(s). Swashy's are NEVER still during combat. You are constantly moving around your prey. The thing I like most about Swashy is it's a Scout class but is able to take hits like no other (Brigands can as well of course being their counterpart). Even though Rangers/Assassins wear the same armor type, they are really less meaty and can't take hits as well. I've never tried the Bards so not too sure about them. So, being a scout and able to solo well has two perks. You can solo to your hearts content but when you're ready to group or raid, you've got a place there and can really dish it out. Plus, people hardly ever say no to a Swashy/Brigand in their group/raid. I fear for my Bruiser because raiding with my Swashy has shown me that there are never many Brawlers in raids. Only a token one or two and that's it. Of course, if you're the lucky Brawler in a raid, anything that drops for those classes you have little to no competition for. lol
