I've been using the harvesting macro I got from a thread on this forum, where all the harvesting tools are incorporated into one macro. It works great and is very convenient. So, I just bought the overclocked harvesting tools and want to set up the same type of macro with them, but it's not working. When I get to the second step of the macro, where I drag and drop the harvesting tool into its slot, I get a message that this is "not a supported macro step." Anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong?

That is very strange, I just set this macro up like a day ago and it works beautifully. I know this wasnt any help to you =/

Not sure if this will help you or not, but I noticed that all the new macros I create with the /target command for harvesting don't work. I found out that you do not need the /target anymore, it will automatically taget the nearest npc when you do the /usea command.

ZeyGnome, do you mean that on the line where I have the target command, I would replace it with /usea -- and then what? I know nothing about setting up macros, and only followed the instructions I found here to set up the one I'm using now. BTW, my old macro -- with the "target" command -- does still work for me. It's just that I want to use the new, improved tinkering tools. I really don't understand this stuff.... Help, anyone?

You are doing it right.

Step 1: target nearest npc

Step 2: equip item

Step 3: /useability [skill here] command or just add the Use Ability field and drag over the icon here.

I blame it on the tinkering contraption you are trying to use, but then I would cos I'm a wood worker and they're stealing my business! Just posting to say that I created a harvesting macro for the wood worker based tools last Friday on one toon and again on Sunday on another, and the process you are trying appears identical to what I used (and am harvesting with successfully). What I would suggest is to try and drop something else into the equip slot (wood worker harvesting tool, a totem, a hex doll - something we already know that works) and that way you can narrow down whether it's a bug in macroing or a bug with macroing the tinkered tool. Won't solve your problem but might help identify exactly what the problem is.

No its not the contraption as I just set up a second macro using the overclocked tinkering tools and it worked like a charm. So I am not sure what the deal is.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. I was trying to drag the item from a hotbar, rather than from inventory. That doesn't work. Geez, I can be such an idiot...
