Hello! I am quite new to the game but so far have enjoyed it. I have a few questions though. I have my own assumptions about them but I thought it was better to ask and be sure. If they sound dumb it is because... well, they are dumb. But it is better to be an elucidated dumb person than a ignorant one in my opinion. So here it goes: 1. You can have only one house per character, correct? 2. What is the maximum number of characters a guild can have? Is there even a limit? 3. In the Troubador FAQ (on the troubador forum here) there is a dps rank of the classes. In that rank troubador/dirges have more dps than paladins/shadow knights. It seems the rank comes from july 2005. Is that still true? I assume that if they have more dps than paladins/shadow knights compensate that with more survivability. 4. How is the dps of a paladin compared to the shadow knight? Better? Worse? Same thing? 5. I am an outfitter and noticed that some of my crafting skills give +durability. What exactly that +durability does? Does it make so that the green bar during crafting doesn't decrease as fast as it would if I didn't use it? Or something else? Hmmm... Those are all the questions I can think of now. If I have any other doubt I will be sure to ask. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

Bards are some of the worst DPS in the game. Paladin can put out some DPS, and SK can put out some very respectable DPS. 4. How is the dps of a paladin compared to the shadow knight? Better? Worse? Same thing? SK > Pally. 5. I am an outfitter and noticed that some of my crafting skills give +durability. What exactly that +durability does? If there is a maximum limit, I haven't heard of it. 3. Ignore any DPS rankings of 'tiers' that you see. Those originate from a developer's post, who later said he wished he had never posted them, as there is so much variability due to quality of gear and spells, as well as circumstance, to classify characters that way. 4. Shadowknights > Paladins in terms of dps. Paladin is like a fighter/healer while the shadowknight is like a fighter/mage. 5. Presently the crafting skills that you get from odd-numbered tiers (1, 3, 5, 7) boost progress towards completing the item generally at the expense of the final quality of the item. Durability skills (even tiers) boost durability (the quality of the item) at the expense of progress. I tend to use a mixture of the two most recent tier skills so that I can boost progress till I am close to losing the top quality (pristine) of an item, then use durability to get it back up again. This all might be subject to change in the future as there is a new developer in charge of tradeskilling, and this is an area she said she is interested in making changes.

First off, try not to take the Troubador forums too seriously. There are a lot of people that blow a lot of smoke about HOW EFFING BROKEN!!!! we are. That's not the case but we do have many issues in our solo, group and raid play. As to DPS? In the end game I think that Bards should be on par with Pallys and under SKs. Bards are mostly a support class and make up for their low DPS and survivability with awesome (if somewhat passive) utility. If you want to churn out l33t numbers, don't be a Bard.

Thanks everyone for the answers! They were really helpful. <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> @roces9 I don't want to churn l33t numbers. Otherwise I would have chosen swashbuckler/brigand/assassin. But I do want a class that doesn't take ages to kill anything and doesn't die with a couple hits. So far Shadow Knight seems to fit what I am looking for. But I am in a roleplaying server and for me it is easier to play a good guy. So I am looking other options that can be on the good side.

<p>I am relatively new too. You would be surprised at how well rangers / swashies take a hit. My buddy really enjoys his ranger alot. Good damage plus decent mitigation seems to be par for the course. If you want to tank, a guard is not a bad choice either. Guards deal decent damage while weather hits like the plate machina that they are.</p><p>However, my conjurer does fine too. My pet tanks while I dps / heal pet. My pet is very good at bravely sacrificing himself while I get away if things go bad. Different classes are fun in different ways. I hope you have fun and enjoy EQ2.</p>

Ranged isn't my style, I prefer to be close to the mob. I tested swashbuckler a bit but didn't like all the positioning. Didn't like conjurer much either. I might give guardian a try one of these days though. Anyway, here are a few more questions... 1. This is probably the most stupid question ever asked on this forum but... what the term con means? Like in "mob con heroic yada yada" Just want to be sure I am getting the meaning of it right. 2. I got some items that give status if I give them to some NPCs. If I learned correctly I can only spend status if I am in a guild. So should I save these items, like idols, for when I join a guild and then get the status? Or it doesn't matter? Would turning those items to the NPC give status to the guild too or just personal status? 3. My impression is mods in this game are only to change the interface. Are any mods that can do stuff like the AddOns in World of Warcraft?

Your character 'considers' his/her chances against a mob, the result of which is represented by color. Grey->Green->Blue->White->Yellow->Orange->Red, in increasing difficultly from extremely easy to deadly. 2. You can earn and use status points without being in a guild if you have built up faction with a city group like the Freeport Militia or the Celestial Order. In general, yes, you want to save them to use when you are in a guild, as the guild benefits from them being turned in as well. 3. Mods are only for the interface.

<p>The con system has a bit more than just colour as well. The colour system is simply a level relationship measure, grey being lots of levels lower than you, white being the same level as you through to red being much higher. This type of "con" will change relative to the characters level - so a lvl 12 gnoll will con grey to a lvl 20 but red to a lvl 6.</p><p>You must also look at the "toughness" rating - often mentioned in terms of arrows up or down. Any mob with a three arrow down con will be a very weak representative of his level (and usually found in a group). The relative toughness moves on up to a no arrow up or down (often called an even con) then into the grades of up arrow mobs, culminating in a three arrow up (very tough) mob (excluding epics here before someone brings them up). Mobs with "arrows up" will have a fancy border around their name - depending on the way you have your ui set up. This form of "con" remains the same irrespective of character level - a three arrow up skeleton can be grey through red and still be a three arrow up skeleton.</p><p>A further complication is the individually named mob - look for a specific like "Lord Benfield", or where all of the mobs title has capitalised first letters. These will usually be a tougher example of a standard mob of similar "con"</p><p>Epics have very fancy scrollwork around their name bar and are intended for multigroup battles.</p>
