I've just returned to EQII and found that I get the following error within the first few minutes of game play:

<verify> D:testeq2frameworkcoredevicessrcDirectX9RenderDevi se.cpp(2171): DirectX Error. (E_OUTOFMEMORY)

What happens is the game uses up over 500MB of physical memory then once I move around it will then use up what's left and then error out with about 55MB memory left.

Here's what I've tried to do to fix the issue so far:

Turned off most of the high memory processes -- Didn't help

Set the EQII performance to BALANCED -- Didn't help

Reformated my computer and only loaded iTunes, EQII, and Trend (virus protection) -- Didn't help

Followed the steps outlined in the KB article (uninstalled ATI drivers, updated my intel chipset drivers, installed latested ATI drivers) -- Didn't help

<a
*sigh* I posted about this a few weeks ago here: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=373847

Actually, that was the 2nd post I made after I was frustrated because I'd taken the time to list all of my system information and got no response from any TSR. This is apparently an error message that a lot of us are getting and so far SOE has been unhelpful. No updates, no ideas, no ways to fix, no explanations, no possible reasons... nothing. Unless I'm missing it somewhere.

I've been playing LotR online at max settings and experienced no error messages. I log onto EQII and with settings turned down to "Extreme Performance" (unacceptable since I should be able to run in at least "balanced&quot I STILL crash with this "DirectXRenderDevice/OutofMemory" error message.

Some people here will attempt to be helpful but everything they told me to do, you have already done.

Meanwhile, SOE remains silent.

Good luck... if you find a solution would you please let us know so the other growing multitudes of disgruntled EQ players with this godforsaken error message can go back to playing the game? Hi all! I am getting this error, too. And last night, it crashed my system, and I temporarily lost my monitor. (The computer was on but not actually running.) But I have a question for all of you? How many of you are running EQ2 Maps? As of today, I have updated my drivers, microsoft .NET framework, and DirectX.

I've had this same error on and off for the last 12 months. It depends entirely on what zone I am in. I've found that Neriak and Darklight Woods will cause my computer to crash with this error at some point - the time to crash does vary - sometimes 10 minutes, other times a few hours. I used to get this error a lot in the underground city zones (Down below, Freeport sewers etc). Since I stopped using EAX sound, these zones do not crash anymore. However, Neriak and Darklight still do. I've done web searches on and off with this error and I can remember seeing a thread about some EA game that people were getting the same error in. It was "fixed" by turning off EAX and using the Dolby software renderer. EA were supposedly going to release a patch to fix the problem. If this is completely true, then SOE need to release a patch. I know of 4 people in the guild I am in that suffer from this problem also, to a varying degree. I know of people with 1Gb or RAM and others that have 4Gb of RAM in their machines and still get the problem. Others have the absolute latest graphics card drivers, while others are using older drivers and still get the problem. Yet others again have minimal detail in game whereas others (like me) use High or Very High detail and refuse to lower it as it doesn't make any difference (I'd rather have some eye-candy before I crash). I've tried all sorts of different things to get this error corrected but now I really am starting to think this is either a DirectX problem in which SOE need to fix in EverQuest 2 (something to do with the way EQ2 communicates with DirectX and hardware) or it is something else that causes the problem in EQ2 that manifests itself as a DirectX error. Seriously, if DirectX were the absolute cause (i.e. Microsoft has to fix it), don't you think we'd be seeing this error ALOT more in other games out there? It's high-time SOE took notice of this problem. Im sure there are a lot of people like me that just "live" with it. The other thing is, run task manager in the background when playing and once it crashes, leave the error up on screen and look at task manager. See how much paged kernel memory is being used. I think you'll find that it will be considerably higher than usual. I can remember reading threads posted on these forums about 6-12 months ago about this error and the error that "EQ2 requested xxxxxxx bytes", where someone brought this same point up and concluded that there might be a memory leak in-game. So, where does the truth lie with this error? SOE?! We need some information on this.

Its not like this is an isolated problem... many people seem to be having it. The only reason I have not quit this game is because Im getting it for free, from the Vanguard offer. Im sorry but a 4 year old game should not be having problems like this. And if you want to give away your game for free to raise your subscription totals, make sure it works properly first. Thanks.

I was getting this same error and fixed it completely by replacing my power supply. Get your hands on a nice thermaltake, yah its a $60-$90 shot depending on what you get but even if it doesn't fix it you have a nice psu that will last you for a long time.

Guess I'll try replacing my memory!

I finally called SOE and via several emails over a few weeks got some tech support. It seems that I had several spyware programs running in the background even though I ran Spybot, Ad-Aware and Yahoo's Anti-Spy AND my Micro-Trend anti virus software. This was some persistant spyware!

I have no clue how to delete the spyware but once the TSR located it for me in my MSINFO, I was at least able to go into Startup and disable those programs so that now they don't load up.

This DOES seem to have helped me with the "out of memory" error message although i still get it on occasion. I do NOT, however, get it every hour now so that makes me feel a hell of alot better.

Thanks for the update... I'll try switching memory sticks.

Morg
