Well I've downloaded the files...... now how do I play the game?

<p>I'm having an odd problem with the patcher.</p><p> I have recently received mail from SOE which has given me free download to all the expansions and adventure packs, and free play time until sept. 15..........great!</p><p>I have downloaded all expansions and adventure packs.....I have downloaded all optional files.  The patcher says, "Update Complete", but the big Update button that is supposed to turn into the Play button when files are complete....is grey'd out.  I have tried checking the auto-play box, and doing a full file scan, but this does nothing.  The patcher updates and does a full file scan, but the Update button stays grey'd out and the patcher never goes into "autoplay".</p><p> Anyone have any idea what is going on?  I am running Vista btw.</p><p>p.s.  I checked my station account and it is indeed flagged as playable until sept. 15</p>

<p>Ok, if the big button is still grey and says Update, you havent finished the download of all the patches yet.</p><p>First thing to check, are you running EQ2 as an administrator on the PC (Vista has some new security stuff that means if youre not running as administrator it wont let you download everything you need). Secondly, firewalls and anti-virus can also cause this to happen - but run as administrator and see if it works first.</p><p>Note: chances are itll take a long time to get everything once it actually starts properly downloading everything.</p><p>Edit: typos</p>

<p>thanks for the quick reply!</p><p>Hmm,  weird.  I basically just double clicked the EQII icon every time I opened it previously. I have been downloading files since last night (approx 12 hours or so), and it said files complete.  I have since closed and reopened EQII several times and tried full file scan and each time it would go through a quick check and say "files complete".</p><p>NOW, I just now right-click and run as administrator and now more files are downloading ........ Estimated time remaining is  60 HOURS~!</p><p>Odd thing is, the file it is currently downloading is a file that I remember downloading last night while not running as an administrator  "Char_froglock.vpk"</p><p>I am confused.  Hopefully this works.</p><p>Thx much!</p>

<p>Things to note: the size of the game on my PC is about 7-8Gig.</p><p>I'm sure somewhere I've read that with "Vista's wonderful new security (TM)" it may not have downloaded all the stuff to the correct directories - so that could be why its downloading the same stuff again - maybe - though I might have just imagined this <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>Also the estimated time remaining thing tends to be a bit inventive at times, and sometimes the patcher stalls, if it does just stop the update and restart it.</p><p>It may take forever to get it going, but I think the game is well worth it <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

Well if you were not running it as administrator mode then Vista has this thing about forcing programs to put files where Vista wants.  So check under your username folder under Documents for a EQ2 folder.  I bet all these files you are redownloading are sitting there (not where they are supposed to be).  So now you run it in Administrator mode the patcher is now allowed to put the files where it is supposed to be and they are not there because they were moved by Vista to where it wanted.
