View Full Version : Chat and Broker Lag Issues (Post GU37) on AB

I couldn't find any other posts on this particular topic and wasn't sure exactly where to locate it.

Since the patch, there has been on and off chat lag on AB. It was very obvious on Tuesday night and a little better last night. However, it can be very difficult to deal with and is effecting my desire to play. It isn't something that only I'm experiencing and seems to be effecting everyone in game. (Suprises me, in fact, that I couldn't find a thread on it.) The lag seems centered only on chat and the broker. Combat and tradeskilling actions don't seem to be effected.

What does it look like? Basically every so often you'll type something in chat and it will take anywhere from 15-30 seconds for it to appear. In the meantime, there's a lull in all conversation and then suddenly a wall of text appears as folks try to interact but are limited. The broker lag just happens intermittently while you're using the broker.

When does it occur? There doesn't seem to be anything that indicates it's about to happen. It just does.

My question is: Since I'm not seeing a bunch of posts on this, is this only on AB? Has it been happening elsewhere and is it happening similarly?

Needless to say, it's pretty aggravating to try to type something and not have it appear until several seconds later when it's lost in a sea of text. It does appear to be linked to the patch. (My guess is that chat servers, since they're gamewide as well as cross game, are separate from other servers. Perhaps the broker is linked to that same server.) If I were to take a guess, it would appear that opening all alts to using the broker may be the culprit.

Thoughts?

i can confirm the exact same issues also happening on Valor the chat lag did also affect WW-channels hosted by other servers when youre at guessing around: could also be the anti-spam system overloading the chat servers

Aye. Everyone I communicate with on Antonia Bayle is complaining of chat/broker lag. On patch night, it was the most noticeable with at least a 5-10 second lag. Wednesday night was a bit more erratic. There would be little to no chat lag for a while and then suddenly there was. It went back and forth all night.

Like the OP, I am also on AB server every night, and want to confirm his concerns. It started happening ONLY after GU37.

In addition, the mailbox seems to have been affected by this issue, as well (at least for me). I will sometimes click on an incoming letter, and it can take up to 30-40 seconds (timed with a watch) to complete a transaction, whereas I'd never had this issue before. This happens pretty regularly, whether I have lots of mail pending, or only one or two.

RE: related to the spam filter? I don't think so... the spam filter was in before this latest game update, and it didn't seem to be having any sort of similar effect before GU37...

On AB also, same problems since the update Tuesday.

Myself, as well as several others I have spoken with and/or have seen complaining in chat channels, are having this issue on LDL as well.

I believe this is due to persistant instances of EH being held up consuming extra bandwidth.

Whatever the cause, it looks like it's an ongoing problem. I would guess it's some sort of resource leak, or a setting on the servers that needs tweaking. Same thing happening all over Antonia Bayle. (Raid forces, crafting channels, chat channels.)

All they'd need to do is load a config file for that particular version of the instance when it is created.

It's not just the rp servers (only two servers I saw mentioned in the thread); I've been noticing the problem on Oasis as well.. I jsut thought it was my msn acting up again since I'm always sing the voice feature on there with my boyfriend -_-

AB was particularly bad last night, and it is not only chat and broker, though those tend to be the most obvious signs. The lag is world wide, better in some areas, worse in others, even in some instances, and this GU seems to have had a larger impact than usual. We always get a bit of lag after an update, usually due to the increased amount of folk on to see what is new. More toons, more resources needed server side as well as your own PC (which is why some folk are more affected than others). The increased player level will eventually balance out and normal lag will fade. For your PC - defrag, and clean disk, make sure you have rebooted and close all the unneeded crap in the system tray There were a lot of new items in this update, granted your new living room set should not be affecting your neighbor outside, but again we are talking about resources on the server side and things needing to settle in - some issues you just can't find on Test. So, yes, over the next week or two the general lag should fade. I am pleased that this time a GU did not completely bork chat, more often than not it does. The broker has a search engine tied to it, poor thing has had it's workload increased with the new selling rules, please give the Devs a few days to determine the average and tweak it. What I am concerned about in terms of LAG - is the persistent binding in Neriak and the increased slow downs in Qeynos Harbor and South Qeynos. I do not have a toon living in Freeport, though I believe one of those has been increasingly quirky as well, East, perhaps. These areas were bad before the update - now, Neriak is almost impossible.

Don't even get me started on Neriak - the memory leak issues are so bad there that if I even ZONE into the area at any time during the play session it slows down the game for me everywhere else so my load times are quadrupled whereever I go. Its as if Neriak is somehow permanently taking resources if you enter it and will hold onto it until you quit the game. They really need to resolve that - it shoud never have come out of beta testing in this way. It is the 'only' zone btw that does this - no other zone slows down the game 'after' you have left it.

A responce would REALLY be apreciated....

The lag was so bad last night that it took up to 30 seconds for item transfered from bag to broker or bag to bank slot to register. Items in the guild bank arent showing up, the bank appears empty.

Also, zone lines werent responding. Druid portals took multiple clicks to activate once it was cast.

6 minute delay between having my money disappear when trying to buy a master and the master actually showing up in my inventory. Longest six minutes in my game life.

Really irksome.. but we should be used to this after all on AB.

I jumped the rail, ran to my trade station, and opened the crafting window and selected my item to craft. It was red for the rare...I did not have it. So I figured I must have messed of the confirmation. I went back upstairs to the broker and sorted by the rare and it wasn't there. Now I am getting confused. About 30 sec later (I was trying to figure out what happened), I got the message that I bought the rare and it was in my inventory. This was all minutes of time.
