View Full Version : Have the shelfs/bookcases been fixed?

I know this problem was in the past but I was wondering if it has been fixed? Some of the shelfs (well most of them) and bookcases were broken and didn't allow anything to be placed on them. Is that still so now?

Sad to say, bookcases still refuse to accept books. This really is something that needs fixing. We get SO MANY books as quest rewards and can't put them in the logical place - bookcases.

you mean you don't just randomly place books on a table in the corner, or toss them on the floor?

I havent had a problem with placing books on bookcases. The ones without book displays on them are the easiest to use. The ones with books (ebony mastercrafted still allow for books to be placed on them but not on top of existing items (not all of them anyway) already on the shelf display.

TIP -

You need to be able to see the surface you are placing the book on. Shift your view slightly downward so you can see the actual shelf space you are placing the book on. Just slightly so you can level the books and place them nicely next to the existing ones.

For higher shelves on the bookcases or shelves on the wall - get a box or boxes to stack up so you can see the shelf.

You shouldnt have any problems using this/these methods. If you come across a bookcase/shelf that still wont accept books, please let me know and I will try to help ya with it if possible.

In the long run - I wish bookcases were slotted which would make them easier to manage, but currently they arent so we do what we have to....

A change is coming that will make it much easier to place objects exactly where you want them, without stacking up tables and removing them. This should allow you to put books anywhere you want, even if the bookcase doesn't specifically support placing an object on the shelf.

Is this only going to apply to books? Any indication as to when this change is coming out?

Last I looked the Briarwood (which was about a week ago) and similar did not. It's the one that looks like a strange red canoe set on end. I know maple bookcases and most of the shelves that hang on the wall accept objects, tho I don't have all of the different kinds. We usually use a wall mount shelf at the level of the bookcase shelf to put books "into" our Briarwood ones.

A couple of the wall shelves dont accept items on them at all and the Briarwood bookcase is the same. Changing your character viewpoint by standing on a chair or crouching on the floor only partially works, there are book cases and shelves (I have 2 in my house both have 2 shelves) that refuse to accept an item on particular spots on a shelf no matter what point of view you have. There was/is I believe a post on the forum somewhere with the broken bookcases and shelves listed on it.

All in all it's probably pointless to worry about which shelves wont take books or items with this change that will be going in. Only thing is, using the method of placing a wall shelf and putting items on it then moving the shelf and placing a bugged bookcase or bugged wall shelf in it's place results in not being able to click on the items because the design of some of the bookcases and wall shelves seem to be more like a solid item rather than something with spaces in them like other shelves or cases; so I can't imagine that placing them in the new method on these shelves or cases will fix that issue, because once you've effectively placed it within the geometry of the bugged shelf or case it becomes non-clickable.

It just looks as if the books are in the shelf... just an effect. However if you fool around with the bookcase you can set it just behind the front edge of the books then you can click on them.
