There's no definitive guide that I'm aware of, but EQ Traders has a fairly complete "fashion guide" that shows the tailor made clothing and armor, mostly.

A quick rundown is that the game currently has 7 "tiers" of levels. 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, etc. Within each tier there is a "handcrafted armor" and a "mastercrafted armor" for each of the 4 armor types. As you progress in tier, "specialized" styles of armors become available too.

A quick breakdown off the top of my head (and all descriptions are IMO) follows --

For cloth, you have:

Regular -- moderate STA, WIS, INT, health and power. "all-purpose mage" armor

Tranquil - high INT, high power, high resists. -- "min/max sorcerer" armor

"Laborer Name" (architect, producer, dillettante, etc) - med-high INT and STA, moderate health and power, moderate resists. - "Solo/group mage armor"

For leather you have:

Regular -- Moderate STR, STA, and AGI, decent health and power, okay resists. This is pretty much the "brawler tank armor"

Dextrous -- High STR and AGI -- this is the "min/max dps brawler armor"

Woven -- High STA and WIS -- this is the "druid specialized armor"

For chain you have:

Regular -- moderate STR, STA, and AGI -- this is the "predator/rogue specialized" type

Melodic -- moderate STR, AGI, and INT -- this is the "bard specialized" type

Reverent -- moderate STR, STA, and WIS -- this is the "shaman specialized" type

Brigandine -- moderate STA, WIS, and INT -- this is the "priest specialized" type

For plate you have:

Vanguard -- Moderate STR, STA, and AGI -- this is the "warrior specialized" type

Devout -- Moderate STR, STA, and INT -- this is the "crusader specialized" type

Plate -- Moderate STA, INT, and WIS -- this is the "cleric specialized" type

Then of course there's all the various dropped and quest rewards. They mix stats up all over the place, so you just gotta look at them to see what works best for your character if and when you find them.

Every time you hit lev 10,20 30 etc...you can use the next tier material up.

Generally if you want to have the rare armour you have to wait till 12, 22, 32 etc

are there always people crafting?? i'm not too much into the crafting thing, i tried it, did it for a long time and can't seem to get into it, drives me nuts to sit here and just craft and craft just to get to a level of stuff that i want, very very time consuming
