View Full Version : Roleplaying features for RoK
Idea for this post is inspired by this thread : http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=368749 I have always supported ideas like the thread above suggested, anything that would give RPers more to do is good. Raiders/Soloers/Casual players get lots of attention. Its time RPers spoke up and once more put forth there ideas. I have always liked the idea of a chess game or Poker(betting based) card game myself. I think pool is a bit to modern for my tastes, but anything is better than nothing. Something needs to be done as lotro is leaving eq2 behind in RP tools, such as the music system there which is awesome. With that in mind I thought it would be interesting to pool the Ideas of the roleplay community. What new RP features would you like to see in RoK? Mini Game(s) - Such as: Betting based Card game. Chess. Pool/billiards. ..... Mini games in my opinion should be based in Taverns or Homes and be interactable objects. Interactable objects. Chairs - Allow us to sit down. ( Chairs should scale to creature size as mounts do) Beds - allow us to lie down. Books - a Reading animation when reading a book. Water pools - allow us to immerse ourselves and relax in our pools. New House item - Wardrobe ( allows storage of Clothing with same access as house vault) ....... Social Features Emotes for : play musical instrument, Drinking , Eating, smoking (may not be possible due to age rating of game) More Guild Heraldry options : Shield isignia, Pennents for Lances, Standards. Mount customisation : Barding styles, Guild heraldy on Cloth coverings etc. More social clothing: Combat emotes, Customisable emote system : Allow us to create new emotes from the one already available. Racial dance emotes more fun spells. Music system - This would be awesome to see in eq2 in my opinion, allow bards to compose music! I will add other ideas onto the list as they arrive. ((Edited, added a load of ideas from the posts below.. excellent work, keep them coming))

I like these ideas - and it would certainly be nice to see a few added for flavor. In-game games would be awesome, even for just passing the time out of boredom and you're not into dueling. And I do find it frustrating that laying down in a bed seems to be only allowed by classes that can FD - it's certainly not for a lack of having the animatio to do it.

How about emote commands that would trigger the combat animations (the ones already in the game) without being in combat? A lot of roleplayers prefer to roleplay duels instead of doing a /duel, and it seems like it would be easy to add this into the game because all of the animations are already in place.

I'd personnally like a /lie or /rest emote, or something... so you can actually lie down on beds, or even use it to pretend you're dead/unconscious/incapacitated.

Also, the ability to sink into the water of the pool house objects >.< I look silly sitting on top of the water like I was Jesus or something...

A /drink emote that shows the same animation as the one you get when you drink from Brell's Brew kegs

Hooded cloaks would be nice, too.

The ability to hold a lance with a flag on it when mounted - but that's probably wishful thinking

The ability to show guild heraldy on shields and armor (each should be checkable options so no one HAS to have any)

I'll think about more once I have more caffeing in my veins...

I haven't played LOTRO, but a few friends who do were remarking on how neat it was that pipe smoking was something their charcacters could do. Tobacco needed to be harvested, and it wasn't used for anything but smoking, yet (at the time) there seemed to be a huge market for it. It's those little bits of flavor that add countless layers to a game, and make it more enjoyable to so many, not just roleplayers, imo.

Mini-games in taverns would be fantastic. Something simple would suffice, but give us something to do in all these bars, and houses, and player-run facilities across Norrath.

Reading emotes, drinking emotes, chairs we can sit in, beds we can lay in, smoking emotes, et c. ad nauseam. guys, they've said a LOOOOOOOOOOONG LONG TIME AGO that they can't put chairs that we can sit in, simply because it's too much trouble to fit all races' sizes into all sized chairs. You really want an ogre to sit into a gnomish rocking chair?

It is not an unknown concept. They've had three years to figure out something. There are chairs of all different sizes, why don't they just make it so an ogre can't sit in a gnome chair? Or start making chairs that are more acceptable for all races? Or *something*. And honestly...not even gnomes would be able to fit in gnome chairs. Have you seen how tiny they are? Not even *one* gnome buttock would fit in those things, let alone their whole rear.

What would I like to see? Small things... ~More variety of social clothing. (As it is, most people wear robes, because it's one of the only garmants that looks... nice). ~Taverns that are designed with player get-togethers in mind. So many of them are so small, and cluttered with stuff/NPC's to the point that you can't really hold a large get together inside of them. ~More viable social emotes. In EverQuest, you could customize your own socials and add animations already existing in the game by entering the desired animation and then adding a custom social after it. As far as the chairs and beds are concerned... I know that role-players have been screaming for it for a long, long time... but it is pretty clear that we're not going to get it, and understandably so. I'd prefer the Devs keep their focus where it is, designing cool content and additions that are needed for the game, than have to go back and completely re-design entire systems (such as the variety of chairs and benches to be more universal, which would also, in turn, eliminate a lot of variety of furniture items). It would take a ton of energy, a complete overhaul of several parts of the game (from models to furniture to animation) to get it done, and I think that energy could be put in other places to make bring smaller, better things to the Role-play community.

