AA point cost reduction, general clarification

when they lower the cost of an AA trait from say 3 to 2, what happens if you already bought that at the old, higher price? do you just get that point back after the patch goes live? do you have to respec, put everything back, and you have 1 AA left over?

Hmm, if I remember the only time they have done that they have given a full respec of points.  At least on live.
