View Full Version : Carpenter's Lament

While it is really awesome that we're getting new recipes, could we get some things that really exist in the zones they are supposedly coming from, and then maybe some things people will actually want to put in their houses? The vale stuff is nice if you are a halfling I suppose. But...heck, even Qeynos has some existing things that would look great, tiffany style lamps, etc. and Eof and KoS are full of neat, sharp looking things (and the graphics already exist). I dunno how many times I've said, and the people around me have said....wouldn't *that* look cool in a house?

Yep I'm ready for more stuff and I know it's coming too. Domino is doing an AWESOME job give give her some time As for the vale stuff I think its great. I replaces a ton of those djinn pillows with them. A loveseat by the fireplace instead of those giant pillows looks much nicer in my opinion.

I guess you truly can only please some of the people some the time. Carpenters have received a lot of love from our new dev. She is one person, do you really think she can give you everything being asked for overnight? She has brought a lot of new stuff to the game since she arrived. Rather than greater quantity I am hoping she gets some room to start improving the quality of the crafted items and make crafted items actually viable in the game for more than the casual players or those grinding quickly through levels looking for the cheap to get by on...

Though Q and F are possibly open for travels by carpenter explorers, if you've read the threads, you'll know KOS and EOF are out for now, technical and resourse reasons. At least for now. And I'm not lamenting I assure you, I'm thriiiiilllllllleeeeeed with what we got today.

O. M. G. Carpenters have gotten love from Domino the last couple updates, big time, because their recipes don't require itemization, and someone actually has the you-knows to complain? Yeah, I guess there really is no pleasing some people. Give 'em an inch....

My little carpenter is in hog heaven I love having the new stoves and wine glasses and BREAD!

hmmm.....

Totally disagree with the OP.

Carpenters have had heaps of love, with more to come.

Keep up the good work Domino.

Carpenters have definitely felt the love, and beggars can not always be choosers. Changes are coming with each available opportunity, and I for one am very happy with what we've been given thus far. I have no complaints, and I know that Domino hears our voices. She can only do so much at any given time, and I'm sure that as time goes on, other items will be implemented based on prior requests/screenshots. In fact, she's made threads about things like that too, so we're obviously not being ignored.

Im more than happy with the additions us Carps have receive lately. Domino has posted before that not all items you see in the game can be easily made into furniture. Where a lot of items are just that (a seperate graphical body added to the gameworld) a lot of items are actually just part of the whole room/area (part of the background 'drawing' if you like) so don't actually exist as a graphical object that can be ported into a recipe.

I just started my carpenter up again lastnight...mainly to make sales displays for my alts, but after seeing all the new recipies I might be tempted to taking this tradeskiller to 70 (I usually burn out tradeskilling at lvl 40 ro so )

Are these new recipe books I have to purchase or would they show up already on my carpenter (assuming the new items are at the crafting level range my toon is in)?

They appear in your recipe list if you already have the book for that level.

Even if some of the stuff I really do not care for .. I love that we are getting new items. Really I would like more reasons for people to actually come to your home .. but .. that is a bigger problem.

Yes, I have the you knows to complain. I haven't ever before, and while I appreciate that we're getting "love" I am like the person that said quality over quantity. You know, it doesn't matter how nice some of our stuff is, some people just aren't going to spend their money furnishing their homes. I'm sure you've all had this experience, and it's one that happened to me again last night. I was shopping on the broker and saw a spell upgrade I wanted; the person selling it lived in a 5 room SQ house. I hop on my carpet and glide over. I pop in the house and what do I see? 5 mostly empty rooms except for a wall of salesmans crates! There are a few rare furniture items around, enough to substantially reduce status, but that's it! No decorations, no ambiance, nothing. The person only has the house to facilititate selling. Just pick a random house and go visiting sometime, you'd be surprised at the number of level 70 toons that have next to nothing in their homes other than vendor space. I dont think its so much that we dont' have nice things, but we have aren't NECESSARY to enjoy the game well. Whereas spells, potions, armor, food and drink...etc..are. They facilitate adventuring, furniture doesn't.

