Is there any real difference between a Ranger and a Swashbuckler?

There are tons of changes. For one thing, most of a rangers' moves are... well.. RANGED. They stay away from a mob and unload their dps. A Swashbuckler is the opposite. They are in the fray and constantly dps. In addition to this, they "debuff" a mob, which means, they make it weaker against certain attacks. Rangers cannot do this. There are tons of other things that make them different, but those are the main 2 I care to remember.

Thanks for the reply.

So if I want a non caster toon that does high damage, then I need to look at the swashbuckler?

Non-Caster melee dps:

Ranger - High Damage ranged dps.

Assassin - Very high burst damage close up dps

Brigang - Very High debuff close up dps

Swashbuckler - Debuff and close up dps.

The 2 Best non-caster DPSers in the game are Ranger and Assasin. A Ranger uses thier bow(for the most part, they can fight in close but thier DPS does drop off alot) to do lots of damage. Assasins specalize in getting in close and stabing mobs in the back, meaning they have alot of melee attacks but in order to do max damage you need to spend most of your time behind the MoB.

Brigands and Swashbucklers don't do anywhere near the Raw DPS of the 2 Preditor classes, however as they both have such massive Debuffs they accually raise the DPS of others in the fight sugnificantly, so while you wont get the direct credit for the speed in wich mobs die(Debuffs don't show up in parces) your group will see a Differance when your not in it. Both Brigs and Swashs do melee damage with Brigs being the best Debuffer of the two and Swash doing slightly more damage. Also Both Brig and Swash have the capablity to tank in VERY extreem cerimstances, and NOT in a full group, and ONLY if thier AAs are set up right. Over all though a Summoner's Tank Pet maybe better if its Master 1.
