Hi - I am new to EQ2 and on-line gaming. Thinking of a wood elf ranger. has this build solo potential? are there threads for different class types? any advice welcome?

Each class has their own forum on here where you will find more information about that class than you ever wanted to know. Just look on the main page and click on Class Discussion, that will open a list of all the classes, clicking on one opens the forums for that partiuclar class. Can't really help you on the Ranger though, it's a class i do not have direct experience with, though a irl friend plays one and is happy with it, both in group and solo.

Thanks for that Nahlis. I see you have a wood elf mystic!

My pleasure! Yes, the W-E mystic was actually my first EQ2 character at launch, though in truth i only got him to lvl 30 or so before I tried out the troll bruiser (just to see what Freeport looked like) and fell in love with the class. heh Eventually went back and leveled the mystic up a bit, but it's never really 'grabbed' me so to speak. Currently working on an Inquisitor (lvl 43 currently) and really, really enjoying the class.

Wood elf ranger is a great choice. Even though race doesn't matter that much, as a ranger Wood Elf has a useful ability they can get, that only one other race(High elf I think?) gets, which makes it so you have a higher chance to do critical hits on a ranged attack. Have fun! I found ranger to be the most fun class(imo), I've played many different classes, but Ranger stuck to me the most.

David, you should note that races do not really affect the quality of the class. The only time you will see a difference is about the first 5 or 10 levels, after that the difference in starting stats will be evened up with your equipment. For example if you take a gnome which is naturally better suited to be a caster since it starts with a higher intelligence then strenght and you make a gnome guardian you might be overburdened a bit more till about level 10 and have a lower strenght. However once you get higher you will have more equipment that gives + strenght so it will not make any difference which race you chose. Chose something that appeals to you.
