Played EQ2 way back in 05 during a break of playing WoW when I had a terrible terrible computer, hear its gotten a lot better nowadays and I've gotten tired of WoW (extensive raiding "career", not playing it for reasons I wont go into) and LOTRO so i'm gonna try this again (with a new computer huray). Was a berserker back then and got to mid 20's I think but im starting over. Apologies for all the WoW analogies i'll probably make but i've had the most experiance in it so if you dont get them just ignore them heh.

Anyway theres a lot of classes a would like to try so that doesnt really help me so here I am asking yall . Couple things I'd like get out of the way in what I'm looking for.

1. I want to be raid viable (wanted in raids for w/e reason... dont want to be the hunter of EQ hehe). Assuming I enjoy the game and keep playing all the way to raiding content I want to be able to participate (I love raiding).

2. Want to be able to solo, not necessarily the best solo'er but I dont want to have the grind of a paladin from WoW.

3. Dont really want to be a berserker again (or any fighter for that matter); although I can be persuaded.

4. Alignment doesn't matter

5. Don't want to be a primary debuffer (I geuss the illusionist? Being a debuffer doesnt matter so long as thats not my primary function).

6. Being decent in PVP is a plus since I enjoy PVP'ing.

Other then that I dont really have any nitpicks... or any strong desire to be a specific type of class (healer, fighter etc). I've always been partial to magick users (rolled a warlock in wow back when it first came out under the assumption that I was going to be a DoT person but not so much, so kinda thinking of a real DoT class in EQ) but at the same time I kinda want to try something different, such as a scout or a healer. Hence my dilema heh.

Thanks for any help

1-6 all fits rogues. But on pvp servers, rogues are a dime adozen so getting into raids with one might be a tad hard. also fits necros, but necros are harder to play in pvp. Still melt face, and they are one of the best soloers if you spec for soloing with aas. they are also wanted for raids because of their dps and their utility. their dps is amongst the best in the game. Conjurers are the same as necros as far as points 1-5 are concerned. Dont know how good they are in pvp.

If you want to play a priest class play a Fury. Great for soloing and are good in raids for healing mage groups plus tossing in some DPS. However if your main goal is raiding play a Mystic. Soloing one maybe alot like watching paint dry but they are always in demand in a raid and it seems that few play them. If you want to play a caster class play a Necro. Ultimate soloer and DPS galore on raids. The downside if you want to raid is that there are 2193487365892 Necros running about. You might wish to consider Warlock, Coercer or Conjuror. I don't know enough about Fighter or Scout classes to make a recommendation for you. I do know that Troubadors, Brigands and Swashbucklers are desired in raids.

I disagree and agree on different points int he previous posts. Rather than responding directly I'll just voice my own opinion.

Right now for raiding, any fighter that isn't MT or Off tank has a precarious position in the raid...they are trying to change this, but it is true for now.

Most classes have some form of debuff, but it is not a primary funcion of any class. Utility, however, is a primary function of bards and enchanters ( meaning crowd control, buffs, power regen) so I doubt you want to play either bards or chanters.

There are some very good soloing priests, but it takes quite a few achievement points before the soloability really comes out. These are inquisitors, mystics, and wardens.

Furies are also good at soloing, but seem to be very popular and aren't considered very good healers (more due to the players that can't heal well than the class that can't heal well). The fact that people don't usually like them for healers, and that they are more popular means they are harder to get into raids with.

All classes can solo, but many are better at some things than others. It's hard to describe the differences in detail, but it's easy to imagine that having stealth, pets, root/nuke, or feign death all gives you very different options for soloing. More different than better.

As for the perfect class for you, I can't really tell you that with the information you provided. I would say to not roll a fighter, bard, or chanter but anything else is a possibility. If you specified whether you want to heal or dps...or melee or ranged I could suggest more.

PVP and raiding are not really compatible. If you like duelling but love raiding, I'd roll on a PvE server. If you prefer the PVP element over raiding, go for a PVP server but don't expect to get too much spectacular raiding done.

Brigand... Is what I'd recommend. Necro's are not really desired on raids and they're very common. Brig might be common in PvP, but in PvE they're a highly desired class. Illusionist is also highly desired and strong PvP.

Brig and Illu can both solo well too.

Thanks for the responses!

Kinda thinking warlock / conjorer / inquisitor, but havent really heard anything about predators? Are they any good in PVE?

Probably should have said somethign in the first post but those were more or less in order of importance hehe, I enjoy pvp'ing but I dont want to focus on it, just dont want a class that completely blows in PVP basically

Solo, not too good. they can still do ok though.
