So, I used to be a pretty good bard in EQ1. I had mastered all the little tricks like swarm kiting, aoe kiting, fear kiting, and did a good job twisting songs in groups too (could keep 4-5 buffs going at once, while doing crowd control). I played a dirge for a bit, but honestly, it felt like I was playing a rogue with crappy music animations to my backstabs. Heh, I didn't even have a mez, charm, and only a couple ranged attacks, none of which were aoe's, and my runspeed was horrible w/ no way to drum it up. Would a troub be more like an EQ1 bard? I really miss attempting crazy stuff (like pulling all of PoD) and having the tools to actually be sucessful at it sometimes. Please help?

Im afraid you are in for a bit of a shock, friend. Troubs here are a support class. Twisting doesnt exist, our charm lasts only seconds and mez a bit longer. We wear chain and our dps is not that high. we DO offer great buffs for groups and Raids. Taking down even con single mobs is not really a problem but groups are a but harder. A up arrow mob Add can be problematical. I guess some Troubs do kite somehow but the 15 minute fight that insues is boring to me. Stab stab nuke , mez and regen health for a while, rince and repeat.

All that being said, Troubs are very fun. just dont expect to solo triple up arrows alot (baring the raid equiped uber Troubs).

Troub gets the mez charm side of things, dirge gets the snare fear side of things, however kiting isnt what it used to be and fear does dumb things.
