I'm up to lvl 40 alchemy, and it's making me no money. That's it.. nothing. I made like 10 Adept III's just 2 days ago and nothing will sell. Is it cuz people will just pop for the Master if they're going to spend money on it anyway? In any case, i'm just not making anything. Is this normally a wasteful profession for everyone?

the sale of Ad 3's was always slower at lower levels, and has even dwindled down at the top tiernow. Once the expansion launches there should be an increase in ad 3 sales, at least for a few months. I always find that potion/poison sales are best for the alchemist. But, as for most trades, its hard to make money until you reach the top tiers. Stick it out until you reach 70, you should be able to make coin then

The bloodlines spells are profitable, particularly Devastation Fist.

Making Adept 3's is always risky because it's hard to tell which ones are needed and which are not at any given time. I usually hang onto rares and use them for commissions or else sell them outright. Often once a rare is commited to a particular use it looses the value it originally had when it could be made into anything the buyer wants. Even if there is a need for the spell they are usually slow sellers. I find that I have a better chance of selling my Alchemist's products if I look for voids in the App 4 market and make a few of those, plus anything that is unusual or hard to get, such as Bloodlines, which was mentioned above. They won't sell for the nice price you think you should get for the rare but in the long run they will probably add up to more. When you look for pricing remember to check the entire range of each spell. If the Master 1 is going for cheap you won't sell your Adept 3 for more and if the Adept 1 is cheap the Appr4 isn't worth brokering.

To the OP, I don't even make Adept 3's unless someone commissions me to make them for them. As the other posters stated, it's just too hard to guess what will sell and what won't at a particular time. I look at our ability to make Adept 3's as just a bonus. I'm an alchemist so my specialty is brewing nasty liquids!

And just a note, your big sellers should be the mastercrafted potions/poisons. I find it hard to move the handcrafted. It seems that if people are going to go to the trouble of buying them, they want the best they can get for their level.

I think it is also the case that experienced players understand the advantage of carrying potions, esp for raiding (tho the raid groups usually pass out stuff made by their in-house alchy) and those who would buy lesser quality don't see the use for them in the first place. Personally, I carry both qualities so as not to waste the "good stuff" when a little less will do, and use them freely since they are so cheap to make. 8^)

You really should start the game with a couple to at the very least let you know they exist. Back pre-lu24 when many players were talking about how hard it was to solo, I thought about DS potions and the like and just how underused they were.I say pre-lu24 because too many of those options were removed from lower tiers for recipe "progression". Besides the oft mentioned restoration of some of those options, I'd really like to see a larger effort to give exposure to newer(and in as many cases practical not so newer) players the breadth of their play options.

I have a lvl70 alchemist who makes money from mastercrafted potions and poisons, and also makes adept 3s on spec. I've made pretty good money by sticking to the top two tiers and, most important, checking the broker to see what else is available for that spell. If there are lots of adept 1s and masters for that spell, I don't bother. You also have to be willing to leave the spells on the broker, maybe for a long time. I just put them on the broker at the price I want and leave them there and, so far, eventually they have sold. For me, though, the biggest benefit of having a fully leveled alchemist is that my toons are all stocked up on good potions and my assassin has as much of the best poisons as he wants.

Be aware also that lvl 30 - 35 masters flood the market from RoV farmers. Masters of this level are consistently the cheapest masters on the broker on the Runnyeye server. This may affect your alchy at his current level.

Become an Alchemist on the PVP servers - where your potions, poisons and adept IIIs will continually sell - at profit.

Just a suggestion.

Lower level tradeskill tend to make less money because there are not that many people in that tier.. In the tier 7 market though you can make some money
