The amount of expansions EQ has is a bit overwhelming. It seems I'm going to have to shell out over 100 dollars just to keep it up to date. Do I need all the expansions to stay competitive with everyone else?

DO NOT BUY IT FROM SOE OR YOU WILL PAY THROUGH THE NOSE! If you don't live in NA try to find a place to sell you the Echoes of Faydwer Retail box because it also has everything you need.

I'm in Europe (Norway) and got it from D2D without any problems. It's not US only but apparently there's a few countries having problems buying this from D2D. It's easy enough to register and try though, you don't get charged if they can't sell you the product. Costs $40 and includes a month of play time.
