View Full Version : clothes dummy item... I think it would be a cool concept.

I have been thinking a bit about my house and tradeskilling etc etc I think the thing I have wanted the most is a clothes dummy... I get all this gear and some of it looks cool and some of it doesn't... the stuff that does look cool I hate selling especially my fabled stuff... but it does me no good in my bank. So here is my concept. a Clothes dummy... a mannequin basically. You make them in different races and male/female. They are a basically a cloth looking faceless non-moving model... hopefully brandishing it's weapon... or maybe you can give it a right click "change stance" option. These things are not only a model... they are a container. Anything you put in the container is equipped on the clothes dummy... by the order it is in the box... so if you wedge 2 BPs in there... well the 2nd BP won't be shown.... and you won't have enough room for say your cloak... so that would be a dumb choice IMHO. Now you see where I am going with it... it's like a musuem that displays what you used to look like when you get a few of these things in the same place... and IMHO that's cool. Now you add one last thing... a right-click menu option to swap gear. So I can walk over to my clothes dummy in my house... and switch out of my armor and into civilian clothes or whatever... while it might seem stupid to keep civilian clothes on display at first... it's not. Civilian clothes if I remember correctly have 0 stats 0 power... they just look fancy. Which means they are the perfect tradeskilling clothes... because anything that boosts your mana pool or a stat that impacts your mana pool makes your power pool go up. tradeskills use a percent of your power now... not a flat amount... but power regen IS a FLAT amount... so if you craft naked you use less power but regen it at the same rate... this gives you an advantage.... but walking around naked... is a lame mechanic. So give us an easy way to look like a civilian instead of a naked freak... it's not so simple as unequipping myself... because that takes room in my inventory... precious materials and finished products room... swapping my gear to a clothes dummy to pick up a set of civilian clothes... does not impact my inventory. To take it one step further you could add tradeskiller clothes to the game to make us stand out while we do our jobs... and give us something to spend our gold on and to strive to obtain. http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...37 I have another set of ideas for walls, floors, and stairs linked here http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=374736 if you liked this idea... you might like that one too.

So, I would need to go home to change clothes, that is if I ever did change clothes? Sorry but I for one have absolutely no interest in nor need for this item.

I think this would be a good idea for decoration purposes only. So you could show off cool outfits (or old gear) in your house that you no longer wore but kept for decoration

OMG this is a wonderful idea. I dont know about these other 2 naysayers, but I find this idea extremely helpful. For those of us who craft in our house, it would be an organization dream come true. Not only that, but the armor display is just neato.

If nothing else I like the idea of a mannequin (or maybe a display case?) to at least show off the armor. Even if only a generic humanoid model is used rather than race specific. Especially for those who go through so much trouble to collect complete sets. And all you armorers and tailors could show off your creations!

On a related note allowing us to mount cool weapons on the wall or perhaps this mannequin to show them off would be neat. Especially those with animations and neat effects. I've seen folks walking around with a staff that looks like a sparkley golden spiral is circling the top for instance that I think would look spiffy.

Yes this a is a very cool idea and one that has been asked for over they years many times. Hopefully there will be a way for it to be done, I have been collecting robes since launch in the hope that there will be a way to display them in my house one day, as well as keeping most of the armour I have grown out of. With our new Dev in charge, maybe after the expansion is done there might be a way to look at adding this feature?

So... umm... ya.... thanks for the negative comment... there is a HUGE reason for this... decoration... and tradeskill mechanics both would benefit.

I would use this, definitely...it is a great idea, and would be nice to be able to use this to store a second set of clothes, or even as a broker display box. Would love to see it...the more furniture options the better, I say

I would love this, fantastic idea. Not to sure about the swapping ability thing to be honest, why not just change into your gear from your bank? But I love the idea of being able to display nice armour etc I get.

I like this idea as well - A display mannequin that I can place in my house right click and choose "manage inventory". A character screen comes up that looks just like mine when I hit the "I" button, except that it only has the slots that would display (left side and weapons) along with a preview area of what the mannequin would look like with the items that you put in each slot. Slots could have the same restrictions that the current inventory does (head, cloak, chest, shoulder etc). A mannequin of each race would be a great added carpentry items and this would allow me to add those ‘suits of armor' to my house that I've always wanted. The item itself could have a status value, but the inventory that you put on it would not (whether these approximately 10 items would count against your house total or not I guess would be the tradeoff of having the display vs the status reduction).

Heh. This has been suggested about once a quarter since launch. It has something to do with needing a furniture-style model for *every* worn item in the game. I'll bet the Art Department cringes every time this comes up!

I'm not a designer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn express last night......

It just seems odd to me that we can visually see all of this equipment on a character actively moving around - why couldn't you use the same models to have the armor displayed in the standard stationary pose of me just standing up? Not talking about making the item into a piece of furniture like HQ items, but just displaying it visually just as if someone entered my house.

I personally would like to see a manaquin similar to the skull post (think thats the one) that carpenters can make .. basic "T" form with a knob on top for the helmet (hood).

When "opening" the dummy it would bring up a screen showing 7 slots for armor and 3 slots for weapons (Rt/Lt hands and ranged). By placing items in the dummy container they would automatically appear on the dummy. Each dummy would count as one house item and you could use as many dummies as your house could hold.

Also, dummies should be able to hold HQ items and possibly even trophies.

Dummies should come in 4 sizes, large, medium, small, x-small so the character can show off THEIR armor and not a generic sized set of armor. It just would not make since that a set of armor worn by a gnome/fae/arasai ect would be the same size as a human/elf/erudite and much less the barbarian/troll/ogre.

I think this is a very good idea. SOE really needs to put more interactive stuff in the houses. The fact that we can slay mythical monsters and such but can't even sit in a freaking chair is beyond me.One more thing to add to the clothes dummy....have two types one is like you had it and the other is a sales display. But thats just a thought.

Another person thinking this is a great idea. I would totally use this, and probably even multiples. It would add to decoration, give more storage, and just make sense in a home if youre crafting and want to display stuff.

It wouldnt have to be fancy or have multiple models.. just one generic dummy that can equip everything we can equip cant be too hard to do since armor can equip on all the different race models.

This is one of the original reasons I wanted a house. I don't think it would be too hard to implement... just base the mannequin (or a statue, etc.) off of the same proportions as each race in the game. Then the clothing/armor would fit perfectly onto it, so very little extra work. Please implement this idea!

I think the problem with placeable armor is Either the art Dept would have to create a house placeable Iteam for every piece of visable armor in the game. Or the Mechanics people would have to figure out how to basicly build an NPC that can a)ware player armor(currently* there are none that can), b) it would have to have a new UI, c) it would have to have a player like Inventory, e) it would have to be changable by the player, and thats just the begining of the issues.

*the CL and Zek orcs used to ware the same armor players could ware(the armor that droped from them), but they revamped them(they got reaquiped by the Orcs of Ro in the lore) because having player armor on NPCs caused MAJOR lag issues.

once the new skeletons are live and all the armor is revamped to work on it, this will not be an issue. all they would need to do is put the character skeleton info into an item and for the different sizes, simply classify the item however they do with the different sized races.

I keep thinking that we should have asked this at the Into the Future panel at Fan Faire. Or maybe the Mechanically Speaking panel

I would envision the UI for this type of item to look something just like the "appearance" tab thats on the Test server allowing you to wear one piece of armor for stats but have the visual appearce of a different piece of armor - but with the weapon slots open to put items in there.
