I did not see any penalties listed in the descriptions for these, only bonuses. So is it safe to assume that you should always be in one form or the other as there is no downside? Wolf-7% better chance to crit with spells. Tree-better heals Cat-mellee proc chance I think

Yes, you assumed correctly. If there is no negative listed in the description, there is usually no negative. Aside from obvious things like it wont hit if there is a damageshield up etc.
The only downside that I am aware of is only existent if you are on a PvP server, such as me. I have noticed in my time that whenever I am in a Group and In Treant form (Tree), I am always the first to be attacked, which is painfully obvious since it is a red flag stating that you are a healer. Other than that, there is no negative side effects at all. Just have to watch out and be uber-cautious around PvP areas since you will let everyone know that you keep others alive.

The only downside is that any group illusions that other classes cast wont take effect as the first illusion cast is always the the only one to show. So you have to recast your illusions if you want to take a group illusion form...and this has to be redone every time you zone or take a cloud/carpet or run out of range of the caster. This is incredibly frustrating in PvP when rolling in conjorers golem form for added protection...either i recast my buffs every 5 minutes, or be an even easier target than i usually am. You can also hide all illusions in your Persona window...you keep the buffs but no illusions show.

Illusions sometimes prevent or screwup jumps so if you absolutely must jump or Else, hide the illusion.

You'd thinks being a cat I would land on my feet but WHAM!

Could be combination of Fae flight and the illusion but it occurs pretty regularly.

/hide works in pvp and I always hide my form for the reasons stated above. In pvp we always go for the wz/warlock first but the healer is a very close 2nd. LOL. Tank is always last and a pally is ignored unless we get bored

yes /hide works in pvp. i personally would never choose to run around in illusions. treant is especially awful, i love hearing people gripe after i rez em with PA. i take that back. our fairy illusion is pretty useful in pvp since it makes you so teeny and hard to target but it is a pain in the [Removed for Content] b/c you have to make sure you cast it first.

You can't jump 'only' without a direction being pressed in many forms, instead you perform an animal action.

I.e a roar or growl or something else along those lines.

If you press a direction and jump, you jump in that direction.

Movement is effected when in our shapes. For instance jumping can be an annoyance when you need to be precise "or else".

Otherwise no negative to them.