Well, we do make those crates at least They are pretty necessary for most folks who want to use the broker.

I do occasionally sell some furntiture besides sales crates, but yeah there doesn't seem to be a really huge demand.

Time wich right now is 100% devoted to RoK. Second, she has also said that many of the iteams on her list can't be done as they are not sepreate iteams placed on the wall but are accually part of the wall art or floor or whatever. Third, she also said next up for new iteams are some "Evil" looking stuff, wich I think would be great.

I just hope she got to SoE in time to influance how many RoK iteams are Flagged for everyone and not just for RoK.

Good comment - lots of people dont decorate their houses. (That in and of itself is an issue when it comes to selecting carpenter as a career, know your market. Now, ask yourself why people dont decorate their houses??)

ok, Why dont people decorate their houses?

You cant camp in your house so its not a zone you actually can finish and start in

You cant interact with the furniture in a meaningful way (how long have we been asking to sit on chairs or sleep in the beds? yes, I understand the character skeltal models, etc..simplay making a point about interaction)

The items dont truly provide any benefit to the player other than status reduction (which is why people just buy lots of whatever has high status reduction and is cheapest regardless of looks). Want to see ugly check out the basements and attics where all that crap gets shoved just to reduce status.

Housing in general is not meaningful in this game. There is little to absolutely NO reason to congregate in a house. Guild housing is non-existent. You cant put useful merchants and banking items there so rather than use a house for anything more than extra selling slots people still congregate in the noob zones where everything is spitting distance from each other. Castleview Hamlet - 1 type of residence, 5s per week, no status. Very small city zone which has a banker, tradeskill instance, broker, fuel merchants, craft writ givers, mender, multiple merchants and vendors along the streets, mariner bells with I think 12 zoning abilities (not included directly linked zones - down below and oakmyst). Ok, SQ - multiple housing types including the most expensive in the game. No mender, no banker, no tradeskill instance, no mariner bells - you have to port to QH for those, Mage tower wrtits givers, no fuel merchants, no tradeskill instance, at this point you have to ask yourself - why am I living here????? Oh yeah, I cant get 6 sales slots in Castleview, not directly anyway. Thank you LU37 for changing that and making it easier though

When it comes to housing, games like Sims get that component. The items in the housing are scaled and actually provide some benefit to the people interacting with those objects. For instance, the better the bed the faster your toon restores their health, etc.

Perhaps a reason to decorate your house and use objects could come into play if perhaps those items provided some type of buff (better bed add +x to health re-gen or power re-gen for y period of time /shrug)

Simply - because there isnt a valid reason to do it other than it something you thought might look neat...

While all those things may have some truth to you, some of what you are stating are opinions, not actual facts...and there is a difference. Something doesn't have to be meaningful for it to be a nice thing to have. Some people may not choose to spend the time to fully furnish and decorate a home cause it's just not their thing. Okay, but for those of us who do take pride in our residences, does that mean we have to suffer? I'd certainly hope not. The bottom line is no one is forcing anyone to decorate a house. You have the choice to either do it, or not do it. Just because you choose not to do it does not mean anything should be taken away from those of us who do chose to so.

I am a level 70 carpenter that has been crafting since the game was released and the only thing i ever made any money on was strongboxes, that is until someone makes a ton of them and starts selling them for barely over cost. Most of those that do enjoy decorating their homes have their own carpenter or at least this is true on my server. But personally, i don't care anymore if people buy things. I make the stuff and put it on the broker and if it doesn't sell, I'll use it myself eventually.

I do still continue to craft though for the sheer joy of decorating, be it my own or the home of an alt.
All Carpenter stuff is usable by all toons of all levels at any time which is a definite advantage. My armourer has no use for handcrafted beyond tier 4 since it is a liability wearing it rather than a benefit.
