Quick question about combat arts. On my inquisitor the AAs to change my spells into CAs, as I level the Cas get better (way better) than the spells. They are pretty much AWESOME. So I had a few questions about other CAs.

1) On my brigand . . . the CAs dont seem to go up at all when I level. How come?

2) how much does STR affect CA damage? I took Street Smarts as my master 2 choice, so its like +27str and I get +3 damage to my puncture? O_o

3) does weapon damage affect CA at all? is the damage from the weapon added to it? Lets say just for a hypothetical, I have a weapon that does 1-5 damage, and a CA that is 150-250 damage. Will that do 150-250+1-5? Will it just do 150-250? If I have one that does 50-120 damage will my CA do 150-250 +50-120? or is it just the base damage?

I believe a maxed 5 points in a CA aa will change an inquisitors spell into an equivalent adept 3 CA. 1) As you level your inquisitor your CA's will continue to be at adept 3 quality when you get new spells. A brigand however will have to continuously upgrade his new spells to adept 3 quality if he wants to compete they will be at apprentice 1 initially. A brigand who upgrades to master every new spell will have much better CA than an inquisitor. 2) Str should increase CA damage by quite a bit until about half way to stat cap after which the returns start diminishing for any stat. Stat cap is calculated as (lvl x 15) so at lvl 42 your Str stat cap would be 630. After about 300 points of str at lvl 42 you should probably focus on increasing another stat as you start getting less for each stat point. 3) Weapon damage range does not affect CA to my knowledge. However weapon quality does affect your chance to hit with a CA. Use the highest level and tier weapon you can equip (taking into account stats and procs)and make sure your mellee skills (crushing for an inquisitor) is maxed. Depending on your crit percentage you might want a weapon with a big damage range. A critical hit always calculates as max damage +1-30%. Having a weapon that has large range 1-300 rather than 150-220 would increase your damage if you have a high crit chance as you will be hitting 301+ more often with the other you would only hit 221+.

no no, I understand that the CAs need to be constantly upgraded as a brigand. However, lets say im a level 20 inquisitor. from 20-25 my CA will go up like 30-40 damage! Thats a bunch! Its still the same CA.

As a brigand lets say 20-25 I use puncture adept I. at level 20 it does 60-83. At level 25 it does . . . 60-83. no difference!

Once you purchase an ability with Achievement Points, and assuming the ability is scalable, you will essentially begin receiving upgrades to that ability every level instead of every 6/8/10/etc levels of normal spells/CA. Not all abilities are scalable, of course, but certainly the CA types fit the description.

Essentially, even though the names of the abilities may not change, your AP abilities get new base versions every level, which are then modified by quality (app1, app2, etc) and primary stat.
