I am currently in the process of trying to figure out how to make a second story room in my 2 room inn and have come up with several ideas as to how to go about it (I know its been done but I'm trying to figure out HOW its been done and maybe come up with my own idea of how to do it differently so please do not bother linking "how to" guides for me). Anyway, since I do not request imput or help doing this (I know, I'm making it difficult for myself), here is my request:

Currently rugs are not tangible items. Im not sure why this is so, but I had this grand idea to use rugs as my ceiling/floor because the tables have the ugly legs sticking out from under them and it really was not the look I was going for. So I decided before putting up a bunch of rugs and hoping for the best, I would test the theory. I placed a table, then a rug, then yanked the table out from underneath and tried to put it on top ... the table went back to the bottom. Then I decided to see if it would hold a person and jumped on it and woun up with a rug skirt sticking straight out from my waist. I do not know if this is WAI, but I personally would really like some tangibility in my rugs. It would make "add-on" stories to houses much more attractive.

Thank you in advance for looking into this Domino ... j00 R da bestest dev ebber!!! p

To make it even more confusing, some rugs are solid, some aren't. Since you're determined to make this difficult for yourself, I won't tell you which is which--mwahahaha! Seriously, though, it would be nice if the art department could take a look at making *all* rugs solid. Maybe a repost in the Look and Feel forum?

I cave ... which rugs can I use as solids?

asking for advise is not weak, it is recognizing that you have a defiency of knowledge somewhere that you wish to correct. There are alot of helpful people here who will happily help with questions and noone here will think you weak for asking (or at least noone that matters )

If such matters were considered weak, then every student of any school would be considered weak, since that is in effect what you are doing, you are seeking to be taught the wisdom and knowledge of others

lol, talk about carrot on a stick I just did this exact thing yesterday. I can't remember the name of the solid rugs right now (I'm not at home), but the lowest level one I could find made by carpentry are the ones you can make at level 26 (canvas rugs maybe?). I laid down 16 or 18 of them up on the rafters, and then laid down ornate coalition rugs on top of them (if you don't add the non-solid rugs, the solid rugs look transparent when you're underneath them). Works great, the only bummer is how many item slots it consumes. There might be bigger rugs you could use made by higher level carpentry, but since my carpenter is only level 26 those were my only option. If you want more information on making lofts, there are a few threads in the Norrathian Homeshow forum.

I have to say there is two or three rugs that can be done that way and that is the lvl 26 'Canvas Rug' and lvl 47 "Rough Linen Rug' for I have used them after a floor plan was built. I am sure there is more ways to make the floor first. The 'Rough Linen Rugs' is the only big rug that I know of that allows you to walk on them and put things on them after the first floor plan is removed.

Why is it these are the only rugs able to do that? I agree the rest should be more solid.

I have a 2nd story in my house made of rugs... forget the name of the rug though... I had to buy a few before I found a "solid" one and they are invisible from underneath as someone else pointed out. But I have a better question... Why do we have to deal with useing rugs in this manner to begin with? to be honest if you laid rugs out on your rafters in RL and said "hey dude... can you turn on that T.V. over there across the way" I would laugh at you and then nudge you to take the first step out on your cool "rug floor" which would happen to be like your last step EVER as well. Why can't we get movable walls or planking... stuff that is designed to serve the purposes we use this other junk to compensate for.... Same thing goes for steps... why can't I buy some steps or commission some made? Instead I have to buy like 40 chests and try and get them all lined up properly... then I have to stack bookcases on the side of it in reverse to make it look like a wall... and hang a tapestry over it to cover up some of the seems. For walls we just need tall wood or plaster looking rectangles... that are solid on all sides.... for floors we need the same except the need to be laying down.... it's not complex for those 2 items. Now the stairs... they are a little more tricky because you have to stack them... I would suggest a 2 items : 3 step stair - being the foundation 3 step stair "filler" - which is a cube the same color and dimensions of the 3 step stair that you use behind the first one to raise steps 4,5,6 up into position I would then make these in varying textures... some having say a carpet runner... some wood... some stone. I would make them a common materials item... except maybe a special cobalt one or something somwhere... because you have to buy them in bulk... alot of people would need like 10 units (4 stairs 6 fillers - stair / filler+stair / filler+filler+stair / filler+filler+filler+stair ) to get a 12 step solid staircase done. I mean lets be honest... there is like ZERO real use for apartments... would it really hurt that bad to give us the items we need to do some structural changes? Is it going to unbalance the game to give us stairs, walls, or floorboards? No... it won't. So be our hero... hook us up.
