View Full Version : Tier 8 Furniture: please move away from "Themed" furniture.

Whether you want to admit it or not, the majority of the best furniture in the game are Tier 3, 4, and 5. When Desert of Flames came out, we were suddenly experiencing "Persian/Desert/Ali Baba" themed furniture items. When Kingdom of Sky came out, all the furniture items are suddenly themed towards Kingdom of Sky itself.

I hate Tier 7 furniture. You can't place objects on top of most of the items, and some of them just look ugly.

PLEASE! For that is decent, don't theme all the Tier 8 furniture to have a Rise of Kunark theme. Especially with the addition of Guild Halls, I'd imagine that interior decorating will be needed in order to lower the upkeep on a guild hall (assuming it comes down to it). Give us more "General" furnishings that doesn't have a specific theme to it. The Large Light and Dark Cedar tables that T5 offers are still two of the best tables in the game, simply because we can place stuff on top of them.

Completely agree some of the tier6 and 7 furniture is awful. Acrylia furniture, for example, is just so basic and ugly.

What they need to bring back are paintings. Decorating the walls are just as important as decorating the floors and ceilings.

I have to agree ... BUT ... The reason that you end up with themed additions is that the new artwork is all themed for the expansion. The early tiers are all part of the base artwork. The later teir is mostly from the expansion artwork. without knowing how RoK it goung to actually look, it is hard to say if we will have the clear defined theme that came with KoS. and yes .. More pictures would be nice ... but I want nice dark stone tables(small round)/counters/chairs.

It doesn't matter what ROK furniture looks like. It's still going to be themed after the dungeons and locations we'll be playing in. The problem is that all the good furniture has extremely low status to them, and need to be upgraded.

Sounds to me like what you're really asking for is non-buggy furniture, not really a theme problem. Happily, we are not planning on a "buggy" theme for furniture for T8. And yes, there will be some new furniture from the new expansion style, which I think everyone will expect and want. But there will be a variety of other items also. At this point all I can say is wait and see in beta.

If we can't have a buggy theme for the expansion, can we have a "So hideous only a Troll could love it" one?

My wish would be for some furniture along the lines of "Something that can actually be used by the various phenotypes with emoting" would be most welcome. (e.g. Chairs your character model can SIT in).

Even if it is just furniture in the Taverns and Inns... it would be kind of nice to have the cities be more than unused facades. Except for the Broker and Mailboxes, where do you see anyone actually congregating?

You have this huge amount of very nice looking artwork in the form of virtual "Real Estate" yet it is little more than one of those old western movie sets. We aren't talking rocket science here, 1st generation games like Neverwinter nights and Star Wars Galaxies had this, and they had different phenotypes, so that little excuse doesn't hold water.

So my suggestion for the T8 theme for furniture would be, "Usable Furniture." It makes for the difference between an environment for roleplay and interesting gameplay, as opposed to building 3D dioramas.

And sure some of the content will be buggy when it is pushed to live because soe is incapable of releasing content bug free. But we will be getting new stuff and Im sure that some of it will find a way into everyones home.

What I would really like to see are furniture themes based on racial and regional styles, but spread out over every tier, so your Dark Elf/Neriak theme (for example) would have pieces available from T1 through T8. Interspersed would be pieces that do not really fit in a specific theme, like the Aviak baths or dragon statues from KoS.

Look all over the General, Expansion, and Zone forums.

I'd settle for getting recipe consistency back. I swear in t7 carpenters use more ore and pelts than the armour makers do Please can we go back to wood and roots and make lights on the forge, cloth and rugs on the loom and everything else on the woodworker bench?

In NWN, I've never seen Halflings, Gnomes, or Dwarves sit. I don't think the original campaign has any -- just humans and maybe some Elves or half-Orcs. Can the other races sit properly in the chairs? I know a lot of custom modules allow it. In SWG, the task was accomplished by scaling the avatars during the sitting animation so that, while seated, they're all the same height. This was doable because difference between the shortest species, Bothans, and the tallest species, Wookiees, was not too great. In EQ2, we have Gnomes and Halflings, and we have Ogres and Trolls. (I'm ignoring Fae because it's questionable whether they'd even sit on a barstool.) An Ogre might be almost three times the height of a Halfling; scaling them as SWG does would look absurd. It's also important to note that NWN and SWG both, AFAIK, use the same skeleton for all their races/species. EQ2 does not -- not yet, at least. You may recall they're working on that. I'd say that's a prerequisite for any sort of furniture-interaction, so really, that's got to go in first. Once that's in, who knows -- maybe they'll find a way for it to work.
I will have to agree with the OP. I'm currently leveling up a carpenter and the T3-T5 items blow me away.

Then it occured to me. Why haven't I seen more of these items in people's houses? Oh, that's right, there status values are far too low for people to pay down their weekly status rent. So what do we get? Alot of the same houses, with the DoF and KoS themes.

I probably will loose alot of status maintaining my house to look good, but it will certainly not look like those awful DoF and KoS 0-status maintenance ones
