View Full Version : Performance issue with guild rosters on EQ2Players

Over the past week performance on the EQ2Players website when trying to display a guild roster has been gradually going from bad to worse. Right now some guild rosters will take minutes to display (and some people even mentioned running into timeouts on occasions). One sample: http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...?guildId=903106 Is SOE aware of it? Smaller guilds are affected too - our own guild of 150 members can take nearly 30 seconds to display now, while it used to take maybe 5-10 secs.

Yes we are Aware of it and are looking into ways of speeding this up. Unfortunately since its not really a hardware issue its something we will have to actually patch which means the absolute soonest you should see improvements would be next EQ2Players Update assuming we can narrow down the performance issue before then. But in short, Yes we are aware and are working on improving this

Gninja's already contacted me for background information and a statement of the problem, which I've PM'ed him with - along with a bunch of other supporting information and background. I was thorough.

To share with everyone else the performance metrics I collected (I added a feature to RM4DF to gather and optionally log these now for the next version):

Clenched Fist (93 members), http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...guildId=1013203 Time to retrieve HTML roster: 5.6122 sec, time to retrieve CSV data feed: 0.1497 sec.

Acolytes of Valor (361 members), http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...vm?guildId=9104 Time to retrieve HTML roster: 252.4670 sec, time to retrieve CSV data feed: 0.3578 sec.

Hidden Shadows (703 members), http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...guildId=3844120 Time to retrieve HTML roster: 213.1658 sec, time to retrieve CSV data feed: 0.8105 sec.

Grenricks Guidance (895 members), http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...?guildId=903106 Time to retrieve HTML roster: 509.8753 sec, time to retrieve CSV data feed: 0.8124 sec.

[Note: in many cases the EQ2Players "Guild Members" stats were off from the actual number of members on the roster, I provided the actual number of members listed.]

Not enough data points to draw and actual curve, but I'll go out on a limb and say the scaling on the HTML page performance has one heck of a steep line!

I know your answer will be along the lines of "as they become necessary" but its just I can't remember when the last one was. Just interested is all.

I believe the last one was in May but we have 3 websites to maintain and we have to give equal lovin. EQ2Players will come back around as soon as the updates for EQL and Vanguard get done.

Thank you, GNinja. That was the most honest answer we've had to date about update frequency and explains a great deal. I can't say that I'm terribly pleased to know that the support staff for a service I'm paying money for is forced to split their attention between 3 sites (to the detriment of what I'm paying for) , but I'm very glad to know why the updates have been so sporadic. Most of us have just been seeking a straight answer to speed of progress on EQ2Players, and you provided it. Thank you.
