So, after that first starting area, can someone confirm that these two areas actually have noticably different maps? It's a bit jarring to me that the starting areas are so blatantly the same, with just some switch-ups of NPCs and quests. It makes me not want to start in either, and since Faydark makes me nautious for some reason...Neriak is the only place I'm bothering with my experimental new characters.

Nice one. I meant "nauseous". However, the end result is the same - I may as well be sea-sick! I'm not 100% sure what it is...I suspect it's all the up and down over the trees and hills and trying to find my way up things in GF. But after I play a character on the Isle for more than 20m or so, I feel like I'm going to toss my proverbial cookies.

Any comment on my question?

Soon as you get off the isle then everything is different.

At launch there was only one starting area, the Isle of Refuge, where we were dropped after being rescued from the see after the Shattering. Now there are two Island starter areas, The Queen's Colony and the Isle of the Overlord. All they really share in common is the map (and the basic training you get in any newb zone).

They're different, but I'd suggest Fayd/Neriak as starting areas. If Tranquility Forest bothers you, do Neriak.

There's a HUGE difference between Greater Faydark and Neriak! Try it

Kathy was suggesting the former as starting areas over F/Q. Since Faydark is out for me (re: I'm gonna toss my cookies), just wandering if she was implying a serious advantage in starting in Nerkiak vs. my other options.

I mean, I tried all three a little at least, but I must not be far enough in Neriak to catch the difference. Is it just faster to level there?

On the other hand FP is basicly a Warf Town with the requisit Slums but with a "gleaming" core. I personally think that FP's core city areas are much more imaginative and interesting then Qeynos's but I just can't stand its slums. The Qeynos Outer Districts are far better. After you get out of FP you go into the Comminlands this area is much like an African Savana complete with Elephants, and Lions, Very Differant then the more pastural Antonica. Infact I can't think of one overland zone that really resembles another one, once off of the Newbe Isles. There are Dungons and instances that use the same maps(the KoS zones I think where the worst offenders of this) but by and large most areas in EQ2 are extreemly unique.

As for compairing Kel/Neriak to Qeynos/FP well first off, both Kel and Neriak are 1 zone for the entire city(infact Kel is accually an area with-in the Gfay zone) on the other hand there are 4 zones that make up the core city of both FP and Qeynos, and then there are like 4 or 5 outer district zones, and a few "Adventure Yards". Secondly both Kel and Neriak(Neriak especally) has a great serries of quests that bread crumb you though the zone and it seemed to me anyway that just as I was getting ready to out lvl an area, it was also time to move on to the next set of quest givers(it is not like that in Qeynos/FP as this Idea is a new direction they started with EoF) so it feals alot more imersive going though those quests. Also if all the Ups and Downs in Gfay makes you ill, I would first sugjest not getting a Warg when you are of a high enough lvl they are a very bouncy ride. Also others have complained about the fluttering of Fae Wings making them Ill, however if you don't have an issue with lvling in Neriak where Arasai also have wings then It is probly just the zone design. The good news is that zone currently is the only zone with that many ungulations that close together, Lfay also has alot of ups and downs but its more gradual and you don't notice it as much. Most of the other zones are Fairly flat.
