I have just started a wizard and I am only lvl 12 and have 2 AA's but it would be nice in how to spec them to have the most efficient lvlling, I am imagining I will be soloing alot due to everyone else being higher lvl, but any helpful pointers would be appreciated

I am at about the same place as you, I don't really know anymore then you.. but I have searched the forums and read as much as I can. I don't understand most of the numbers behind anything. From what I can tell though if we are planning on doing a fair amount of soloing.. AGI is the tree I plan on doing first. It stand to reason.. if I cast faster.. things die faster.. forget the number crunching. =)

A good start for a new wizard is the int line. The ekstra int count alot towards ekstra damage in the lower levels. Once you get closer to max level respec to some of the normal endlevel specs, depending on what kind of playstyle you perfere. Yours Ithile /wiz bb

Hello Well, I created a Wizard a few months ago (soloed 95%) - here's what I did: - First 10 Points went into Enhance Magi's Shielding (Wizard AA), You'll have a very small ward at first (like 10 points or such), but it scales with your adventure levels and it's very helpful for soloing. - after that I spent 4-4-8-8 in STA line (Sorcerer AA). Less resists, more mitigation and Hitpoints At the moment, my Wizard is Level 60 with 77 AA Points, has like 40% Mitigation and 5500 Avoidance, so he can take quite a few hits and kill almost everything around his level, except from some very nasty caster Mobs. Some will call me crazy, but besides the lines mentioned above I went for Manaburn and maxed out STR line. Another good choice would have been AGI line with it's benefit of much faster casting - but I simply love those big, bold damage numbers And that's why we're playing this game - because we want to have some fun, right?

How quickly does the magi shielding ward refresh itself? I was trying to go down the agi line first but I just keep dying too much so I guess I would respec to try and get the magi shielding maxed first (10 pts)? Also what amount of warding would you get for the full 10pts into magi's shielding? Wizard is a very frustrating solo class, my fury is so much easier and even a templar dies less fighting the same mobs.

I'm a new wizard too (an alt), just hit level 10. Interesting choices, been reading the threads in this forums, here's the summary (as a noob) I've surmised: KoA/Sorcerer tree: STR: hit hard! KaPlow! Take that! AGI: faster! faster! cast faster! move faster! caffeine pills STA: survivability, can take some hits, stay in fight longer WIS: Luke... use the force... do more damage using less power INT: points in INT help power and spell damage, rest helps reduce threat/hate gain, improve defense EoF/Wizard tree: Manaburn strategy: go down the power line to get the manaburn, insta-blast mob for 50% of it's max health! KaPlow! Often used with STR line. Fire/Ice strategy: make your fire/ice spells that much better: cast faster, use less power, increase range, reduce resistability, etc. Often combined with AGI and/or WIS lines. Shielding strategy: survivability, shields take hits, usually used with the STA line. There's no right or wrong way, it's all based on your game preference. Do you wanna hit hard, hit fast, BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! Drop that sucka! And don't mind burning through all your mana/power quickly? If so, the manaburn/STR/STA line is for you. This appears common for solo play. Do you want to stretch out your power, being as efficient as possible, to last a long fight, killing many mobs? The Fire/Ice/AGI/WIS lines are popular too, not just for grouping, but solo players pick this too. As for me, this isn't my main, so I have the gold to buy +INT items. I'm definitely going to solo for a while. Personally, I 'm of the opinion that us squishy mages shouldn't be hit at all! Instead of trying to survive, I'm going for speed and avoidance. The AGI line is where I'm gonna start plopping my points, not sure how deep yet. Will eventually pursue the fire/ice lines, and the WIS sounds good too, no clue yet how will allocate to those. Sure, I can't avoid everything, and will get killed alot. All mages do, we're squishy! We can die 10 times between repairs LOL and still be at 100% Just my 2 cents, I'm still learning too...

At Level 60 it wards around 370 points of damage (forgot the exact number), at 70 it should be around 450 points, I guess. And my Wizard experience is completely different from yours. I think the Wizzy is one of the best soloers (and I've got a 70 Monk, 70 Swashy and 39 Fury too). The beginning levels might be a bit frustrating because of massive root resists, but things improve rapidly in your twens.

I guess my problem is that I can only take single mobs but the quests I need to do at the low levels routinely involve 3 grouped mobs. My wiz just cannot stand there long enough to take them all out. My fury can easily do those with a regen tossed in there, and Im sure my templar could too. I'm talking under level 20 as I have no high level chars yet. Also has anyone got any advice on manashield? I was hoping to take it since its only 2 pts and it absorbs 3 damage per 2 mana now. I assume this means when its up you are not interupted by damage either? It's 30 sec duration with only a 1.5 minute reuse.

Thanks for the advice on the magi shielding ward, I respecced and now I can actually solo pretty well, made 3 levels in a couple hours already. As for the not being able to take some magic casting mobs, why not take the wisdom tree and get the ward there that absorbs only magic damage? I'm planning on going stamina, wisdom. Will get myself manashield and then the lower mana cost effect, that will help preserve the mana so there is more to use as a shield. Also in the wisdom line you get an increase in base spell damage which on paper apperas to be better than increased crit chance.

To be honest I think it's down to level, having master and adept 3 level spells, and good gear.

I am a 67 wizard with full mastercrafted and fabled, masters in most spells and adept 3 in the rest. I have 78AA but they are invested in Str/Agi, manaburn, and improved reuse time for ice comet etc. Int is mid 600's.

I have no problems at all killing heroics even several levels before me. I dont even have to bother rooting them. I have 50%+ mitigation for all resists, 34% avoidance and about 28% mitigation. If either manaburn or fusion is up, ordinary heroics die in 2 spellcasts. They dont live long enough to need rooting. If no timers are up, Ill rootx2 the mob, debuff, drop ice comet/ball etc and should a root break I stun it. If its a caster i keep it knockdown/stifled. Nameds just take longer. I have about 16 points of flowing thought and never have mana problems either. Wizard is a lot of fun. Im sure the sta and shield AA's help for hard named mobs, but certainly you dont need them for normal heroics.

Nice post. Does anybody else have any further tips-n-advice for allocating the first few AA points for a new Wizard? The Manaburn path seems very appealing to me followed by the STR line. Any advice against that? Also once you get your familiar, what weapon do you suggest? I really like to use two 1H weapons for that little extra stats, but I like the crit chance that usign a staff brings with the familiar. Any ideas on that? Are there any threads on what type of gear a young wizard should be going after from L.10-30? Are there any crafting choices that might benefit a wizard? I already have a sage, tailor, jeweler, woodworker, provisioner on other characters. Any advantages is getting into Alchemy?

my wizzy is lvl 40 now with 40 AA. i took sta line for manashield and the boost to casting skills. sure is nice to be able to solo orange mobs i rarely bother with the root either, even for a group of heroics. i am able to pop manshield and finish them off with mana left over so not worried about it. casting coldshield on yourself is easily the best thing to do when starting a fight too. all 3 hits from it add up to about 1200 damage give or take. that is adept 3 at lvl 40 tho. i also put 10 points into enhance shielding, and am starting down the manaburn line. after tha i do plan to take str all the way down also.
