When I try to install EQ2, the installer keeps cancelling the download on various files. I would go in find the file delete it and it would reinstall the file and go on its merry little way. Now its on a file mss.dll and its no where to be found, so i can not delete it. I have windows vista and it is set to run admin and service pack 2. All the other tweeks have not helped either such as setting to where nothing loads but windows at startup. I am at a dead loss. Three days of trying to get this downloaded. I am on DSL so I know I am not losing connection. Anyone have any other suggestions before I spend $300.00 on long distant calling? LOL.

Thanks

A future EQ2 Player (hopefully)

If you have done the compatibility setup there is one other option I would like you to do. Right click on the desktop icon and select the run as administrator option (should be about the third one in the list that comes up). Let me know if that allows you to continue with the download. It could also be windows defender or even UAC that is affecting it and you may want to turn those off for troubleshooting.

Is the game set to Run As Administrator or just your account you use to sign in. Because in Vista there is administrator and then there is ADMINISTRATOR. So unlike in XP it does not work the same. So right the game icon and chose Run As Administrator. Also, disable UAC (User Account Control).

Being set to run as admin in the compatiblity is only one step. I would still try right clicking on the desktop icon and selecting that option just to see how it goes. You may want to go and turn off the UAC then for testing.

This is from a poster on one of our other Tech forums. Control Panel > Security Center > Other Security Settings Disable "User Account Control" I am not suggesting you leave it this way as you will be getting a message about the security settings. This is mearly to test if you can get past the patch download canceled problem.

Thanks TSR- ChrisL You were right on the money. I turned off the UAC ran the patches and it worked like a charm. I of course turned them on after the patches were finished. I can not thank you enough.

An Everquest Player

Name Unknown as of yet!

This is how I feel about UAC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUPxkzV1RTc I turned it off instantly.
