The rain effects in this game are pretty poor. The cloud graphics are uniform and mediocre, the rain drops are okay, but the haze that goes indoors is a bit of a turn off. Night time is also way too bright, as others have mentioned. Hopefully the new systems in place with Kunark will allow the devs to improve these areas across the board, as they really take away from the atmosphere of the game.

It's a kind of sci-fi type settings, but I was suprised not to see such a thing somewhere in KOS, a place that was in a constant state of precipitation. I think back to Bradbury's story about Venus in The Illustrated Man, or E. E. Smith's very famous planet Trenco, from the Lensmen series. Postulating some region on Norrath where the weather is very screwy is something that could be a very interesting setting. What became of the Emerald Jungle and the City of Mist? Perhaps it got a bit more tropical...

As long as there is context, the bizarre can fit very well. Science Fiction doesn't have to be reasonable, it just has to seem reasonable. Fantasy doesn't have to seem reasonable at all, just consistent (until you write the sequel).

i'd like to see random wether effects throughout all the zones to be honest . i think it add to the realism of the world an help with the imersion of the game. sand storms in sinking sand anyone! or monsoons in the jungles and mix it up with thunderstorms or snow for winter time in antonica ect.

Basically it rains in the following places occasionally: The Island that Qeynos is on including TS Antonica and their sub zones and instances... and The same for the freeport island, Nek forest, CL and their instances and sub zones.

I also miss the rain. I remember the first time I played EQ1 and left the city of Kelethin. My ranger was out in the newbie area hunting skellies and such, and down came the rain all of a sudden. I remember thinking how much like real life that was (I live in Florida, where the rain comes on you quite suddenly and without preamble). As an added level of immersion, I really like weather effects and would love to see more of them in EQ2. I wonder how much of their absence is due to the additional strain it would probably place on video cards and RAM? I'm no computer expert, but I would guess they would add a lot to the workload. Still, maybe they could have a toggle so that you could have a low-res version for people with slower machines. Sure would like to see more weather effects. Snow would be cool too in winter, although that would be harder to do I imagine for lots of reasons.

A revamp of the sky would be very cool. The clouds we have now are always the same. I do like the sun bloom and all that, and the night sky is cool. I hate comparing to other games, but in FFXI (Final Fantasy XI Online) there were NPC's in towns that you could talk to who would give you a weather forecast for nearby areas. The weather always changed, but only in places it made sense of course(no snow on the beach). There were even quests (Summoners Avatars quests) that required you to be in certain weather conditions for the updates.

I agree, it did make it hard to see, but for me that added something. If you were about to go into a dangerous area in EQ1 and the rain started, you had to make adjustments based on reduced visibility--just like in real life. Same with the fog. That was a nice touch of reality for me. Yes, I know it's not real life--but I also am reminded of times in fantasy books or movies when weather became an issue (the snow which drove the Fellowship of the Ring back towards Moria, for instance), and since for me a game like this is like an interactive movie, I enjoy those additional details. Not everyone's cup of tea, I guess.

Why guppies? lol

As you descend, the rain stops. It's a bit like when you catch a sokokar from Teren's to Highton and the colours change from snowy grey down to a greenybrownyjungly colour. Does the same in Fens from 'Span to Western Pen's. Personally, I'd love to see constant rain in the Swamp of no Hope and quite a lot in Kunzar - that place is practically begging to be a rain forest.

As long as weather is implemented as bad as it is now, I would like to see the rain never again. I would like to have an option: weather off. Currently rain just kills the fun out of the game, because you can't see a thing, especially at night. The haze indoors is a joke.Give us a functioning outdoor weather system. Give us light sources, that have to be carried in all kind of equipment slots, especially hands. Make them necessary to venture out at night or into certain dungeons. Let the rain kill minor torches, so we have to get lanterns or magic light, while it rains. (Some mobs could even darken areas or destroy lanterns...) But don't make every weather some form of game crippling fog. We are here to enjoy playing after all

Well, after observing this dev teams attempt at weather in Eq2 over the past 3 years I would have to say, don't bother. There is no actual weather in Eq2 to speak of. There are some zone wide effects that make about as much sense as no weather at all. When an 8 year old product, slapped together on a shoestring budget, EQ1 I'm looking at you, has better weather than this game, it is evident that this team is incapable of doing weather period.

Lets look at some of the glaring omissions and pratfalls of EQ2's weather.

Fisrt of all, amazingly, only some zones have weather at all. Any weather in Enchanted Lands, Thundering Steps, Feerott, Zek, all of EoF, all of DoF, all of KoS?

The zones that do have weather, such as Qeynos and Freeport, have two states, pouring or clear. Not to mention the indoor rain sans raindrops in Qeynos. Nice touch there.

Everfrost? We have a blowing gale of snow which looks blue on any machine I have ever seen it on, in one ravine. Other than that? Nothing.

RoK? We have the perpetual flurry in Terens and the 12 second sunshower at Karnors. Funny how that sunshower only occurs at Karnors itself, go figure. Did I miss any?

All this contirbutes to the arcade like feel of Eq2. EQ1 was far more believeable and immmersive as a world than EQ2 could ever hope to be. We are going backwards.
