Just started playing a few weeks ago and I feel like I have already achieved veteran burnout (I.E: nothing looks fun any more). I have loved the game and I could see myself playing it for a long time, but I just cant bring myself to stay with a character past 25. By the time I get around the low 20s it seems like I'm already burnt out on the character. I stare at the character create screen for hours on end and just sigh and close EQ2. I have played a 25 Berserker, 22 monk, 18 warlock, and other characters going lower and lower. It seems like I will love a class and then one day I will log on and it will be boring. I've never experienced this so early in a game before. Am I doing something wrong?

That depends... what are you doing? Soloing? Grouping? HQs? Nameds? Crafting? Instance runs? In a guild? Going it alone? Over half the fun of an MMO is the people... in fact, it's an assumption of the industry that other players will provide a fairly large amount of "content" in the way of interactions and such.

I solo a lot but also group a fair amount. I harvest a LOT and rake in fair amounts of money. On my monk I had 2 plat before I hit level 12. I play with real life friends and we group for instances and other things. I was in a great guild on my Berserker but my monk is basically going solo. I have been crafting on both my monk and berserker up to 20ish.

Of course there is no need to play just one character... just switch when you get bored of the current one. Youcould also try both good and evil classes, different starting cities etc.

The only other suggestion I have is to think about taking a break from playing for a while. Play something else or don't play any games for a bit if you are feeling burnt out. Everything will still be there when you get back.

I'm guilty of doing the exact same thing. My advice is to find a character class that closest represents your style IRL and stick to it. You may be spreading yourself too thinly among all the guys you have.

Play one guy long enough to start building relationships with other players.

Oh - there's always PVP you can try...

Sounds more like RL depression, prozac or whatever the current med is for that... I do have a RL friend that played eq1 for several years, then played wow till 30ish never could get past that finally a few months ago he made it to 55 but same thing with him he just felt bored overall didn't want to play. Was the same thing with eq2 he just had a bleh feeling. I have had a blast and still have a blast with eq2 from day one playing my origional wizard and playing some other alts. I think some people just simply don't enjoy MMO, if you really aren't enjoying it then don't play. The game should be fun above all else.

Not really inviting to new people, though. I still have fun on my monk when lower twinks try to kill me and I return the favor.

You have to get into the ruins of varsoon levels before the game opens up with longer story line quests and more dungeons to group and explore. You might want to go the solo class vs heavy group dependent class. So when you feel like being alone, (warlock) solo. Templar when you want to group.

Have to say that if your gettin burned out at level 20-25 then your probably not finding "That" particular class that suits your style. Best thing to do is sit down and post here what you want out of a class. You want to be top dps, or healer, or tanking, etc... and include some minor bits and pieces.

For me personally i'm an altaholic and have found almost all classes to be fun. Reason I say "almost all" is the inquisitor class which really isn't that much fun to me. With my warden it's pure straight up healing instead of seeing reactive heals. Could probably play the shaman class, but the cleric class may just not be for me. Most fun I have had is with my level 70 Warden, 70 Shadowknight and 70 Assassin. My SK is one bad [Removed for Content] and can dish out the dps at almost a T2 rate if he goes all out. As for my assassin well being geared and having spent 21 plat to get decapitate, killing blade, evicerate and puncture blade master Is i'm not too surprised. First raid I went on with him I was in the top 3 if not ranked first in the dps parse. *Gives Thumbs Up*

Perhaps its not the class but the choice of race? Try a Ratonga

Maybe it's the lack of content and challenge after running all your characters through the same levels over and over. I don't see how some can lay seige to the enemy gates day in and day out, but some thrive on it. Me, I'm more into harvesting rares to gear everybody up and running solo on the eventual grind up, with PvP thrown in where I find it. Maybe you just need to run a toon into the next tier, start experiencing something new. Can't hurt, right?

No idea whats causing this for you - started a char soon after EQ2 release and I still pay him, gradually levelling and enjoying the game. I did leave the game three times soon after each expansion to combat burn out and do a few rl things, but that just made me come back with more excitement a couple months later.

It took me a LONG time to find the "right" class for me. I tried Fury, Monk, Paladin, Sorceror(back before sub-classes), Necro, and a host more. I liked the game, I liked the mechanics, but I would end up hitting a wall.

Eventually I played a Ranger and that clicks with me.

I'm not saying to try a Ranger, but the right class can make all the difference.

I agree. Find the right class that is for you. I played Warden. Changed to wizard. Then did the Dirge thing. Now, I got them all past level 50 (the dirge is 70 and has tons of raiding gear). But when I came back part time I tried a necro and am totaly enjoying him.

I have played mmos for a very long time and I finally got my first ever character to max level about 8 months ago. I tend to hit humps where I can get multiple characters to a certain level and then feel the need to start over for something new. I think it's the same feeling you are talking about.

Now I've gotten a character to max level I know it can be done and it helps me push through those times when I feel a little burnt out on my character. Sometimes if I get burnt out a bit, a single good group can really regenerate my enthusiasm for the class.

Some of your problem might be choice of class....it was my melee specced inquisitor that finally got me to level 70 and now I also have a 70 brigand. I really enjoyed leveling them both. If you really think you found a class you like, then try to push past a few levels and you'll find some new life when you find some new content that you really enjoy.

Good Luck!
