My husband and I just joined EQ2 a couple weeks ago and I have two characters that I am slowly building up. The first week or two I kept switching weapon types, so now both characters have between 30 to 50 points in all three damage types. This is far below all of their other skills that are now over 100. So, I have a few questions...

1.) Is it necessary to train up all three damage types? Or is it best to concentrate on just one type?

2.) Are certain classes better suited for a particular damage type? (example ~ mages might do better crush damage than other classes)

3.) Do certain classes have a better selection of weapons within a particular damage type? (example ~ a paladin might have a difficult time finding crush weapons, but has tons of slash weapons to pick from)

4.) Do fast weapons do more damage over time because fewer hits are interrupted or blocked?

5.) Do all two-handed weapons typically do more damage than one-handed weapons?

6.) Is there an advantage to using duel wielding weapons?

7.) What damage type is typically used for duel wielding weapons?

I personally like to skill them all up just incase I see a fantastic item that isn't the same damage type as what I've been using.

2.) Are certain classes better suited for a particular damage type? It seems better these days but that could just be because I am more experienced with the game than I was back then.

4.) Do fast weapons do more damage over time because fewer hits are interrupted or blocked?

This I'll leave mostly to the number crunchers but I believe that it depends on the cast times of your combat arts/spells more than anything else. Some classes using a slow weapon is preferable because they 'lose' less swings between casts.

5.) What damage type is typically used for duel wielding weapons?

You can find any damage type as a duel wield.

Also, keep in mind, that some types of raid creatures are immune to some attacks. The one I can think off the top of my head is the Colagulated Goo creature/s in Deathtoll. One is immune to slashing, one is immune to crushing. So it is always a good idea to keep up all the weapon abilities you can.

And, I have learned, that the one skill you neglect will be the one that you need to wield that really great weapon you just won. Now... if only you could hit stuff with it.

>>>1.) Is it necessary to train up all three damage types? Or is it best to concentrate on just one type?<<<
Many classes don't have access to all three damage types. My mystic, for example, cannot use slashing weapons. He has pretty much always used crushing weapons (staffs and hammers) and his piercing skill lags far behind. On the other hand, you can train up a lagging skill by spending a few hours grinding on grey mobs -- there is a chance for your skill to increase any time you hit and it doesn't appear to be based on the level of your opponent -- in fact, lower level opponents are good because you are more likely to hit them on every swing.
>>>2.) Are certain classes better suited for a particular damage type? (example ~ mages might do better crush damage than other classes)<<<
Now that there are no weapon requirements for certain AA abilities, I've never noticed that one damage type is better than another (although this may vary for specific mob types). The usual issue is that many classes can't use all three damage types.
>>>3.) Do certain classes have a better selection of weapons within a particular damage type? (example ~ a paladin might have a difficult time finding crush weapons, but has tons of slash weapons to pick from)<<<
There seem to be a lot of weapons available of all types. In certain cases, however, your class might not be able to use them all as they might be class-specific weapons.
>>>4.) Do fast weapons do more damage over time because fewer hits are interrupted or blocked?<<<
Fast weapons generally do less damage than slow ones so that in the end the speed doesn't really matter. However, slow weapons have the advantage that they are less likely to be delayed by spell casting or combat arts. The weapon's "delay" determines how often you autoattack. If the autoattack timer runs out and you are in the middle of spell casting or doing a combat art, the next autoattack swing is delayed until you are finished whatever you are doing. A weapon with a long delay leaves plenty of time between swings for casting spells.
>>>5.) Do all two-handed weapons typically do more damage than one-handed weapons?<<<
Typically. Of course there are cases where an excellent 1H weapon does more damage than a crappy 2H one.
>>>6.) Is there an advantage to using duel wielding weapons? <<<
Some classes can use two of them at once. The DW system is changing soon, though, I think.
>>>7.) What damage type is typically used for duel wielding weapons?<<<
I think all three types are available.
