So one of my favorite things to do in big games is explore and I was wondering if it is fun to explore in Everquest 2. Back when I played WoW I found that exploring wasent much fun because everything looked mostly the same and there was realy nothing to find.

So is it better in Everquest 2? Can you find intresting areas? Like ancient ruins and magical places and floating islands and other fun things?

From little things like a small hidden crypt in a graveyard outside of Freeport that is a one room instance but could easily be missed if you didn't look carefully (it's just a cracked coffin you can click on) to a genie lamp sitting on a beach in the Sinking Sands that you can enter and meet the genie who lives inside there are plenty of small touches.

There are definitely some big set piece things to explore too. The floating islands in Kingdom of Sky (some even chained together with monsterously huge chains) are something to see. Travelling to Lavastorm and slowly working your way toward the heart of an active volcano while your entire view is covered in heat shimmer is impressive.

It's not to say there aren't plenty of standard issue dungeons that get repetitive, but the amount of content to find and do in EQ2 is pretty impressive. If you take your time and look around and make it a point to do quests, read the lore, and go different places I think you'll be very happy.

Sounds like it will be real fun to go exploring in EQ 2. How soon can I leave the area outside the the starting towns and start exploring the world? So far I'm lvl 17

Oh, also this might not be about exploring but I'v seen people on flying carpets all arround the place and my question is, Can they realy fly into the air? I'v seen loads of people on them but they always fly arround on ground level

The flying carpet is available from a quest in the Sinking Sands when you hit level 47, or there is a carpet you can buy but I'm guessing you couldnt afford it if you are level 17, dont worry about it just yet. The carpet does not fly, it merely hovers.

I hit lvl 24 last night on my first character and yes...exploration seems to be quite fun.

I tried WOW and the movement was so slow, the game seems to flow like a river of tar in my opinion. EQ2 seems so far to have a much wider array of creatures and places to go AND you can get there much quicker. This sluggishness of movement..even after you get mounts..really did ruin exploration for me in WOW.

EQ2 also has better placed revive points, ie one is always a reasonable distance from where you might have died at any given time...at least in the low levels where you are slow (though never as slow as relative wow movement speed). An example is the instances in wow, you die and end up back at some [Removed for Content] city, while in EQ2 you spawn at the door. Little things that make it less time consuming and more fun to scout around.

I would have said the opposite. There are a large variety of different landscapes in WoW. Perhaps too many? EQ2 has more realism, certainly, although you can't just stroll through the whole world in one go. In EQ2 you have to load each different area.

Anyway, after a week playing EQ2 I'm thinking about cancelling my Warcraft account. I like the game, but EQ2 has much more depth, I feel much more attached to my character already. And the community is so much better!
