Hello, I tried EQ2 many months ago and never got into it. As others have I got the free offer card in the mail and said what the heck. So it is downloading now. I play mainly evenings and sometime all weekend long in the central time zone. I am interested in PvE atm as well. So with that said what server best fits the criteria? Are there any guilds that take new members looking for starting direction in the game who may also have some lowbee's to group with?

Any information appreciated!

Edit: Wanted to add this question: I have skimmed over the classes and did not see it....Are there any classes where you can tame pets to fight with you or is that not a part of the game? Thanks again.

This is a common question around here, and many people suggest creating your character around the time that you usually play. When you go to the "Server Select" section, each server is ranked by population. Pick one with a population that sounds good for you and a rule set that you think will work out. I recomend not starting on a PvP server untill you've got a good feel for the game dynamics, but you can if you really want. All that aside, Antonia Bayle (sp?) is the highest populated PvE server, and Venekor is the largest PvP server.

Animals tend to work poorly as pets though, low dps. You cannot bring charmed mobs across zonelines.

Thanks for the quick info. I would like to also start off with a good solo class just incase there are not many people to group with starting out. How are Wizzard's and Warlocks at solo? Or, I should ask what is/are the most soloable class/s in the game?

If you're interested in having a pet being your primary means of damage then a Necromancer or Conjuror is probably what you'll want to try out.

You''ll get a list of half the classes in the game. Wizards are really powerful soloers, warlocks are not (Unless its a bunch of linked mobs, no other class oneshots those groups like a warlock does). Why is that? Wizards get huge single target DD nukes, warlock get dots. Dots have a chance to break roots at every tick, making the chance of a warlock breaking roots a LOT bigger than a wizard. And a mob beating your face in is bad news as a mage.
