View Full Version : Game crashes after clicking "Play"
Just reinstalled EQ2 from scratch and after it downloaded all of the patches and clicked the "Play" button I get: EQ2 Client Application Has Stopped Working Snippet from eq2_crash.log: SOEBuild=4272T SOEVersionString=2007/7/31 14:19:00 EVERQUEST2 CRASH LOG ================================================== ================================================ Unhandled exception EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0x75E121F4 Application was trying to read from 0x0000000C Region Begins At: 0x00000000 Region Ends At: 0x00010000 Region Size Is: 0x00010000 bytes Memory Protection: PAGE_NOACCESS (00000001) Memory State: MEM_FREE Memory Type: Free Game Data: SOEBuild: SOEBuild=4272T SOEVersionString: SOEVersionString=2007/7/31 14:19:00 Time at crash: Wed Aug 08 03:50:30 2007 Login Server: none Performance: 3 Game Uptime: 0 seconds Game Was Shutting Down: false Position last frame: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 Zone name: <None> Time in Zone: 0 seconds Previous Zone name: <None> Thread Data: Primary Thread Id: 3048 Current Thread Id: 3048 Current Thread Priority: 0 Memory: Load: 47% Total physical: 1073741823 Free physical: 1073741823 Total pagefile: 2147483647 Free pagefile: 1073741823 Total virtual: 2147352576 Free virtual: 2044588032 Memory Manager: Allocations: 63 Bytes Allocated: 395936 Max Allocations: 63 Max Bytes Allocated: 395936 System Memory Allocated (MB): 4 Limit: 1534 Number of Allocate Calls: 63 Number of Free Calls: 0 I tried running the installer from the webpage and the problem remains. I've also wiped the eq2_recent.ini file. Any thoughts? I'm running Windows Vista x86, Nvidia 8800 GTS 640 meg RAM, 2 gigs of RAM and Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I should note that this is the only game that is giving me any kind of issue. Lord Of The Rings Online works fine, among others. My video card drivers are the latest from Nvidia: ForceWare Release 162 Version: 162.22 WHQL Release Date: July 26, 2007 Operating System: Windows Vista 32-bit Language: U.S. English File Size: 30.3 MB
I'm about to install the DirectX August 2007 update (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detai...le/1037189523/4). So I guess I will see what happens after that. Seriously though, the game is currently 100% unplayable and now I'm feeling like I wasted the $15 to reactivate my account.
Nope, still didn't work. I even tried the latest BETA Nvidia drivers as well...

Well since no one has any ideas I am currently reinstalling Windows XP. We'll see if the problem persists.

If still crashing we will need the information from *** Read before posting *** to help with troubleshooting the issue.
Well it runs now under Windows XP. One thing that I noticed was that as soon as the launcher came up (pre-login) it started patching again. And this time it pulled down an EQ directory among a few others. The initial launcher under Vista did not download these directories. I'm pretty sure that the launcher was looking for one of these files under Vista but since they did not exist it just shut down the client. I did *not* reinstall EQ after reinstalling Windows XP. I had it loaded on a second hard drive and did not require a reinstall. This was how I noticed these "new" directories being downloaded. Again, they were downloaded pre-login. For some reason under Vista I did not receive the entire patch.

I have the exact same problem as the OP. eq2 running on my older computer with WindowsXP since nearly 3 years wihout problems. Now i bought a new PC with Windows Vista Home Premium, installed eq2 from my old discs and let the patcher download for 7 hours. After the download was complete and i pressed the PLAY button a Microsoft window pops up saying "eq2 client application has stopped working".

Has someone found a solution to this problem?

The problem is around since weeks that a brand new install of the EU version gets broken every time under Vista. Only solution currently is to switch to US version which is working without problems
