Alternate Appearance

That is SOGA. It was introduced after the Easter servers merged. Its just another way to view your toon and others.

Alternate appearances are a different set of appearances that are used by the Asian region of the game. They are also available to you as well though.

<p>When the game was released in Asia a company called Soga was hired to redo character appearances to make them more appealing to that market.  many of the changes were popular here in the states and in europe as well so SoE ended up just adding them as an option for everyone. So, if you go into your options you can select how you view other races.  Either you see them as 'standard' or as 'Soga'.  You can only effect how YOU see others, you cannot effect how others see you.  Therefor when you create a character you can go back to the character select screen and click the 'alternate appearance' button once and set your characters appearance in there as well.  That way you can choose how you look to others regardless of which model type they are viewing. </p><p>Hope that answers your question!</p>

<p>Thats the SOGA/asian appearance of characters. After you have created your character in char creation you should switch to the soga model and see how it looks; it can look very bad hehe. Changing soga appearance does not change what you have done to your original appearance.</p><p>In options you can choose to enable soga on just certain races or on all races.</p><p>You can go to a barber and pay a gold or something to change both original and soga model of your character. Ask a guard for barber. In Qeynos he is located in North Qeynos.</p>

<p>The Barber allows you to completely redo the look of your character.</p><p>One note about SOGA models.  Each player chooses to see all models of one particular race/sex in SOGA or not.  If you see yourself in SOGA it doesn't mean everyone else does.  You want to set both appearences so that players who don't use the same model as you will still see a character that you got to design.  Some races you can make them look pretty similar, some of them are completely different.</p>

Thanks for this info... I was wondering as well. =) Does it greatly effect performance?

I don't know of any big difference in performance when using one model or the other... .I do know that many of the original models seem to have bigger customization options but I don't know if that would affect performance.
