I love the new Dust Distillations for alchemists, and dont really have a problem with the mechanics of the combine, however it seems that this has pushed dust prices up to over inflated levels.

Things like Flickering Dust could be purchased for a few silver before the combines, they are now brokering for no less than a 1g and sometimes more on our server, and incrementally more expensive as we go up through the tiers.

I guess this just means in the long run that no one will bother to buy the lower level Mastercrafted potions because the markup will be far more that what they are deemed to be worth. Plus, no one really bothers with potions below Lvl 40 anyway

Of course this will eventually lower the price of T7 mastercrafted potions as there will be an oversupply of Scintillating Dust, which is already starting to happen. This may hurt alchemists, as I feel that T7 mastercrafted potions is the bread and butter of an alchemists trade.

I just hope the market settles out and we some sort of stability in dust prices in relation to their Tech brackets because I currently feel that the lower tier dusts are WAY overpriced.

You've taken a product there was little demand for (T1 dust) and created a demand by allowing them to be combined to make higher level dusts. It's only natural for the price to rise as demand does.

Today's price equilibrium is tomorrow's lament the sky is falling when that equilibrium is upset by new factors. Adapt and deal. It's raining rare harvests, go out to T1 and grab a bucket to get your share. It takes about 10 minutes to get to level 9, (Since you're looking for cheap dusts to combine, you're already a 69+ Alchemist) the advanced books are for sale for coppers if I remember right. Make a slew of adept 3 stuff (Heck, as an Alchemist you even have T2 durability buffs for Sage spells, so you're not a slave to the RNG like T1) and have your own supply of free dust to upgrade.

It takes 2 dusts plus fuel to make the next-highest-tier's dust (plus you need an extra dust to do the combine... the recipe calls for 3 and returns 1). T2 dust costs 2 T1 dusts+48cp. T3 dust costs 2 T2 dusts+2sp88cp, or 4 T1 dusts+3sp84cp. T4 dust costs 2 T3 dusts+15sp36cp, or 8 T1 dusts+23sp4cp. T5 dust costs 2 T4 dusts+92sp16cp, or 16 T1 dusts+1gp38sp24cp. T6 dust costs 2 T5 dusts+1gp87sp20cp, or 32 T1 dusts+4gp63sp68cp. T7 dust costs 2 T6 dusts+3gp45sp60cp, or 64 T1 dusts+12gp72sp96cp. So unless Scintillating Dust is over 77gp on your server, anyone trying to make money by upgrading 1gp flickering dust is economically illiterate. (Note that I'm not including the extra dust needed to do the combines or the fuel cost to make it, I'm only counting the consumed dusts and their fuel.) For the record, cheapest prices on my server right now are 19gp for Scintillating dust, and 20sp for Flickering.

Today's price equilibrium is tomorrow's lament the sky is falling when that equilibrium is upset by new factors. Adapt and deal.

Well for the record, for me the sky is not falling. I certainly wouldnt bother buying dusts to combine from T1 to T7 ... people have already done this ... bulk bought dusts before the recipe or quest was in game ready to take advantage. I dont even need to buy them I have hundreds of dusts sitting in my bank/broker as we speak.

Plus I certainly wouldnt try and make money from dust combining, there are far easier ways in this game to earn plat, but as always with each new game mechanic theres always someone whos been on TEST, way ahead of everyone else, so they can jump on the bandwagon for their own economical gain.

And of course I am not worried about sitting down with a pen and paper working out how much copper I will lose from making a combine, if I need to make potions, which is normally for myself anyway I will just buy the appropriate dust, and craft them. It normally works out way cheaper than buying 10 x Potion anyway.

My underlying point was, just be prepared to pay a bit more for your Mastercrafted potions in certain tiers until the prices settle

prices have risen for lower level dusts on my server too. But I would think this is only a temporary effect, as people realise that its just not worth buying any dust, under lambent, to distill; then prices should return to normal levels. The only permanent increase in price i can see is for the lambent (and maybe a little for luminous) dusts. But this should be balanced by the drop in scintillating dust prices.