I think that with the new skeletons they could prolly be able to make people sit in chairs without too much work to it actually.you'd just not be allowed to sit in chairs of the wrong size. or have a silly sitting pose in them. I'd love seeing an ogre in a gnome char tbh. would be kindof hilarious.

I really wish they added some Roleplay stuff such as suggested. Mini-games, player music system, and sitting in chairs. They always give the same reason for not adding sitting in chairs because of different race sizes and talk about how the chair would have to change size. But I could never understand that because why don't they just do it like WoW has it and how real life is? If a little Gnome sits on a big chair, his legs will be hanging. It looks cute and it's realistic. If a tall class sits in a small chair it will be just like WoW where the chars knees are higher up just like in real life.

Hey great idea !!! It's a huge game but the only thing you can do is: KILL NPCs or go CRAFTING Playing card games or chess (and more) with friends would be so much fun !!! But there is one point in your thread wich is INSANE !!! Everquest2 char design is very complex and nice, you can create a unique char. BUT (!!!) it is impossible to allow EQ2 chars to sit in Chairs ! Why ? simpel answer: if they would implent it this would take more time than creating a new little expansion. And they don't have to figure it out - they KNOW how to do it but it would take MONTHS to do this ! Every ingame charakter has bones like we all have in reallife. And when an ingame char would sit down in a chair they have to configure these bones so that it fits into that chair. They have to create a "sit down in a chair" animation. That's no big deal BUT the problem starts with the SIZE of the char. You can customize your char-size with a slider in the char-creating-screen. So finally if they would allow chars of different size to sit down in a chair they have to edit the bones of every size of a char. Can you imagine how long this would take ? You create a sit down in a chair animation for a normal troll and after that you must create a new one for the troll wich is 1 pixel higher/taller etc ... insane ! so thats the reason why we will NEVER have a sit-down-animation in everquest 2 and WHAT WOULD I LIKE TO SEE ? 1. Every Race should have it's own dancing style or more different types of dancing! 2. Bards should write their own songs or you should give them 10-20 fun spells wich will play different songs and give them a lute etc ! 3. every class should become MORE REALLY COOL fun spells ... e.g. a mage can transform someone into a sheep etc. 4. crafters should have the possibility to create funny insane stuff like street-clothes, sunglasses, 1HD laterns/lights, lance with flag etc 5. more mounts ! hey it's a fantasy game and i'm playing a troll ! i dont wanna ride a horse - i wanna ride a COW, CHICKEN or maybe a dragon !

Did you read my post? You don't have to adjust chair sizes. That would look bad if the chair changed sizes. They are acting as if a 6 foot tall man could never be able to sit on a small chair or that a short person couldn't sit on a tall chair. And you don't have to have animations for chair sitting. Just do it like WoW, UO, and LotRO does and just have them appear on the chair after they click it. Kind of like how we lost the horse mounting animation after they changed the horse graphics and now we just appear/hop onto it.

And I know the last one would be a bigger deal, but the first two would be so *easy* to implement! And make a world of difference. I would LOVE to see more non-combat clothing options!! They could give us carpenters a new recipe: "wardrobes" -- which would allow people to store all their clothing and even let visitors to your room try on clothing just like the new dressing room feature.

*dreams*

~Faelian~

First off great ideas coming in everyone. I have updated my initial post with loads of them. I personally don't see why they cannot scale chairs to fit the creature type. Just as they do mounts. Perhaps if we ever get the new models talked of last year it might be possible. This is how the sitting down animation works in Lotro.

Is it so hard to designate certain chairs as "too small" if a race too large tries to sit in them, and therefore won't be allowed to? Certainly all stools and benches could accomodate all races, at the very least.

A toolset where you can run actual quests for your friends. Like you get an instanced dungeon and set it up how you like just for entertainment without exploiting loot etc

Yaggaz wrote:

A toolset where you can run actual quests for your friends. Perhaps you could explain. I don't think its a bad idea, just don't think its the right place for a discussion on this. I could of course be wrong. I do think that there are some great ideas brewing here, if people wish to post comments on the validity or perhaps even attempt to prioritise the list of what you think are the key features you would like to see added.
