My husband and I have recently re-joined EQ2 after quiting shortly after launch. We like to play together, as I'm sure a lot of other people have RL friends/family they like to play with. We are starting most of our chars in Kelethin but not all "good" and neutral races can start there. So I tried today to move my Kerra to Kelethin to fight with my husband's character only to find that this is really hard for a level 9 char. I got to Butcherblock with a quick ride but I died twice trying to get to Gfay before just heading back to Qeynos in defeat. Having to beg for a port at a level where we know no-one is frustrating. When we started chars in Neriak and wanted to play a freeport-based character it was a simple 2 carpet ride trip to get to Darklight Woods from freeport in relative safety at level 7.

I know there are a few threads about travelling to Kelethin being hard, but I think the devs should address this issue particularly for lowbies who want to explore the new city together.

And how would a newbie/lowbie know how to do that? I asked for help in the level 1-10 chat and overall was told "stay on the road" or "get a port"? The trip from freeport took a "use the carpet" response and 2 carpet zoning clicks. Way easier and newbie/lowbie freindly.

If you ask nicely, the eq2 community can be very helpful.

If you have the DoF expansion, you can get to BBM, at least, much faster by taking the carpets. Click on the one in Qeynos Harbor go to Sinking Sands. Go to the bottom of that arch you zone in on, and to the left is another carpet. Right-click on it and choose to go to BBM. Skips the whole Antonica/Thundering Steps saga.

Once in BBM, make sure you get the quest from the Griffon Master so you don't have to go through the headache next time you visit. Then start your way across. You'll probably die a few times, but getting that quest done means you don't have to go through that headache again and can rapidly go back to Qeynos as needed and be back in Greater Faydark in short order.

Now if you want to get real adventurous, go the Lesser Faydark route. I've done this with my characters in the 20s. I generally die a couple of times making the attempt, but by going to 3rd person point of view and zooming way out, I can dodge most of the danger.

If you have not uncovered the map (Assuming you are like me and do not use the downloadable map add-on from EQ2interface) it can be a difficult trip the first time. Three Fae around level 17 or so made their way across Butcherblock when EoF was still virgin teritory. Once you do know the way, I ran a level 7 Monk to Greater Faydark without issue. If you don't want to use the in-game maps, you can always print a map. (Ah the days of Muse and the original EQAtlas, I still have a 3 ring binder of printed maps somewhere). Anyway here's a map you can use as reference. http://eq2.gamepressure.com/maps.asp?ID=140 Maybe have it up on your Husband's computer and have him guide you through. You'll want to head north till you get to Kaladim, then east to Greater Faydark. Stay to the roads and as was suggested, play in as wide a camera mode as possible by scrolling all the way out so you can better see your surroundings.

It was definitely a rough challenge the very first time I ran a lowbie character across but doing it once makes things plenty easier on the following trips. I've ran level 1 characters back and forth no problem. There are only 2 trouble spots I can see when running from BBM Docks to G Fay. The first is once you ascend the cliff, past the erudite NPC and make your way left (or north), there is one wandering chick there and 1 wandering spider. Those you can dodge if you let them pass. Now once you are through that, there is a cliff to the left going up (don't go that way), and there is a pass in the middle you will need to go across. This pass is devoid of anything and a good place to restore your power if you need to. The second challenge is between this pass and to Kaladim ruins as there are floating stingers that are aggro and gorillas too. These you can also dodge by skirting around them and towards the dwarf NPC wandering around a hill of goats. Once you are pass these two, its clear sailing to G Fay.

Don't give up so easy, it's not really hard. I play alone, and have run 3 toons over at lvl 1, I'm usually lvl 3 by the time I get there due to exploration discovery. If you just stay on the path, you can avoid most of the mobs. And even if you die, so what? The first time I ran it, I had no clue where to go, and probably died 10 times. At those levels, who cares?

Could you get a wizard to portal you there?

You could ask one of the many people I always see standing around the docks to escort you. Me, I just stealthed and ran around the zone, figuring that, if the monster levels started getting higher, I was going the wrong way...
