We'll I finally got bored of the simplistic gameplay of WoW. I want a deeper experience and I've read EQ2 has improved alot lately. I last played it for a few weeks back in Jan of 06'. I purchased the All-In-One Digital Download from Direct2Drive and am installing updates as we speak. I played the Play the Fae trial last night and loved it, it sold me on the game, that in combination with the community and word of mouth of the content. I have a few Questions tho. 1) What server should I roll on? I've heard PvP is great, but im not sure about how the ruleset works in EQ2. I don't wanna get ganked 24/7. 2)What Classes are friendly to a new player? I've always enjoyed DPS classes as well as Tank classes. I love either dishing out massive damage or being the guy in the awesome looking heavy armor standing toe-tot-toe with a big boss. In WoW I most enjoyed my Warlock, My Warrior and my Hunter. 3)Is there player/guild housing options? 4)What is the general community like? I've heard its alot more mature, which would be a nice change from the AVG Age/IQ of 13 on the WoW Servers. 5) How is the content? I'm looking for a deeper more rewarding experience with epic adventures. 6) How well would the game run on my system? Play the Fae ran smooth on High Quality, but the zone seemed rather contained. PC Specs: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (2.2 Ghz) BFG Nvidia 6800 GT Ultra OC 256mb 2GB PC3200 RAM Windows Vista Ultimate x86 Thanks in advance, hope to see you all soon in Norrath!

Welcome! I'll take a shot at answering a few of these...

When you get to the screen that lets you name your character there will be a server list up. The servers with the higher loads will have a higher population at that time of day. They'll be labeled as PVP, RP Preferred or just PvE. I haven't played much PvP myself but I'd suggest starting a few toons on a PvE server to get the hang of things then jumping over to a PvP server when you're feeling adventurous.

I'm not sure if you mean "friendly" as in easy, or as in soloable. As far as easy I'd say maybe a straight fighter or brawler, maybe a wiz/warlock. If you want soloable, I'd say one of the pet classes (Conjuror/Necro), a plate tank (Berzerker/Guardian) or a brawler (Monk/Bruiser). The Wizzies/Warlocks are good too, but you're gonna die a lot until you get the hang of it. Another option would be a Fury... they're a healer that can put out a decent amount of DPS. It was one of my first classes and I found it fun. One advantage is they are of neutral alignment so you can start them in any city.

There's plenty of housing available. No guild halls as of yet, but there are houses that have guild level restrictions and such. Starting housing is located in your racial district (different depending on where your toon starts) and is free for a week with 5 or 7 silver upkeep per week after that. There are threads listing housing options and costs in the forum, just do a quick scan of the stickies in the various boards.

I've been rather impressed overall with the maturity of the community. There are kids out there and I've met several families that play together. However, the majority of folks I meet are able to spell (when they wish ) and generally friendly. Not sure if this is true for the PvP servers.

The content is pretty deep. You'll have to roll up a few toons before you'll be able to do and see everything, I'm sure. Take the time to try out all the starting areas and get a feel for the options available to you and travel a bit. It's pretty fun just exploring. Aside from questing there's tons of collections, AA's to earn and gear to collect. Not to mention crafting! Lots of stuff to keep you busy.

I've been running it on a similar system with an older video card and less memory on low settings. You should be able to bump it up a bit on that one I'd think. A word of caution... the Neriak starting zones, especially the city proper, are extremely laggy if you have a weaker system or during high population times. It's a beautiful city, but it will test your specs. Faydwer was a little laggy, but not too much. The main cities (Qeynos/Freeport) aren't laggy at all to me unless I'm by the Harbors. Not sure how it would perform in raid situations.

Happy adventuring and welcome to Norrath!

Also, don't worry about posting on multiple forums. I was about to answer you on gameplay forum, but I noticed you were here as well. The above poster kinda hit on the details. Welcome to the game.

You should do fine with that system. I had the same exact CPU except for an ATI card that was about the same as the 6800. The real key to EQ2 seems to be having 2gig of memory, which you do. I have no idea what Vista brings to the equation. There's a tweaking guide somewhere on here that gives you advice on bang for the buck stuff. (Search for graphics tweaking or video tweaking, I cna't remember and I'm being lazy). If you want a class that dishes out a lot of damage, but also like melee, you might look at the brigand/swash classes. Unlike WOW, rogues are not all that popular. You get DPS and some nifty stuff like group invisibility and evacuation. They're groupable, desireable in raids for debuffs, and relatively easy to solo. My impression is the PVP servers are pretty ganky, but I don't play there.

I've always enjoyed DPS classes as well as Tank classes. I love either dishing out massive damage or being the guy in the awesome looking heavy armor standing toe-tot-toe with a big boss. In WoW I most enjoyed my Warlock, My Warrior and my Hunter.

Any class can be played fairly well by a new player but Fighter types are probably the easiest and most forgiving to start with. If you're looking to do a combination fo the two you might consider a berserker. While their damage will never match that of a true DPS class they can do fairly good damage while still being a very good tank. The only downside is that they are fairly common so you might run into issues finding a group at the endgame. But worry about that after 70 levels, not right now... that's why they give you multiple character slots anyway.

There is a stickied topic discussing the basics of the general character types at the top of the forum. You might want to take a look at that if you are unsure what all the classes are and what they do.

3)Is there player/guild housing options?

Yes, TONS! You'll be able to have a house of your own as soon as you leave the newbie area. While it won't be big it will still be able to be decorated however you want and allow you access to more broker slots, house vaults, and all the other things that come along with owning a home in-game. As you get more money and status there are different homes you can choose to buy and tons of items and furniture to choose from. 4)What is the general community like? I've heard its alot more mature, which would be a nice change from the AVG Age/IQ of 13 on the WoW Servers.

Just look around on the boards, in general the EQ2 community is a lot more helpful and mature. It's not to say we don't have our share of idiots, but compared to WoW it's very small. The drawback WoW suffers from is that it's SO popular and has SO many people playing it there are all sorts of people that aren't that invested in the game playing. EQ2 still has a decent size community but generally the people left are the ones that really enjoy the game and have an interest in seeing it improve. 5) How is the content? I'm looking for a deeper more rewarding experience with epic adventures.

Older content can be a little rough around the edges here and there while the newer stuff is absolutely great. But don't be mistaken, there is an absolute boatload of things to do. 6) How well would the game run on my system? Play the Fae ran smooth on High Quality, but the zone seemed rather contained. PC Specs: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (2.2 Ghz) BFG Nvidia 6800 GT Ultra OC 256mb 2GB PC3200 RAM Windows Vista Ultimate x86

You should be just fine, though I know Vista has been giving some people fits. If you had the trial running you should be good to go then. The only thing you might have a problem with is the video card, but if you've got an AGP mobo you're options are pretty limited. Still, you'll do ok with what you have even if you have to lower the settings a little bit. Thanks in advance, hope to see you all soon in Norrath!

Come back with any questions, there are a few of us who post here regularly and are happy to help with whatever you might need. If you happen to end up on Permafrost feel free to look me up in-game.
